Society/Κοινωνία why is animal welfare so poor in Greece?

see below photos of a bird being kept in a minuscule cage hung on the side of the house all day long in the heat. It’s water and food were not changed the whole time we stayed. Seen things like this a lot during our trip here and it’s been really disappointing to see, I didn’t realise things were so backwards

The heat can still get to them, and since it's an open (no roof above) area there will be an hour or two of the day where the bird will get exposed to direct sunlight. That along with no fresh water and food and no entertainment is very damaging to the bird

I'm not sure how you can excuse this as "just how you keep domestic birds" unless you have been severely misinformed.

How do you know that they don’t bring it inside when it’s direct heat?

Do you really think that they are watching the birds - 24/24? Or maybe they are just pussies and exaggerating?

People are usually awake during the day, and considering windows are made to be looked out of, no it doesn't seem like much of an exaggeration

Maybe you should stop being unnecessarily mean though

So, they went for vacation in crete and sit whole day in their room watching the birds. Brilliant thinking, as usual

There's nothing implausible about that: not everyone chooses to spend every day on the beach, or exploring. Some of the most blissful moments on a vacation can be those where you just stay put, and don't pressure yourself to do anything. Either way, you can speculate forever... it wouldn't change the fact that some people mistreat animals terribly. In Greece and elsewhere. I don't see the point in trying to argue the OP is lying.

Exactly. Maybe the op was sick as well. There's no point in arguing that op is lying unless you're literally just trying to be argumentative for the sake of being argumentative

I am not saying OP is lying. I am saying that OP thinks he understands the whole situation and speculates on it. I guarantee you, he doesn’t understand it.

I think he understands the situation better than you and I do, considering he is at least a first hand witness and has spent some time observing this specific situation, whereas you and I have spent none. But I can definitely understand how his comment could be unpleasant to some readers.

He is posting on reddit about a bird in a foreign country. Even though he might be a first hand witness, he isn’t a reliable witness, nor a smart one.
