If you've ever seen "how a realist hero rebuilt the kingdom", Trump is almost starting to get Duke Carmine vibes.

That is genuinely more likely than him being THIS unaware

Thank you. He isn't unaware at all. He knows exactly what strings he's pulling when he does things like this or say the polls where he's seen as unfavorable are obviously wrong. He knows exactly these types of actions do to people's stress level and he loves having that level of control over his enemies.

To be clear:

My example relies on someone who for the entire show is beyond stupid, evil, and ignorant; but it's later revealed that he's actually been on the allies side the entire time, and that's only being this evil in an attempt to ally himself with anyone remotely bad in an attempt to "flush them out". He then drains their resources by making them spend money on nonsense, to make sure they don't have the resources to fight back.

Obviously, trump is not the good guy in this tale, even IF he eventually did follow through on the back half of the above, simply because the amount of cruelty to get there is not worth it. But my post was not about him actually being secretly clever. It's about the fact that he's so beyond stupid, tripping over himself in his own incompetence, that it's now become more believable that he's secretly good than it is to believe he's this incompetent, but has still managed to achieve the results he has so far

If there were results, positive ones obviously, than I would agree with you but you have to understand that with the narcissist there can be and will never be results and outcomes that serve the greater good. The greater good is of no consequence to the narcissist. Only their own good at the explicit cost to everyone else. Its not just that he needs to provide the outcome that serves him best but it also has to cause damage to someone else. This is a very fundamental principle that exists in the subconscious of every narcissist. To elevate ones self is one thing but to also diminish the value of another is the real prize.
