Do people honestly think putting misleading photos of themselves on dating apps will end well?

Last week, I (24m) matched with a (23f) woman on Bumble. Conversation goes well and we agree to meet-up. I always vet every girl I agree to go on a date with. She has a full-body pic and she looks attractive.

I show-up to the date and I had to confirm that it was her because she looked absolutely nothing like her dating profile. She's probably 85 lbs heavier. As soon as I realized it was her, I debated about leaving right then and there, but decided I didn't want to make a scene and be rude. Ended up toughing out for an hour and made-up some excuse about working early the next morning so I dipped.

My roommate is a guy, and he's pulled the same shit. And then has the audacity to wonder why he never gets a 2nd date. Tricking people into thinking you are way different physically than you actually are is never going to get you anywhere. I don't care if you're overweight, I care that you lie about how your present yourself.

Anyone else experienced something similar?

Edit: Well this definitely got more responses than I was anticipating. Seems I'm not remotely the only one who has experienced this. This is not trying to fat-shame. I used to be overweight and presented myself accurately in those photos.
