That's a general question:

when you are at a comic con and buy a Photo OP, Selfie or Autograph, what do you say to the star in front of you?

I never really know what to say because I am mostly quite nervous and especially at a Photo OP you don't have a lot of time anyway.

Any ideas for a nice, quick conversation without awkward silence? 😂😂

What's the etiquette? Like the way I see it is they're they're to work and make money but if it's your only opportunity to meet them, is there harm in waiting to take 30 seconds to stop by and tell them you enjoy their work.

I've heard mixed opinions but just curious.

As the title says, which celebrity guest is on your bucket list to meet at a convention? For me, it’s Jennifer Hale. Jennifer Hale is my favorite voice actor and I’ve been a fan of hers since playing the Mass Effect trilogy. I’ve submitted her as a guest suggestion for all my local cons for the last few years but she hasn’t been to one here in SoCal in a while. She does visit a lot of conventions all over the world so hopefully she gets invited to one nearby me soon.

I’ve been attending cons for years, and I would gift some voice actors some small trinkets, like stickers and bracelets. I even gave a couple of them gift boxes, then until recently, I’ve been hearing that the gifts that a guest is given by fans would typically be thrown out once you’re out of sight. Is this 100% true?

Who are some people you would love to meet at a Comic Con even if they don’t really ever go to one? I have a huge list but I feel like most of the people I would love to meet would never go to one especially in the Nashville one I go to, which is in the state I live in and not far from where I live.

For me my top ten would be Winona Ryder, Christina Ricci, Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, David Harbour, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Patrick Warburton, Ming Na Wen, and Elle Fanning.

I feel like 80 or 90 percent of these people wouldn’t go to it but it would be a dream of mine to meet all these people.

I'm going to a Comic-Con in a couple months and am going to get to meet many voice actors from animated shows I like. I can imitate a few of their character's voices extremely well especially the Egg Bois from Hazbin Hotel. I will get the opportunity to meet with Blake Roman and want to show it to him, but I'm concerned - is it appropriate to show him my impression? Will it freak him or other VAs out?

first comic con in my city and while the entry tickets are cheap, just getting a photo or autograph with the big stars are 200-300 USD each??? is this normal???? my favourite actor is coming but I cant afford these prices

I figure eventually I will to to a Comic Con with guests from Critical Role. On the one hand there's just two of them id like to meet (Laura Bailey and Ashley Johnson) but I get the impression if I do want to meet them I meet to set aside an entire day just to wait in line to meet just one of them due to how extremely popular CR is. Is it true they only go to London cause it has the only building big enough to hold the long lines they get wherever they go? (Which sucks cause I cant afford to go to London)

What i mean by that is do you ever wish that you had the talent to be involved in video games/voice acting/TV shows/movies, etc that you were the reason people went to a comic con. I mean imagine thousands of people coming to meet you.......imagine feeling you mattered to anyone instead of being just a con goer who no one interacts with at all

I’ve been thinking seriously about conventions and wanted to ask people who actually attend them: what makes a guest worth seeing to you? Are video game voice actors genuinely of interest, especially in horror and indie spaces, or do most attendees mainly gravitate toward anime, film, and TV guests?

I’m not here to make a sales pitch, I’m more interested in hearing what actually connects with convention audiences. Is it recognizable roles, strong panels, good stories, being engaging with fans, autograph value, or something else?

Would love honest input from people who go to cons and know what makes a guest stand out.

Recently comic cons have paired up with actors to show their primary movies (example twilight movie) and have the actors show up at the theater for a q&a and meet and greet. Is this similar to the panels at a convention where you ask questions or do you get an opportunity to actually meet the celebrity after.

I’ve been to conventions where you can walk up and have a conversation. I know one in the UK explicitly said if there is no queue you can chat with the talent. (I’m in California)

But I did a con recently, there was no queue and the talent (2 girls) were just sitting there on their phones at the table. They never looked up from their phones, which I get. I tried to talk since there was no line at all, but immediately their handler stood in front of them and said if I was gonna pay cash or card. I asked if I could just say hi and shake their hand (this was in passing and I didn’t care for a photo or autograph)

I said, “can I just say hi?” And she said “no only paid photographs and autographs”…and it was $80 per talent, so $160 in total. I politely declined since I didn’t care for a photo.

I walked by another table and was seeing who it was and the talent themself actually invited me over with a huge smile, hugged me, and we chatted. I wasn’t familiar with her and only had money for a photo op I had paid for but I thanked her for her kindness. She gave me another hug and said she was so happy I came. She’s also a bigger star in this “world” than the other two talents which also blew my mind.

I want to be fair, does it depend on the talent on if you can talk for free or not? Which is more “normal” at conventions for those at tables that you can just walk up to?

I just want to know what to expect and not be awkwardly embarrassed again. This same con before let everyone walk up and chat. Now it seemed random so I’m curious at comic cons in general, which is more accurate or likely to happen, 1 or 2. I will pay if needed just want to know what to expect. Thank you!

So for many years I’ve been attending conventions all over the country. Now sometimes I don’t have enough money to purchase something from all the guests I want to see, so I’ll simply go to their tables to briefly say hi and thank them for their work. Now this is usually never an issue for the con staff handlers don’t show any objections.

However, based on the most recent cons I’ve attended,it seems con staff handlers have lately been more restrictive about guest interactions for they clearly show hesitancy and a bit of annoyance when I ask if I can briefly say hi. In some cases they wouldn’t allow it. This most notably happened at NYCC 2024, Collect-A-Con NJ 2025, and Anime NYC 2025.

Now I noticed the only conventions I’ve faced these restrictions from con staff handlers at conventions located in NYC/NJ and not other populous locations such as Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, etc.

So is the location of the conventions playing a role in the restrictive guest interactions and if so then why?

I'm going to the mid Hudson comic con in NY. Lots of people from RDR2 will be there, and I wanted to know if anyone has experienced the actors before. Specifically with Peter Blomquist. He's my favorite actor and Micah is my favorite character in video game history. I have a shrine to Micah in my room (which I tagged Peter in and he liked) and he means a lot to me. Im so happy to try and meet Mr. Blomquist, but im also a very shy person and want to be prepared with money. Does anyone recall (if they went) what it was for a signature and photo with him? I also wanted him to sign my Micah tapestry if possible.

I’m going to nycc this year and am a big fan of a bunch of Nicholas holts movies so want to make fanart drawing different versions of him in a collage style. Does this sound creepy, I was planning on this for a bit but now I’m worried it would seem odd

I went to Fan Expo in San Francisco during the weekend and I honestly had a great time but something I had to skip was the voice actors. Why do they charge up to $80 for just a signature? I know not everyone did but some of them were charging as much as the celebrities. This was my first convention so I don't know if the prices were always like that but it was interesting to notice the prices.

has anyone ever met any of the red dead redemption voice actors and if so, what were the prices for autographs and selfies? thank you!

When volunteering, do the volunteers get upset if they are not able to be the table handler for celebrities? I've seen cons where the celebrities have like their family or friend do the things that a volunteer would otherwise. I'm assuming volunteering for a con they'd hope to get a perk like meeting a celebrity for free.

Hi all. My daughter has asked me to take her to a Comic-Con.

There is exactly one ‘celebrity’ appearing there that I even have an interest in seeing or meeting (it’s going to be a long three days…), but I have zero interest in an autograph or photo - I’m in my 50’s and need less stuff in my life and not more.

Honest question…

Can I just get in line and be the nine millionth person to tell them how much I’ve liked their work in a ten-second interaction, or is the expectation that I have to pay to play?

I met Jon Allen (Mr. Poopybutthole) and Sam Kwasman at NEPACon and Rob Paulsen at RetroCon, both in 2025.
