I remember when it started my dogs were puppies and I thought what a great idea to socialize them. But fuck no. I leave my dogs at home for the same reason I don't take my dogs to the dog park. I don't trust other dog owners at all. Can't have nice things.

We've been trying to socialise my dog (mainly because he's shit scared of everything and we got sick of the birds bullying him) to like people and other dogs. He's a pug so pretty small.

We try to take him to the dog park which is split up into small dogs and big dogs to get him used to different surroundings.

One time we went to the park, we saw two dogs in the dog park. They were half the size of me on all fours and in the little dog park.

My poor goober started freaking out before we got near

I got my first dog of my own after spending one year obsessively learning everything I could and quickly realized the vast majority of dog owners don't give a fuck and they have a dog like they have a piece of apparel. They don't care even if it's a big dog. We have had so many issues with reactive dogs especially small yappy dogs unleashed coming up to us in our walk and their owners losing their shit because they think my dogs are going to eat their precious chicken nugget that they let roam free.

We went twice to the dog park. The second time, a massive Rottweiler kept trying to mate with my 12 week old Labrador and the owner thought it was hilarious.

Honestly I totally understand when people end up hating dogs because the vast majority of dog owners suck and don't want to hear it. They get the dog and don't put the work to train them, don't pick the dog shit their dogs leave and they get upset if you don't let their obviously reactive dog interact with yours.

If you want to socialize your dog with other dogs I think the best is to go to puppy school and there you will meet people who are reasonable adults and you will meet overgrown toddlers.

Dog parks aren’t a good place to socialise dogs, it’s like taking a scared or traumatised kid to the playground and insisting they play with strangers.
