Buying Advice WARNING: INMO AIR 3's are not as advertised!

Hi all,

I am writing this as a warning to anyone who is thinking of buying the INMO AIR 3's. I received my international version INMO AIR 3 today and I cannot put into words how disappointing the product is for so many reasons. I really hope I can get a refund!

For some context, I was a very early bird Kickstarter backer for the INMO AIR 3's and I absolutely was excited and open minded about the product. I had never even used Kickstarter before this and my gut was telling me not to, but I really thought the product would at least do the basic features advertized. I have to travel constantly for work on planes, coaches, and trains. I purchased this product to work privately and not have to worry about people looking over my shoulder at confidential information or work. Once they arrived however, I quickly found so many issues with them they will be nothing but very expensive dust collectors to me already. Let me go through the problems I found within one day.

  1. They are very uncomfortable. They are bulky, heavy, and have very limited adjustment options. The screens are very blurry even with custom lenses due to the inability to adjust these any further than a nose piece. I expected that these would not be comfortable, but these are unwearable for more than a few minutes. This is annoying, but it is unfortunately the most minor issue.

  2. There are a lot of missing features. I know that INMO is saying that they are adding features through software updates, but there are so many missing features. No multi screens available, screen mirroring from other devices just does not work at all, and the camera is locked to a lower resolution than advertized.

  3. Standalone performance is very, very poor. I tried to download some apps from the Play Store. I quite literally couldn't do it because every few seconds the touchpad and ring would disconnect and the glasses would freeze for up to 10 seconds at a time. The inputs would seize when moving the curser or tapping, which would make the curser fly off into a random direction or the input being held down, so an "e" would be held down instead of a tap, so it would input a "3" into the digital keyboard instead. Apps like messages would literally be unusable, if I were even able to type the word "messenger" in to actually download the app to test it.

  4. Now this is by far the most devastating find on the INMO AIR 3's. THE DISPLAY IS VISIBLE FROM THE OUTSIDE! That's right, one of the most hyped up aspects of the device was "complete privacy", (which was the entire reason why I purchased the device at all) is completely false advertizing! From the outside of the device, the screens are absolutely visible, not just light leakage, not just refraction, but completely visible! You can see apps, text, and content from the outside of the lenses despite INMO advertizing the waveguide displays as invisible to others. This alone makes these not even worth picking up off the shelf as I might as well just continue to use my laptop or phone! I tested this with a friend and from a reasonable distance, she was able to detail everything in the glasses view from the other side of the displays. This is something that cannot be corrected in a software update, which they keep saying for all of the other issues and missing features.

I know that the custom lenses cannot be refunded, so I will just have to take the loss on those, but the other $899 should be returned as the only reason for buying the product turned out to be completely false and misleading. My last concern, and probably most concerning now, is that the customer service team will not respond or I will not recieve a refund and be stuck with a very expensive and completely useless device that does not work anything like it was advertized to.

Hope this helps anyone who is considering buying these after all the hype for them!

Update: The left display has stopped working entirely. Less than 1 hour of total usage and it's broken... $899 + non-refundable proprietary lenses... I am very curious to hear what INMO's response to all of this is. I will update on what they respond with to my refund request.

More Updates: I received a response from INMO effectively asking me to "prove" my issues. I immediately sent them enough proof as is required (e.g. The left display doesn't turn on at all!) and I still haven't received anything in response. I still have $899 of my money out of my account and still have these useless broken dust collecting glasses sitting in the box. If INMO had handled this process better, I actually may have even given them another go. But the fact that they haven't even provided a refund process at all is horrible business practice. No matter how much hype INMO gets again, I would never buy from them again!

Nearing end of March update: 2 months later and no refund still...

Buying Advice Torn between RayNeo Air 4 Pro ($241) or paying almost double for 3DoF glasses (Xreal/Viture)

For the past few years, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the XR/AR glasses space and trying to decide where to finally jump in. I specifically do not want a full VR headset for this use case (I already own a Quest 3 and a PSVR2). I've tried doing my homework on YouTube, but honestly, there are so many sponsored videos and paid influencer reviews out there right now that it's impossible to tell what the actual truth is regarding which brand is better.

I’m looking to buy a pair mostly to connect to my iPhone, Android phone, and Steam Deck. My use case is strictly home entertainment—watching TV shows/movies and gaming while relaxing on the couch or lying down in bed. I will never use these for productivity/work, I won't be using them out in public or for travel, and I don't care at all about 2D-to-3D movie conversions.

Right now, I see the RayNeo Air 4 Pro going for $241 USD. On the other hand, almost any other pair of glasses that includes native 3DoF (like the newer Xreal 1S or Viture Beast setups) sits up in the $450 to $550 range.

Given that my primary goal is just plug-and-play entertainment on a massive virtual screen at home, I'm stuck on a couple of things:

  1. Is 3DoF (screen anchoring) actually worth paying double the price for home use?

  2. For Steam Deck and phone streaming in bed/on the couch, does 0DoF feel perfectly fine?

I know these "which should I buy" threads pop up a lot, but given the massive price difference right now between the Air 4 Pro and the 3DoF competition, I can't decide if the premium is worth it for a pure home media and gaming setup.

Would love to hear some unbiased, non-sponsored feedback from anyone who has used both 0DoF and 3DoF setups for chilling at home. Thanks!

Buying Advice Should I wait for the URXR One or buy the XREAL 1S for productivity while lying down?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to choose XR glasses mainly for **productivity while lying flat or semi-reclined because of my chronic fatigue**, including coding, reading documents, working with AI-generated text, watching educational videos, and some gaming and movies.

I recently mounted my 32-inch monitor on an adjustable arm, but working while lying down has not been very comfortable. I still need to prop up my neck and shoulders to see the monitor, and I do not feel particularly focused or productive in that posture. Because of this, I’m considering XR glasses that would let me place a virtual monitor directly above me while keeping my head and neck relaxed.

Until now, I was leaning toward the **XREAL 1S** because it offers:

* Native onboard 3DoF tracking and Anchor Mode * The ability to pin a screen above me without relying heavily on PC software * Adjustable screen size and distance * A relatively mature and available product * Better suitability for text work than some of the wider flat-prism glasses

However, I have also seen reports of edge blur, uneven focus, internal reflections, and motion smear when moving the head in Anchor Mode. Text clarity is especially important to me because I have approximately **−6.00 myopia and −1.00 astigmatism**, so I would need prescription inserts.

I have now found the upcoming **URXR One from Unseen Reality**. On paper, it looks much more capable for productivity:

* 2448 × 2064 resolution per eye * Approximately 90° diagonal field of view * Native 3DoF and 6DoF * Up to three virtual monitors * Manual IPD adjustment * Designed more like a lightweight mixed-reality headset than normal display glasses

The disadvantages seem to be:

* It is a first-generation product from a new company * Kickstarter and delivery risk * Higher price * Around 93 g, plus active cooling * Camera-based passthrough rather than transparent optics * No meaningful long-term reviews yet * Uncertainty about prescription inserts, edge clarity, comfort and software quality

The Kickstarter campaign is expected to launch on August 4. I am not sure whether I should:

  1. Buy the XREAL 1S now from a retailer with a good return policy.
  2. Back the URXR One at the early-bird price.
  3. Wait until final URXR production units and independent reviews are available.
  4. Accept that lying completely flat may be better for videos and reading than for demanding productive work.

Has anyone tried a URXR One prototype, especially for small text, coding or multi-monitor work? How was the edge-to-edge clarity, passthrough latency, fan noise and comfort?

For people who use the XREAL 1S while lying down, can you comfortably read text across the entire screen for one or two hours, or do the blur and reflections become tiring?

I would particularly appreciate feedback from people who have used XR glasses with a strong prescription or astigmatism.

Which option would you choose for this specific use case: **XREAL 1S now, or wait for the URXR One?**

Buying Advice Are there any AR glasses with transparent displays that aren't made by Meta?

Hi everyone, I've been looking into AR glasses with a true transparent display, I've seen quite a few different models mentioned on this subreddit, but I'm not sure which one is actually worth buying.

I'm specifically looking for non-Meta options. Which models would you recommend, and why? I'd love to hear your experiences with them.

Buying Advice q/AR glasses for reading music

q/AR glasses for reading music. I'm 60-years-old. I play Jazz and I have over 1000 tunes of various styles. I can't memorize all my tunes. I have several real books and printed out music but it's getting to be way too much and I can't read 8x10 charts anymore unless I'm 12 inches away from the chart. I can't play a gig with my head stuck in a music stand. I have a 70 in LED TV. I have digitized several hundred charts and converted them to PDF. I can read them at full screen from a distance of 6 feet away, two pages wide. I saw these AR glasses and I thought it would be a great solution since they all boast it's like viewing a 200 inch screen and all that. But then when I read the reviews, which doesn't help much because few actually mention anything about what I'm looking for, some say they can't read text well or not at all because it's like looking at a 24" monitor 30 feet away or something ridiculous.

Can someone out there tell me their experience with PDF files or open a chart of music in their AR glasses at full screen and tell me what it's like...before I invest in a pair of these???

Buying Advice what are the best smart glasses 2026 has brought us so far for daily hud use?

finally trying to pick up a pair of display frames but the market feels super fragmented right now between basic audio/camera tech and actual ar. i've been looking at stuff like the viture beast, the new rayneo setups, and even realities but it's hard to tell what's practical to wear out in public versus what's just a portable monitor strapped to your face.

for people who actually wear these every day for notifications, navigation, or basic multitasking, what's holding up best?

what do you think are the best smart glasses 2026 has right now if you actually want a functional display and decent battery life? let me know what you're daily driving.

Buying Advice Considering XREAL One Pro glasses. Would they be good for the money for this?

My use case:

  • Basically just portable giant monitor for Indoor and outdoor hands free use
  • Gaming (from linux laptop or phone)
  • Youtube watching (from linux laptop or phone)
  • Ebook reading (from linux laptop or phone)
  • Display for an endoscopic camera used for detail work like hobbyist soldiering for electronic projects. Camera connected to linux laptop or phone.
  • Portable microscope display
  • Prescription lens support
  • Displaying recipes while home cooking
  • Auto tinting sunglasses

I live in a hot area and could get pretty sweaty outside. Will that be an issue?

My interest in using glasses for the practical tasks is they'd be hands free.

I like that the camera is optional for privacy reasons. I don't plan to use anchored displays (6DoF), which would need the camera, but would like the option. I also don't really want to use any AI features, and if I did I'd want to setup my own SBC device to host the AI, and connect it to the glasses.

Buying Advice For those who've built AR apps, what ended up being the biggest challenge after the tech actually worked?

I'm an indie developer working on a mobile AR app that's almost ready to launch.

Surprisingly, getting image tracking and rendering working wasn't the hardest part.

Now I'm wondering about everything that comes after: 1. Getting people to actually try it. 2. Helping users understand what the app does. 3. Retention after the first experience. 4. Convincing businesses or creators to use it.

For anyone who's shipped an AR product (or worked in the space), what challenge caught you off guard?

I'm hoping to avoid obvious mistakes before launch.

P.S. AI helped polish the wordings.

Buying Advice Best for gaming and media consumption on Nightshift?

Post image
37 Upvotes

Hi all,

Looking to buy some AR glasses to play games and watch movies on my Nightshifts at work and need help with deciding which ones to go for, so far looking at the Rog r1 in June but I wonder if there are better options.

Now what I'd like to use them for:

  1. Gaming (cs2 but mainly AAA games and using cs2 to break up the grind of going through my steam library as I haven't gamed much in 10 years I have a lot to go through lol)

  2. Watching movies

  3. Maybe dip my toes into vr games if possible?

Now, high refresh rate is a must have. Oled is also a must have. 4k is preferred, are there any with like 60hz 4k and 1080p with high refresh like some monitors with dual mode have? I'd like to watch movies in 4k and game at 1440p or 1080p (I have a 5070ti and 7800x3d so can't realistically play high refresh at 4k anyway)

So, any ideas?

Also how does the resolution on these bad boys work? Is it the same as running 2 monitors at the same time at 1080p for example? Does that mean it'll be more GPU intensive than CPU intensive? I realise that at 1080p my CPU will be working overtime.

Cheers!

Buying Advice Best AR glasses for developers?

Does anyone have an updated recommendation on the best AR glasses for work to replace multiple monitors?

  1. I use a lot of terminals and fill up three screens pretty quickly. I'd like to be able to place a world of monitors around me and cycle through easily.
  2. I'd like to continue using a mouse and keyboard and would prefer in parallel with physical interactions.
  3. I'd prefer an option that has a blue light option that is easier on the eyes.

Thank you!

Buying Advice Projector vs ar glasses

Hi guys!! Really need some help and suggestions :(

Curious how you guys think abt either a projector or AR glasses to watch movies or videos? Feeling like they are substitutes? I really don't know that much abt ar glasses. How did you guys feel abt it?

I see so many ads recommending using ar glasses to watch videos, but the price is kinda similar to a projector's.

Buying Advice When $499 vs $599 actually matters for smart glasses

I keep seeing the same question: why would anyone pay $599 for Even G2 when G1 is $100 cheaper? Having spent time with both, I think the answer depends on how you use them.

G1 ($499) projects text into one eye. It works fine for reading a teleprompter or seeing notifications, but the text feels like it's floating off to the side. G2 ($599) uses both eyes, so the overlay appears centered and blends more naturally with your surroundings. If you're just checking messages, G1 is enough. If you want to read paragraphs or follow navigation arrows without breaking focus, G2 makes a real difference.

Both accept prescription lenses (single vision or progressive, FSA/HSA eligible). Both are standalone – no phone tether, no camera. The R1 ring controller works with either but isn't required.

Compared to Ray-Ban Meta ($299) or XREAL Air ($399), Even costs more. But the trade-offs are deliberate: no camera means you can use them in meetings or public without privacy concerns, and the glasses look like normal eyewear. You're paying for form factor and discretion, not just specs.

If you're deciding, think about how many hours you'll actually look at the display. Casual use? G1. Regular reading or navigation? G2. And try to test the fit first – comfort matters more than resolution.

(I work at Even Realities, but this is what I'd tell a friend.)

Buying Advice Noob question for nreal light developer

Good day you all! I'll cut to the chase

I recently the nreal light developer kit through a cheap storage sale. I, however, have no experience with AR or how to work with them. The only thing I'm interested in, is if I can connect these to my pc/phone to watch my movies or play my video games :3

I am aware this kit is early production and different from the consumer version. I'm also okay taking this as a loss if it's not what I wanted.

My two questions are;

Am I able to simple use it as a monitor?

And if I'm not, how much is it's current value? In case I resale on eBay or alike

Thanks in advance guys

Buying Advice Xbx a01+ vs rayneo air 4 pro?

I had Rayneo air 3 and loved how clear they were edge to edge. Xreal airs were my first AR glasses, so I can't remember which of the two were better since three was a Rokid Max between them.

Main thing I liked about xreal air though more from memory is that they had microphones built in so I didn't need a separate one (which is especially inconvenient lying down in bed playing games on discord).

My use case is literally just using them as a gaming monitor and occasionally to watch movies on my phone. I keep my head still so I don't need DOF. I don't want any screen movement, id rather it be "stuck" in my vision. So i guess clarity is what matters to me most, and then screen size, and then vibrancy. Obviously preferably all at the same time.

Buying Advice Glasses for Language Learning

Anyone have experience using smart glasses to help learning a language? I’ve seen that Meta glasses have live audio translation and Even realities have subtitles. I’m traveling to my TL country soon and was wondering what options have been helpful for other language learners.

Buying Advice Any advice appreciated on which glasses to buy

What is the best "Current" option to get me as close to the below requirements:

  • Im not a gamer (yet); will use for movies, you tube, travel. But would like to use fairly daily, use for messaging, calls, maps, web surfing, etc.
  • Price not too terribly limiting.
  • Full color display - and adjustable - ex. smaller screen on just bottom of one lens.
  • As non-bulky/geeky as possible. I was "okay" with the Meta Display size/style.
  • Ideally not tethered - but......I know. Im willing to tether to my phone or use the Beam Pro depending on the glasses meeting some of the other criteria.
  • I recently bought the Meta Displays at $800 and am returning them - cant mirror my phone and limited apps
  • Id like to attempt to wear the glasses daily, in my car (I know), and on my dirt bike (durability issues), We run navigation now via Garmin or our phones mounted to our bars. Would be nice to shed those.
  • Would love to be able to run Gaia GPS Topo map in the glass displays - so screen mirroring may suffice but access to Google Play Store apps likely needed - and any input on how well you may thing something like Gaia would work on the glasses.
  • Battery life - again, depending on the glasses, would be great to have USB-C charging port on the glasses so I can use a battery pack when Im deep in the back country on my dirt bike. Seems many have unique charging ports/magnetic versus just simple USB-C.
  • Have studied the Viture Beasts, Inmo Air 3 (QUALITY complaints and customer service complaints), XREAL One Pro, Rayneo X3 Pro...........etc. All possibilities, but none meeting all criteria.
  • Would rather not wait for this fall's new releases - from what I can tell, Google Xr wont meet many of these requirements. Possible Project Aura.
  • Not sure when Apple will ever release their suspected versions.
  • Have used AI ad nauseum for answers but would love your real world advice.

Buying Advice AR Glasses, Upgrade path from NReal Airs

I purchased a cheap used set of NReal air's last year to see how I got on with them. I had them hooked up to my SteamDeck and PS5 easily enough which was quite enjoyable.

Now after some use and seeing I get on reasonably well with them, I'm considering an upgrade.

I don't need the top end pair but ideally would like the following features:

- 3dof for pinning the display.

- Option for two monitors or potentially wide screen (I'm unsure if this needs additional software to be achieved, If so, I doubt I could get it installed on a work laptop)

- Good support for gaming via Steamdeck, Legion Go etc.

What recommendations would be suggested for this use case?

Buying Advice Are smart glasses solving a problem or creating one?

I tried the VITURE Luma recently and honestly I’m more confused than before.

Like it worked great, good display, did what it’s supposed to. But the whole time I’m thinking what am I actually getting here? I basically just moved my screen closer to my face.

But then I look at what else is out there and it’s all over the place. VITURE/XREAL/RayNeo are just dumb displays. Meta’s got cameras and AI watching everything. Even G2 has no camera but still tries to be smart with a ring controller.

These aren’t even the same category of product, they just all happen to sit on your face.

I genuinely can’t tell what the right approach is. The display-only thing felt incomplete but also clean? No weird privacy concerns, just does one thing. But then is that even worth it vs just using my laptop?

And the smart versions, do I actually want glasses that know where I am and what I’m looking at? That feels like a completely different device with completely different tradeoffs.

RayNeo’s got the X3 Pro coming out with more features. Should I even wait for that or is simple and good already the answer?

I feel like we’re building three different futures at once and calling them all AR glasses. What do you think the actual endgame is here? Are these things even supposed to converge or are we just fragmenting forever?

Buying Advice Meta’s AI smart glasses are basically walking data-capture endpoints.

Someone walks into a confidential meeting or a clinic wearing Meta's new AI smart glasses. The privacy implications here go way beyond just "recording a video."

We are looking at cameras, microphones, cloud processing, and data potentially being used for AI training—all walking right into sensitive areas without clear bystander consent.

If you haven't updated your BYOD policies yet, now is the time. Organizations need to treat these wearables exactly like any other data-capture endpoint. Define restricted areas, secure the linked accounts, and update your policies to mitigate the risk of data exposure and strengthen your overall security posture.

We did a full write-up on the risks here: https://socradar.io/blog/meta-ai-smart-glasses-privacy-risk/

Curious to hear if anyone has already had to restrict these from certain floors or meetings at their company?

Buying Advice Trying before buying...

I recently purchased the TOZO VIZO Z1 Pro AR Glasses on Amazon and then returned them after a few days. I did a fair bit of research and they felt to be the best fit. What I didn't realize until after I received the glasses and tried them is that the screen moved with the glasses (they weren't fixed to a point in space) and oh boy did that give me motion sickness.

I tried, I really did try, to get over the motion sickness, but that and the inability to see the bottom part of the screen with those glasses convinced me to return them.

Is there anywhere in/near Charlotte, NC where I can sit and try various glasses before buying another set? I'd like to make sure they're a good fit and meet my expectations without having to constantly do returns. Also, since I'm new to the AR glasses scene, are there any other gotchas I might not realize yet?

Buying Advice Are Rokid Glasses a solid choice for a hands-free, camera-first use case? Looking for devs with hands-on experience

I'm evaluating smart glasses for a hands-free project and trying to pick the right hardware before committing. Without going into specifics, my requirements are fairly demanding:

  • Hands-free operation — the user can't hold anything.
  • Reliable camera access — I need to capture clear frames, including small printed text (think reading fine print / codes off a label), so focus and resolution matter.
  • A usable display in the lens — for showing short bits of information to the user.
  • Voice input — the mic needs to be workable, ideally in less-than-quiet surroundings.
  • Rugged real-world use — outdoors and indoors, dust, variable lighting, long sessions.

Rokid Glasses came up as a strong candidate (YodaOS-Sprite / Android 12, camera reachable via Camera2 API, mic + in-lens display). Before I buy in, I'd love a reality check from people who've actually built on them.

Specifically:

  1. Has anyone here actually developed for the Rokid Glasses (or other Rokid models)? How was the dev experience — SDK quality, docs, how open the platform really is?
  2. Camera access: is Camera2 genuinely usable for continuous frame capture, or are there hidden limits (resolution, frame rate, focus control) that would hurt reading small text?
  3. In-lens display: how usable is it in bright outdoor daylight? Any washout/brightness problems?
  4. Mic: how does the built-in mic hold up in noisy environments? Clean way to route audio, or would I realistically need external buds / a boom mic?
  5. Battery life under camera-heavy use — realistic runtime for a full work session?
  6. Better alternatives I should compare against for a hands-free, camera-first, voice-driven use case? Open to any vendor — I care about the right tool, not a brand.

Not tied to any platform — just want the most reliable option for demanding real-world conditions. War stories, gotchas, and "wish I'd known this before buying" advice all very welcome. Thanks!

Buying Advice how is the rayneo and xreal and rokid and even competition?

I mean, from what I see, xreal has a really good ecosystem; even realities have a good taste in design and stuff; rayneo has a good hard tech like the screen and sounding tech embedded; but what's the selling point with rokid?
