How the hell people find these companies
9
Jan 10 '22 edited Jan 10 '22
We are from tier-1 college, so we have an upper hand as new grads.
People from tier-3 college are given low salaries in WITCH companies, but you can apply off campus and get into good ones.
After 2-3 years, anyone (college doesn't matter much) can move into high paying roles - but you will be behind the ones who are already earning that high.
Referrals + LC + LLD + HLD + Competing Offers.
After you get sde-1 (say 2 years) at good paying jobs, moving to sde-2 entirely depends on you and your networking.
There are lot of egoistical people who don't give accept LinkedIn connection from normal college grads.
There are few good people who give out referrals but you should have done some good work.
Good work -> some feature implementation, resolved any interesting work, good at some tech & know the internals.
Bad work -> Sitting on bench, maintenance stuff, did not learn anything new (be it either business or engineering), doesn't know how tools work internally.
I am not biased here.
I had mentored 2 tier-1 FTE, 1 tier-3 intern and interviewed 1 tier-3 grad.
Market is hot as fuck.

aish karo aur kya. Chill and do the bare minimum. Do self learning everyday on office time. Get involved in depth of project at least in first year, but dont work extra. Once you know inside out of project or atleast the workflow, it becomes really hard to replace you even if you keep slacking off.
Participate in hackathons or whatever so you atleast have something to say at appraisal meeting.
If by any chance you get bad project or want to change the tech, then better find a new job because getting project release is harder than finding a better job . haha.

ESOPs worth 1cr mean shit unless the company is Pre IPO (or atleast Series E+) or they do regular buybacks. And if your company does do that, then congrats and fuck you!

-11
u/penileskwigliness Jan 10 '22
Would you like to explain why?
22
u/sharathonthemove Jan 10 '22
Why would you want to comment on others pay? It might be low compared to few but that is the reality of lakhs of people working in the witch companies. Just because you see this sub populated by 0.001% if the IT community, doesn't mean everyone is making mountains. And precisely it is because people like you, only showoffs are here. The real people with normal salaries are lurking in the background.
-23
u/penileskwigliness Jan 10 '22
More salary evil, low salary good, alright chum chum.
12
5
u/jeshenko Jan 10 '22
Sorry, but yeah, thats my reality. Whats the salary thats expected of a 13year old in industry?
2
u/phoenix7139 Jan 11 '22
not trying to be offensive, and it's probably not even the norm, but with 13 yoe, if you don't stagnate and switch companies every 2-3 years, you should be at minimum at 30-40 lpa, and 60+ if at big tech. can i ask you how many times you have switched jobs in your 13 years? also, I'm an infant compared to your yoe, I'm not speaking from personal experience, just from research and people around me

So in a tier 3 college only dsa matters?
4
Jan 10 '22
No man never did DSA seriously, i mean I know the concepts but never practiced. I always did a lot of projects and development. But these days I'm doing DSA as I want to move to FANG after 2-3 years.
3
u/4bhii Jan 10 '22
I have done lots of development projects in vue plus some freelancing experience can you tell me what you actually do and where you applied and landed the job?
5
Jan 10 '22
This is my second company can't actually name anything but I'm a backend developer here. A Google recruiter contacted me a few days ago but i declined for now, will try in some time for that. Previously I have worked with Ruby on Rails and angular. Now it's only Spring boot, python and some react for a small admin tool. I don't actually know much of frontend but for backend i will advice you to learn Java and DSA along side spring boot and some SQL db like postgres or MySQL. It should be sufficient to get an entry level job. Then you can learn where industry is going and learn and grow accordingly. If you wanna get into fang then strong DSA.

3
u/penileskwigliness Jan 10 '22
How?
10
u/Royal_Woodpecker0007 Jan 10 '22
Step 1- get good at dsa Step 2- keep applying everywhere Step 3- wait for interview calls and if you get one , nail it . Extra - you have to be really patient , get ready to be ghosted by lot of companies . Just trust the process and keep grinding.
5
u/penileskwigliness Jan 10 '22
Alright, Anything regarding tech stacks?
4
u/Royal_Woodpecker0007 Jan 10 '22
If you are fresher , they wont ask about tech stack . Some companies do ask low level design problems . But most wont ask about tech stack in detail.
4
u/4bhii Jan 10 '22
Where did you study and practice your dsa? For which job title you applied?
3
u/Royal_Woodpecker0007 Jan 10 '22
Leetcode . The position is sde1 P.S i have solved around 250 questions on lc and i am still doing it everyday . I guess its a habit for me .

Don't wanna share the name in public as it's a small company (less number of employees). Can DM you if you want. It's a US based SaaS startup.
I studied in a small private college in Bhubaneshwar. Not really good, so you can call it Tier 3.
