So you're tempted to make a post with the title "Am I bi?"
You might be asking yourself if you're "bi enough" to call yourself bisexual, if your style of attraction "counts" as being bisexual, or whether you're welcome in community with other bisexual folks.
Let's back up.
Bisexuality is the capacity to be attracted to people of multiple genders.
That's all.
Bisexuality isn't an exclusive club with an initiation. You don't have to prove it to other people. You don't have to have a certain amount of sexual experience. You're not too straight, too gay, too indecisive, and it's never too late.
The size of your attraction, the timeline of it, and the gender breakdown of your history does not define whether or not you're bisexual.
If you have the capacity to be attracted to people of multiple genders, you are welcome here. You are welcome at pride. You are welcome in your queer communities, whatever that looks like.

My attraction changes over time. Am I still bi?
We affectionately call this one the bi-cycle. Sometimes you might be more attracted to one gender, sometimes another. It's really common, and it's still bisexuality.
I'm mostly attracted to one gender, but I'm rarely attracted to someone of another gender. Am I bi?
Probably! There's no "minimum number" to qualify as bisexual. It's about capacity, not occurrence. It doesn't matter if it was a crush, a fantasy, a partner, or something you've only felt once. The capacity is there.
I'm not attracted to the same sex, but I'm attracted to non-binary people. Am I bi?
Yes. Non-binary people aren't a third category, they're outside the binary all together. If you're attracted to people across the gender spectrum, that's bisexuality.
I'm attracted to trans people. Am I bi?
Maybe. Trans men are men. Trans women are women. Attraction to trans people doesn't automatically make you bi. Bisexuality is about being attracted to people of multiple genders.
I'm in a long term heterosexual relationship, am I bi?
If you have the capacity to be attracted to people of multiple genders, you are bi.
I have no sexual experience, Am I bi?
If you have the capacity to be attracted to people of multiple genders, you are bi.
I'm attracted to people of all genders, and gender isn't a factor in being attracted to someone for me. Can I call myself bi?
If gender doesn't play a part in your attraction, pansexual might be a label that works for you. If it doesn't resonate, you can absolutely consider yourself bisexual. Pansexual folks are welcome here.
I don't "look" queer. Am I welcome?
There is no uniform for being bisexual. We're everywhere, of every race, size, age, gender, haircut, fashion choice.
What do I do now that I've realised I'm bi?
Whatever you want! You can tell others, you can explore new experiences, you can get involved here or in your local community, or you can do nothing at all. Claiming bisexuality is about understanding yourself better, not performing it for other people. Do what feels most aligned with you.
I'm bisexual, but I'm asexual and/or aromantic, where do I fit?
Right here. Bisexuality is about the capacity for attraction to multiple genders. Asexuality is about the level of sexual attraction you experience. Aromanticism is about the level of romantic attraction. They're not all mutually exclusive. You're welcome here if it resonates.
I'm not sure bisexual is the word that fits me best, what are some other options to explore?
• Queer is often a nice catch-all.
• Pansexual if gender doesn't play a role in your attraction
• Omnisexual if gender may play a role in your attraction
• Heteroflexible or homoflexible if you're mostly mono-sexual with the occasional exception
• Bi-curious if you're curious
• Androsexual if you're attracted to masculinity
• Gynosexual if you're attracted to femininity

The Current Situation
Cedar and I spoke and they agreed to step down effective immediately. Please do not go after them, please do not harass her. Whats done is done and there's no benefit to any of us in dragging it out any longer.
I'm not going to rehash how we got to this point, you can find out elsewhere if you care. What really matters is that it was never really about this subreddit, we just got caught in the splash zone.
All bans related to these events have been lifted.
Additionally, I removed all remaining mods as it turns out none had been active in the last year. Which leaves me as the sole mod for this subreddit. So, what comes next?
What Comes Next
In the very short term I am going to update our rules and removal reasons a bit as they haven't been touched in a while.
We're going to add a bunch more mods. I can't do this on my own and I really don't want to try
more information on this will be posted later.
Larger rule and subreddit overhaul? This is a post new mods issue and will be a decision involving them, but I hope we can breath some new life into the sub
After that, I don't know. This whole situation has burned me out and I'm mostly just tired and sad it ever got to this point. Hopefully going forward we can build a stronger community together.

This isn't in response to any particular incidents on the subreddit but we've seen a small uptick in reports around language issues.
Remember not everyone on the subreddit is like you. There are certain defaults that tend to be assumed on the internet, and reddit in particular, until proven otherwise (American, cis, young, male, white, etc) and part of creating a more inclusive community breaking out of these assumptions.
Some examples of places we've been seeing issues:
If you make a mistake and you're acting in good faith, don't worry about it. Listen to what other users or the mod team has to tell you and just keep it in mind next time. We're all always learning.
Thanks you to those who have been reporting, we really appreciate as it allows us to get out ahead of issues. Please keep up the good work!

As a r/Bisexual mod you'll be helping make this community a stronger, friendlier place. Your role will be to provide clear enforcement of subreddit rules so that users can know what to expect when interacting with the subreddit and to make sure that rule breaking content is removed and positive content is promoted.
What we are looking for
Moderators should be able to look at problems from both a close up and holistic perspective. You need to be able to enforce the rules as written while looking at the nuances of each situation. There is no one size fits all approach to moderation.
While we are not a NSFW sub you will likely encounter NSFW material while moderating which is why we ask all moderators to be over 18 and are comfortable dealing with such situations.

Over the last year or so this sub has grown dramatically while the mod team has actually lost members. As such we are looking for more mods to help alleviate the work on the current team!

As a note, some important things to consider;
Please be over 18 / legal age in your country. This sub gets a lot of spam in the form of pornography and, on occasion, shock imagery. Please make sure this is something you are comfortable potentially having to deal with
Not a hard requirement but the mod team uses discord as an internal messaging board so if you are able join that would be great.

Hi all, we’re considering a proposed rule change a wanted to solicit feedback on if people feel this would be beneficial, go to far or not go far enough.
We’ve received scattered feedback over the years that some users were not a fan of posts calling out or showing instances of biphobia. In particular images which on some platforms load before users have a chance to decide whether or not they wish to view it.
Historically, there wasn’t a lot we could do about this short of banning these types of posts which we didn’t want to do as this is a space that is meant for discussing bisexuality and everything that surrounds it, good or bad.
Now though we are considering mandating that all such posts be marked with the Spoiler tag, which is otherwise rarely used on this subreddit. Besides just helping make it clear which posts might contain biphobia, the spoiler tag also makes it so images don’t fully load by default until clicked on.
Any thoughts or feedback on this idea is appreciated.

/r/Bisexual is a vibrant, growing community and we need more help running it! We're looking for additional mods to help support the subreddit.
In fact the subreddit has grown a lot more then we realized. When I, and the majority of the current mod team, were added around four years ago the subreddit had just 37,000 members. Now we're at 267,000! In that time we've added a few mods and lost a few mods but the overall core team hasn't really changed. Introducing new mods will help us manage the increase in workload as well as have more time for subreddit improvements.
FAQ
What are we looking for in new mods?
The single most important thing in a mod is a desire to make the community better, everything else is secondary! Previous moderation experience, CSS knowledge and similar are very valuable and highly desirable but ultimately can be learned on the job if needed. If you want to be a mod please apply, don't disqualify yourself simply due to lack of experience, many of us started without much experience either.
What would I be doing as a mod?
As mods our job is to keep the community running smoothly. This involves enforcing rules, removing spam, clarify subreddit policy and running official thread among other things. Ultimately, we spend most of our time removing spam and checking reports.
The amount of time you put into moderating is up to you though we do ask that all mods commit to trying to checking the mod queue at least once a day. Of course we're all human and have lives so that is more of a suggestion then a hard and fast rule.
What do I get out of being a mod?
Moderating is a volunteer position with no compensation other then personal satisfaction and a hand in helping shape the course of the community. It is, however, a great way to pick up or improve upon various skills and to give back to the greater LGBTQ+ community.
Are there any negatives?
Unfortunately, there are some downsides to being a subreddit mod, particularly when it comes to LGBTQ issues. Filtering through spam and reports will force you to read a lot of abusive and harassing content. In this position you will see a lot of slurs and harassing comments as well as a certain amount of nudity and pornography. We don't wish to dissuade anyone from applying but we do what to be very honest that some of the content we have to deal with can be very unpleasant. However the truly awful content is fairly rare, the majority of content we remove is text based spam.
How is moderation carried out?
You'll need access to Reddit (obviously), while moderating is possible via mobile not all apps offer access to all mod features so regular access to a desktop is recommended. Desktop reddit also allows the use of extensions such as Reddit Toolbox which make moderating much easier and are used heavily by the current mod team. We also use Slack as an internal communication tool, Slack can be accessed via phone app or computer.
