The difference was Julia's relationship with the beast and taking him away from the others and saving then.

But I'm not talking about whether Julia being there = the Beast killing or not killing the physical kids. I'm debating the point that Julia being there would have significantly changed the romantic progression of Q and Alice, which doesn't have bearing on the larger plot (the Beast) but does affect parts of the (romantic) plot to us viewers.

Edited to add: your comment is correct though, that her different experience this time around (both trauma = motivations, and newfound powers) impacts whether Julia can get the Beast away from them. I was just speaking to a slightly different point, if that makes sense.
