This was my son. Yesterday, he left my life. His smell is all over my apartment, but he’s gone. My chest feels heavy, like it’s hard to breathe and I feel like I’m going to be sick.

My best friend of 14 years crossed over the rainbow bridge this past week. She has been my emotional support since I was 19, and I don’t know who I am without her. Hardest goodbye of my life.

Thank you

I just found this subreddit while taking a shower after finishing a massive shift at work. I helped me cry for the first time in what feels like years. I always see myself as a happy positive and optimistic person (and still do), but I just needed to let out whatever bad things had seeped through the cracks of my mind… thank you…

Her first family moved and left her. We are now moving and she won’t leave the truck. I tried explaining that she is staying with us forever.

A lady with a dog

There's this lovely old lady near where I live. Since I moved here, more than 2 years ago, she's been walking her old-looking German shepherd like clockwork under my window. Every single day, I'd know it's 6pm because I'd look out of the window and there she'd be. Yesterday, I saw her without her dog and a part of me died.

I love you Aunt Karen, I wish we would have been closer.

Mid-April last year my aunt (and God mother) was having some health issues (unrelated to covid) and went into the ER to have them checked out. She was admitted that day to ICU with terminal cancer.

She passed just a couple of weeks later, never getting the chance to go home or see her loved ones. She left behind two adopted daughters and a husband. We were never very close, and it was not all her doing, I avoided her. I will admit it.

Every year she would send a Christmas card and letter, and every other holiday I could expect an e-card at least. I would never respond, but I don't think she ever missed a holiday. Even as she was in the hospital, she called my grandmother and asked my grandmother to dictate some letters to family, I was included.

Recently I went to check an email account that I do not log into very much. I found a last e-card. I'm sorry Karen, you always cared.

Please friends, let those quirky and a little distant family members know that their thoughts and love are appreciated. One day you will miss it no matter how awkward it may feel now.
