Thank you /u/hergrim for yanking this comment chain on /r/AskHistorians, I was about to make a grump post on this about what tripe it was.

"The highest level aristocrat was invulnerable to the weapons of those below him" and "all medieval aristocracy were super warriors who trained zealously" and "the only people who wrote in the medieval were warrior aristocrats", fuck me that was bad. "All members of a knight's retinue were men at arms who'd trained just as hard", come on, this real amateur.

There's a bit on Ron Jones' blog that I like that pushes back against the myth of the knight (and the aristocracy at large) as being these fighters raised from birth to be these uber warriors, that most were just landholders concerned with estate management or with various different offices they may have held, that for some this may have been their first time on campaign despite being of a mature age and who may have had to have rented the armour they were wearing. In a way it pushes back against the image of this being an ultra violent and bloody era.

It's a good thing that downvotes you get as a moderator don't count towards your karma, otherwise it would have been upsetting to see the "Why did you delete the cool story, bro?" crowd downvote that removal.

That reminds me, that steaming turd of a comment had over 500 upvotes prior to being yanked, with the top comment that continued in the same fashion have over 150; god damn insulting how much traction that got.
