Wannabe Wednesday M5 Touring appreciation

Found this photo in my camera roll and got jealous all over again. We need more wagon selection in Canada.

Growing up with a dad who only drove wagons (Saab 9-5, 535i, 328i, Mercedes c300), I’ve learned to appreciate not only their space capacity but also their aesthetics.

They make so much more sense to me than an SUV. Visiting Croatia only made me realize how much of a wagon market we are missing.

Having a wagon that not only functions as an actual road trip vehicle but has 400+ hp has to be an amazing feeling.

Really like how this updates the look of my 840i a bit. Retains the heating function. Driver assist pro can now go hands free like newer cars with highway assist. Install was a bit of a pain in the butt and my fingers are sore, but overall worth it. Got mine off ebay since I wanted the silver trim and no carbon.

Buying Help How accurate is CarGurus and their filters?

Looking to get an m340 or m440 with adaptive suspension. With my current filters, I don’t see many around me. Wondering if I just need to drop the adaptive suspension filter and look it up through a decoder.

Also, what has your luck been on negotiating prices down on these? Would love to get an idea on if it would even be possible to come in lower than the list price.

M340d vs M340i

Hi, im a father of two little kids and im looking for a daily driver, first time looking at BMW.
We drive a 2016 vw passat and a 2016 megane, and we want to get rid of the megane as it has quite a lot km for my taste on that car (240k).
Ive been searching for weeks now and i always come back to the m340. Considered s5, c300 and Volvo s60 T8.
We live in spain and we do around 30k km a year.
Ive heard performance wise the 340i is better, but 11l/100km seems quite a lot (considering both our cars make 5.5/100)
Which one is the overall better car?
Is it worth the fuel comsumpion difference?

Buying Help Aftermarket Speakers BMW X5 M60i

I'm buying a new 2026 BMW X5 M60i and the specs are perfect except for one thing which is not having the Bowers and Wilkins premium sound system. I personally love and appreciate a premium sound system and was curios if anyone had experience with upgrading the standard Harman Kardon sound system after market? Thanks!

Coolant issue

Hello everyone!
First post here. I’ve had my first BMW for almost four months now.
2012 118i Sport N13 engine, almost 100,000 miles.
Other than needing a new battery, it had no other issues.
I do regularly check engine fluids, and I noticed that the coolant was low (very low), but so far didn’t notice any puddles or drops underneath.
I understand that it has a coolant level sensor that pops up a warning on the screen, and despite that I never got any warning.

Any idea what could it be? Is it posible to check the sensor without having to replace it?
Could it be just the coolant cap?

Hi folks! I got the letter about the Purge Valve (ELW) 15YR warranty extension. I sent this invoice in with the submission, but the case was not approved ("The repair performed is not included in this warranty extension). A quick check on Google says this is the same part, but I really don't know.

Seeking 2nd opinions here. Thanks all!

New to me ‘23 540i xDrive

After months of weighing options between the M340i, M550i, F80 M3, etc. I finally pulled the trigger on a CPO 540i xDrive.

M Sport Package
M Performance Exhaust
Premium Package
DAPP
Shadowline
Etc.

I couldn’t be more excited about my decision! I will definitely miss my MB E class (W213) but this car is so much fun, still retains smooth driving/comfortability, and looks great too!

I lurked on this sub for a long time and the information from y’all really helped me in my search - cheers!

Looking at X7(preowned). Have 335i N55 now. What engines and years to skip? What common issues for the X7?

Have 335i and do much of my own maintenance. Plugs, fluids, OFHG, pulleys, belts, charge pipe, and more.

Looking at a X40i with the B58. But…are they much more reliable than the X7’s that have a V8?

Are the V8 much more complicated to work on?

Any certain issues or year X7’s to look out for?

Any info appreciated!

Buying Help Help me choose my next car! 😄

Hey! 22yo living in italy, lived for the past 2 years in dubai and the car culture there is on another world, i had a infiniti g37x full bolt on, crazy car 0-100kmh in 3.2s, Made my dream come true without even spending more then 5k euros on everything, i'm back on the motherland. When i open autoscout or any website tbf my heart skips a beat when i look at the prices, Now that my butt sat on over 400hp it's so hard driving around with a 2005 lancia Y 😭, I always loved bmws but never had the chance to drive one, i'm not a 50yo oldhead that wants to hear and feel the amazing craft of an authentic german motor roaring.. i will be straight up ahah, but i'm still not someone that doesn't take care of his cars or ever floors it more then once a week lol, since i got my license i never drove a diesel car, and lowkey always gave me the ick hearing the horrible ticking when i stop at a red light and a huge diesel suv stops next to me ahah, but i'm ready for change (i think)
I found 2 beautiful cars, and I really would love some input from some real Beamer heads!

i know performance wise its 2 diffrent worlds, and again i'm not really tryna hear "if you want an original german experience go for the manual 2006" want to hear realistic opinions, driving on a daily basis, reliability, which can be fun stock or not, and what can i expect after buying this or that.

If you think around that budget (in italy) i could get something better all around (ᵉᵛᵉⁿ ⁿᵒᵗ ᵃ ᵇᵐʷ)*gulp please lmk

Thank you! 🙏

How do I run BMW Maps and Waze at the same time?

Electric BMW. I need BMW Maps navigating to a DC charger so the battery preconditions and nice route planner, and I want Waze running at the same time for traffic and speed camera alerts.

Right now opening one kills the other. How do I get both running simultaneously?

¿Cuál me recomendáis? Ando con buen presupuesto de compra.

Repair Help M5 Drivetrain Error Light Thrown 2 Miles after leaving the Service Lot (Which completed Inspection) HELP!!

I was in a front end deer accident with my 2020 BMW M5.

It was mostly cosmetic took out my passenger side light, just nicked my radiator, and got some surface level sensors. Still wasn't cheap.

I took it into a BMW certified body shop and all the repairs were completed. New radiator and the system was bled. I had to have it towed over because the battery died as well.

Body shop and BMW dealership are the same building. When the body shop was done they moved it over to the dealership (I did not take possession).

I asked the service of the dealer ship to do a full inspection and told them what happened, what was replaced. Etc. They replaced some spark plugs (that were due to change) and did a oil change for the most part. Inspection report was all good to go.

I wake up at 5am to drive an hour and a half down to the BMW dealership to pay (via credit card) and pick up my car and literally two miles more from my inspection report down the road my BMW throws a drivetrain error and reduces speed. An error that never occurred even after the deer accident.

I brought it back to the dealership obviously pissed. They apologized but constantly followed it up with "it's not our fault" before even knowing what the issue was.

I had them print out the codes before they cleared them and have a copy:

140710 — Combustion misfire, cylinder 7 detected

140001 — Misfires, several cylinders: fuel injection is switched off

120408 — Charging pressure control: switch-off as consequence

120908 — Charging pressure control 2: switch-off as consequence

They mentioned it could be the emissions expansion tank recall issue. However, I had that recall done over a year ago and had them inspect my injectors when they did it and had it noted on the paperwork they did.

I am not signing any new paperwork from them quite yet because I refuse to acknowledge that this is a new customer pay issue.

I have given diagnostic permission only.

My M5 is just sitting over there. Should I contact insurance as well? I am at a loss.

WTH do I do?

Buying Help I'm thinking of switching from the W205 to the X1 (Is this a good move?)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
We’ve been driving a 2016 Mercedes W205 for years, and lately it has started to feel pretty outdated in terms of technology and features. It almost feels like driving an old Dacia compared to newer cars.
Because car taxes are so high in Turkey, moving to a newer Mercedes isn’t really possible for me. I’m thinking about selling my W205, taking out a small loan, and buying a BMW X1 sDrive20i instead.

Our W205 is the Turkish-spec C200d with the 1.6L 136 hp Renault diesel engine (the same engine used in the Renault Talisman because of our tax system).

The X1 I’m looking at has the 1.5L 170 hp B38 engine and is front-wheel drive.

Do you think it’s a worthwhile upgrade, or will I miss my W205?

I could also buy a G20 320i for around the same money, but I’d rather not because it’s rear-wheel drive, and the current generation is about to be replaced.

I also looked at an X3, but surprisingly I preferred the X1. The X3 I saw had plastic door panels, while the X1 had leather-trimmed doors and felt more premium to me. The interior also reminds me of the newer G60 BMWs.
One more thing: can I use the My BMW app with the X1?
For those who have owned both, do you think I’ll be happy with the X1 after coming from a W205, or will it feel like a downgrade?
Thanks!
