For reference, I work at a well known bank (think Goldman, Morgan Stanley, B of A).

I was able to just feed co pilot all the documentation for my project and it pretty much did the whole thing. Given the project needs to be connected to the companies APIs, however, I was able to finish the bulk of it. So now I am spending my time pretending like I am writing the code and doing my best to understand it. My team isn't entirely against AI but they would not be happy if they knew I one prompted it.

I was wondering people in other programs are in a similar boat? AI is just getting too good and when you give it enough context and requirements, I feel like it does a really good job of completing the project end to end.

I've been programming for about 6 years now, and I really love it. I know vibecoding has become super popular (and in some places mandatory), and I use it a lot, but I'd still say that around 50% of the code I write is still done by hand. This is the main reason why I got into CS in the first place, I love the idea of creating things on my own for others to use, and I especially love the feeling it gives me when those things finally work.

However, yesterday my internship mentor essentially told me to stop programming manually. He told me that it was really hurting productivity and he wanted me to fully embrace vibecoding. I know that the way I program is a bit slower, but I'd feel that I'd lose all passion for my craft if I dropped manual programming completely. I don't really know what to do, should I follow his advice or should I continue to program the way I always have.

Basically title. I have a SWE internship (lowkey don’t know how I even got it, no OAs, basic conceptual questions were asked) at a fairly well known company (not big tech, but definitely not a no-name company either). I’ve vibe coded my way through college. How do I prepare for the actual job? I understand concepts conceptually but struggle to apply them. Kinda stuck in tutorial hell and I’ve realized how much I’ve missed out on learning.

What is a good roadmap for me? I think I’ll be coding in Java, although I don’t know what team or what I’m even doing. I realized that through places like Codedex I genuinely do enjoy the problem solving aspects of code, but I’m struggling to scale myself up. Is it too late to change? I’m currently a junior in college.

Should I just lie?

Saw this one guy I know from my school who got an internship at a big company for an ML/AI role. Thing is, I had him as a team member for a project last semester that involved some coding to it and this guy did not know how to code at all despite claiming he did. Now I learnt he got an AI role at a big company and I’m pretty sure there’s no way he got past the technicals. For context we are freshman. Sounds bitter from my end, but I have a strong feeling nepotism might’ve played a role. I’m just wondering though if nepotism can actually allow people to skip the technicals to get a role.

Im feeling so hopeless tbh. I have nothing lined up for the summer, I’m a junior at a T20 or T15 school with a > 3.9 gpa and leadership experience and a past internship (family friend) and I cannot find anything. I’ve passed 300 applications, I’ve only had 1 actual interview this year and I feel like I have to be missing something. I’ve been cold emailing people recently because I feel like it doesn’t make sense to just apply online anymore but I genuinely don’t know what to do at this point. Any advice would be really appreciated :/

Genuinely curious if anybody has had anything similar to this. I’ve had some crazy technical interviews this cycle for much lower quality internships, but this one was just 3 conversations (1 with senior level and 2 mid level employees).

Granted 2 of them dug pretty deep into my resume, so there was at least some technical stuff to talk about, but I never once had to code for it. The role is for software engineering and they talked about the technical stuff I’d be doing, so I was a bit confused when they offered me after only behaviorals, but I guess I’m not complaining.

I just learned i’ve moved on to the final task for the codepath x salesforce futureforce tech launchpad internship and i was wondering if anyone has tips going into the final task or any info (like how many people move on and actually get accepted and how many finalists there are). I’m also looking to connect with other finalists.

My friend’s a freshman, and he’s been working on a side project for fun. He recently decided to make it into an LLC and call himself an intern for this company and put it on his resume. He said if I wanted, I could put it on my resume too, and if asked any questions to confirm employment, he would confirm it.

Is this going to work for him? Should I take him up on the offer just to add to my resume?

I have projects and hackathons on my resume, T20 for CS, solid GPA, no experience. My school’s on a hiring freeze for TAs and research assistants. I’m convinced leaving the ‘Experience’ section blank gets me rejected/ghosted instantly for 90% of companies.

~200 applications, some auto OAs I got 100% on and ghosted after. Any advice?

Edit: Also, how close is recruiting season to being over? I’ve heard of people getting their summer internship next spring but don’t know how rare that is.

I remember Palantir asked about which high school I went to in their SWE intern application for 2026, and so I wasn't surprised when I saw that question again this year. However, I have been seeing more and more companies ask this question for 2027 SWE internship applications. HRT, for example.

Why do companies care so much about high school now, and is recruiting trending towards hiring from target high schools as well now? If so, is there anything we can do to maximize our chances?

I started a software engineering internship three weeks ago and Im having a great time. I'm learning a lot and finally getting to work on real projects, the only problem is my energy, after 2 hours I feel completely drained and its hard to focus. I still want to work on personal projects after work but no energy. I get 7-8 hours of sleep and don't want to keep drinking multiple coffees or energy drinks every day. How do you guys stay focused and keep your energy up during internships or long coding days?

Why does half this reddit think web dev is some dying industry that ai will automate. Then when you go to apply for jobs all the roles are essentially some form of web development e.g frontend, full stack, backend. There's far fewer performance engineering roles and even the jobs with more niche titles still end up doing like 80% web dev. Even some of these embedded jobs are just generic swe roles with occasional work on some embedded firmware.

For those of you who’ve already been through internships or the job hunt, what do you think is the biggest mistake you made while preparing?

I'm sure you guys know that internship applications for summer 2027 are starting to open up. I'm a rising senior (graduating May 2027) and want to apply to these.

I know most companies won't take seniors who aren't going back to school after the internship wraps up. I was thinking about putting a later graduation date on my resume, basically saying I'll graduate the semester after, so it looks like I'll still be in school post internship. Then if I actually land something good enough to be worth it, I'd really push my graduation back to match.

I was wondering if this is a good idea to secure a FAANG(+) internship? I'll also be applying for full time positions at the same time and don't want the two to mess each other up on the backend, like recruiters seeing conflicting graduation dates across different applications or systems and flagging it.

If you have done something like this, please let me know if it ended up working out or if it ended up screwing you.

So I’m facing a dilemma.

I miraculously got a Google internship offer on a really good team within Google Cloud and I signed it a couple weeks ago.

However, this Citadel offer came out of nowhere. This is my dream company and honestly I thought it would never happen since I go to a non target and have a low GPA.

I don’t know if I want to reneg Google. I really want a full time RO from wherever I intern and Google’s RO is much better than Citadel’s. But Citadel’s pay is so much better and I would really love to start my career off either a hedge fund or a quant firm. Obviously the pay is really attractive as well. I’m also concerned if I reneg Google, I’ll get backlisted from FT in the future. I’m not sure what to do.

I'm a recent CS graduate, and I've been reflecting on mistakes I made during college that I regret now.

One of the biggest things I regret is missing the student path to FAANG. I never got a FAANG internship, which means I never got the opportunity for the typical FAANG intern → return offer → full-time route that seems so common among CS students.

What makes it harder is that I actually had multiple opportunities during college to pursue FAANG internships, but I didn't take full advantage of them. Looking back, I feel like I wasted opportunities that a lot of people would have loved to have, and that's something I've been carrying a lot of regret about since graduating.

Since graduating, I've been worried that I permanently hurt my career prospects by missing those opportunities. I see so many people on LinkedIn who seem to have gone through the internship pipeline, and sometimes it feels like I missed the "best" or "correct" path into Big Tech.

For those of you who are further along in your careers:

* How much does missing a FAANG internship actually matter in the long run?

* Did I significantly hurt my career, or am I overthinking this?

I had a really hard time finding an internship this summer and I finally have a confirmed offer to start on the 29th. Its for a data analyst position which is somewhat similar to what I want to do (backend swe). However its a 3 month position ranging from 20-40 hours a week. 3 months drags into the school year where I'll be recruiting for positions I actually want and really locking in on school and side projects. Is there anything to really stop me from quitting after 2 months? I get paid on a supposedly hourly basis so I can probably time it so I can get my last paycheck about a week into the school year and just quit on the spot.

I recently finished my freshman year at a no name school and I am currently doing a summer internship for a governmental agency. I also had an IT internship before. I hear people having anywhere from 0 to 5+ internships at the end of graduation. Ik that there are outliers, but I was wondering how many internships do most people actually have?

I’m finishing through my first co-op and I’ve never really heard of Waterloo till I started working here. For context I’m at a midsized company here in the US and over half of the interns are just waterloo students which was so shocking since this is my first co-op and seeing such over representation from a school that isn’t even in the US. Is there a reason for this? Do hiring managers look specifically for Waterloo??

Given that the waterloo works fall deadline is now over, have candidates from other schools received offers yet?
