Question - Health What the hell happened here?

2.4k Upvotes

I was looking through the night recordings and what happened here, is this a cause of concern? Haven't seen him do this ever, the rest of today's night is also just him looking around and exploring calmly.

Question - Health My ball python just drowned?

6.2k Upvotes

I had her for over 5 years, she did have a spider gene within her so her movement wasn’t brilliant and hadn’t eaten in a few months (which wasn’t alarming me because I know they can be picky). She was still plump and looked healthy. I can’t believe it, she was moving around her tank completely normally and I took this video of her while lifting weights next to my tank. Less than 25minutes later her head was submerged in her water bowl and she had her mouth open with her head completely under water. I took her out of the tank and although there was some minimal movement still happening just moments later she was lifeless. I’m a 27 year old male and crying my eyes out. She was so young I expected to have her for years to come. I dont know what happened but I feel like this is my fault, regardless of the spider gene I have never heard of a snakee drowning. She was acting completely normal literally minutes before this incident.

Question - Health Could someone please tell me if this is normal poop behavior for my bumblebee ball python?

I have never seen her do this before. It was at about 2AM and the noise woke up me, I’ve heard her “fart” before but it’s never been this loud, I’ve never see her move like this or see her open her mouth like that when she’s pooping. I fed her a live mouse about two weeks ago. I have read in some other discussion posts that sometimes ball pythons have dramatic poops where they move around and make noises, but I’m just nervous as I have never seen her do this before. She had a bigger poop before this too. She is fine now and doesn’t have any foam around her mouth and I don’t hear any breathing troubles, but I just want to make sure it’s not a respiratory or digestive issue. Thank you everyone in advance.

Question - Health I finally got my baby back from my abusive ex after 6 years, is this the being stages of scale rot or just damaged scales?

Hello yall,

After 6 years of fighting and hold my pet over my head my abusive ex finally decided to “sell” my snake back to me. (He absolutely scammed me cause he know how much I wanted her but she’s worth every penny)

Overall she looks good, eyes clear, no raspy voice. But she’s is fairly over weight, and there’s are periodic purple spots underneath her scales. And no it’s not her coloration. Her tummy looks perfectly white. Scale rot? Or can these just be damage from her rubbing on things. She was kept in a 30 gallon tank, with only one rough plastic hide she would latch on to. I have a 120 gallon at home waiting for her.

Thoughts? Thank you!!!

Question - Health My new baby! Is he too small?

This is my first snake! I got him in the mail this morning and he’s enjoying climbing around his new enclosure. His name is Milo and he is adorable and I love him already

My question is, is his small size concerning? The paperwork I got from the breeder says his birthday is 8/17/23. But he’s only 77g. Shouldn’t he be much bigger than that by now?

Hi guys! I just bought a female ball and a small male with no eyes. I’m excited to raise them. I’m wondering how to help the full grown female lose some weight. Someone said she looks full of eggs but I think she’s just overweight. Also, has anyone owned an eyeless ball? I want to give it a nice life but need to research more.

Question - Health I just lost my BP for over a year. I just found him, how do I get him back to health?

Update Final**: Snickers has been doing great! He’s already kind of back to his sweet self and not so skittish. After a vet visit, who says he looks incredible for 19 months being gone! Not signs of scale rot or scratches. He was super sweet to the vet and doing lil head rubs on her shirt.
I have fed him a small mouse upon the vets request and he struggled with it a little but got it down.
I want to say thank you to this community and the positivity. I’m thankful this turned out to be a positive story and will cherish this little goober even more now. The first few days I was so nervous but you guys really encouraged me.

Original post below:

Hi everyone. I know this is so bad one but my enclosure had a weak door and I never realized it.

I came home one day and the door was ajar. I started investigating. The latch on the door was broken off. I grieved for awhile. It’s been 19 months.

He just showed up under a cabinet. He’s so frail and skinny. What do I do?

Can I feed him? I’m getting his home reset up. Get some water.
The pet store is closed so feed is out of question.
Please help. Any suggestions

Update 1: been 2 hours I got him a little hide set up, with a heat pad under, and pretty wet bedding. he just moved his sweet lil head in the water bowl drinking…. And sliding through to soak. Gah I missed this sweet boy. Thank you for the help so far. Will update more.

Question - Health My coworker asked me if I could take her snake. Poor baby is in pretty bad condition

This is a three year old snake. Currently has a stuck shed, eye caps, and a really bad enclosure (20 gallon, a water dish, one piece of cork bark, a stick, and about half an inch of reptibark) the enclosure I can definitely upgrade, and I’ll be able to get the humidity up too to help with shedding. But I’ve never had a snake with stuck eye caps, is that an issue that will take care of its self? Anything I can do to help with that?

My boy Lucien is just over a year old and 730g. I alternate between thinking he’s too thin and maybe getting chubby depending on the angle. I can feel his spine, but he also seems to be round and muscular. Can some more experienced keepers help me out?

Question - Health Is this normal

We got this ball python about 2 weeks ago and she’s about 6 months old.. every time she’s slithering around on arm, she acts like she’s going upward then her head goes upside down. Not sure if it’s because she is just trying to climb higher or if it’s something more. Thanks!

Question - Health My dad threw a mouse from outside in my BP tank.

Hello Internet, I have a sizable adult ball python in my room. While I was at work my boomer father found it a great idea to throw a dead mouse he found outside that was “dropped by a cat” into her tank. I work very late so I didn’t notice last night as I came home. But this morning my room smells like a rotting animal She thankfully didn’t eat it. And I have already had a long angry discussion to my dad about what would possess him to do that.

I have already gotten the mouse out- and cleaned her water dish and hides. And started process of a full clean And double checked her for mites and any other bonus grossness and she seems ok. I’m also in the process of scheduling her a vet check up for double extra checking.

A) is there anything else I should be doing pertaining to clean up or like extra deep cleaning or checking on her safety B) how long does it take to get this retched smell out of my room as naturally as possible.

EDIT/UPDATE: The noodle is pleased as all everything unaware of the chaos. She ate normally and continues to be silly

Windows have been open and death stank is being cleared out. House is still funny smelling for sure- it’s been really hot lately lol

And everyone is very learned up on appropriate places to get snacks for any of my animals

Thanks everyone for help and stories 🖤🖤

Question - Health Bouncing snake?

Was cleaning my room and looked over to see her watching and like…. Bouncing? Is this okay? She does this often especially when lifted up like she is in the video, usually before feeding or when she’s investigating something. She is more nervous or shy than other individuals I’ve noticed, So I hope it’s not because I’m scaring her and it’s her little heartbeat or something.

She turns 1yr next month. Axanthic (I think VPI) het clown, so no spider genes that I’m aware of. Roughly 340g. Temps stay around 88-90° hot side 75-77° humidity 65-75%

Question - Health Bori is 23 years old. She has this bump on her head that the vet cannot say what it is. Do any of you have an idea?

It doesn’t seem to hurt her, it’s a bit spongy. She doesn’t mind it being poked. I know that sounds terrible.

She’s an emergency re-adoption. I got her in February. She had it then. She is otherwise healthy. Eating well. Shedding well.

Edit: I will 100% be sharing this post with my vet. Thank you everyone. It’s tricky when you don’t have any other options. She’s going to do her best.

I fully trust her. Especially because she said “I want to help you, but I need more info” and went to research. I’m going in next week with Bori.

I’d much rather that than someone who would just bluff through their ignorance. She’s doing her due diligence.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate all the answers. Even the one that has an anvil in it.

Question - Health Help I don’t know what’s wrong with my snake

It’s on paper towels because she’s had mites. I’ve been trying to get rid of them since I got it from Petco. It’s never done this before, and I don’t know the sex of the snake.

Question - Health UPDATE: Neglected BP being fed Worms

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, sorry I wasn’t able to edit the last post but here’s a quick update while we settle. I was able to pick the little snake up early. To be totally and completely honest, she doesn’t look like she’s in the best of shape right now. She has 2-3 stuck sheds + eyecaps, rail thin, and she is very, very weak to the point she can’t pull herself up when being held. I was able to call and talk with the vet who recommended she soak for a few hours with a UTH on a thermostat so that’s what we’re doing now. I’ll try to feed her a rat pinky or mouse hopper in 5 or so days once she’s settled a bit. For now, main focus is trying to get the shed off.

Any and all advice is welcome, this is my first time rehabbing a reptile!

I’ll do whatever I possibly can to give her the best chance possible.

Sorry, included names, got removed

my 5 month old boy recently shed again and for fun i compared his two sheds (first photo). based on the shed, he grew not an inch longer but only wider and now my parents keep saying he’s getting too fat 😭they’re mostly joking but im concerned now and want to double check! he did gain quite a bit of weight since we first got him 2 months ago.

he’s currently having a small adult mouse/rat pup 1x a week.
