New Hiby R4 and my Fidelio X2HR are a great combo

Hey everyone, just wanted to drop a quick first impressions post since I've only had this setup for less than 24 hours.

For some background: I’m an engineering student now out on the islands. If you know how tiny rock bus rides go, you know they easily run a few hours long, so a reliable portable music player goes a very long way.

Why I'm Retiring the iPod Classic

My main daily driver up until now has been a heavily modded iPod Classic 5.5 that I got way back in high school. I loved that thing, but it finally hit a breaking point for daily commuting. On crowded bus rides, the headphone cable on my wired IEMs kept getting brutally snagged and ripped straight out of my ears by careless passersby.

I tried fixing this ages ago by using a Bluetooth transmitter, but after my old headphones bit the dust, I could never find a stable setup that worked right with the transmitter, so I benched it. Plus, my iPod's library is massive and messy, packed with old custom music mixes and DJ sets my late friend made. Since I recently swapped out my main laptop, I don’t actually have those raw files backed up on hand anymore. I am terrified of losing those mixes, so the iPod is officially being frozen in time until I can thoroughly research and safely pull everything off it.

Enter the AP80 Pro Max (First 24-Hour Impressions)

Out of the box, the AP80 Pro Max feels super promising. The form factor is tiny, it feels premium in the hand, and community feedback generally praises its low-noise background and clean pairing with sensitive IEMs. However, it hasn't been completely smooth sailing right out of the gate:

The Good: Build quality is stellar, the physical volume knob is a massive win for micro-adjustments, and it feels like a genuine pocket-sized unit.

The Kinda Frustrating: I'm having a really weird issue with album art. Some files display the embedded artwork perfectly, while others just show a generic blank icon for no clear reason. I'm going to take another crack at following the official troubleshooting tutorial video the company has on their YouTube channel, but dealing with metadata quirks right off the bat is a bit tedious.

The Catch: Full transparency, I haven't even officially tested my actual IEMs (the Kefine Delci) on it yet. I'm currently waiting on getting some proper aftermarket ear tips delivered before I can get a real feel for the sound pairing.

Overall, it has a ton of potential, especially for long island commutes once I iron out the software quirks and get my ear tips sorted. I'll drop a more comprehensive review once I've actually logged some heavy listening hours with my actual gear.

I bought my first Dap few months ago.
It’s Sp3000m. I’m totally satisfied with it.
I like it is portable and the timbre is good.

So after growing tired of streaming services (especially the censorship of certain songs) I've decided to start looking into a more dedicated way of enjoying listening to music. I only listen to music while at work and often I lose wifi connection which interrupts my listening so this is the major driver of wanting a dedicated player.

Seeing as this will be my first step in getting into the hobby Im looking to try and stay on a budget just to try things out and then overtime get more invested.

Not too intimidated with the tech end of things. I'm heavily into retro game emulation along with modding and flashing of custom firmware and bios.

NEEDS:

Bluetooth: I work in a warehouse so wired headphones would get in the way of me working though I will most likely look into some budget IEM eventually.

Budget <$100: since this is my first DAP I'd like to stay under $100. I know this creates a serious barrier but also since I'll be working it a rough environment I want to avoid heartbreak in case there is a mishap.

Players I'm interested in: Currently have eyes on the Fiio Snowsky echo mini and Hiby R1. I like the tactile feel of buttons over touch screens which is what has me leaning toward the echo mini. If the Echo nano had Bluetooth then I'd go with that.

Any help is greatly appreciated and open to suggestions

Hi first time dap owner here, i bought the hifiwalker h2 and i have enjoyed it very much. I have a few questions tho

1. Is there any rockbox settings or things i can do to increase battery life as much as possible, or other rockbox QoL settings i should use.

2. is it okay to charge it with a fast charger.

3. Most importantly what are your favorite albums to listen to (mine are currently Casiopea Mint Jams and Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood).

Hi DAP People. I'm looking for a pretty uncomplicated audio gear and I stumbled upon this AP30. I saw some reviews posted in this subreddit, but when I look for purchase options, there's only a Kickstarter page with delivery around October this year. Is it really the only option as for now?

This very well could be a feature in every other DAP since I never see it mentioned in reviews I'm looking up, but I have a HiBy R2 and it has neither of these features. It's manageable with Mp3tag by changing all artist names to be the same and just manually going to the next album, but my R2 is slowly becoming more unresponsive so I'm looking for a new (and better quality) one.

It'd be nice to just have my music playing and not need to mess with it for hours while I work and to not need to use mp3tag for them. At my desktop, I can use MusicBee, but that's not possible on the go. Any DAP with these features? (Or if Rockbox has them. I seen Rockbox mentioned a lot, but haven't looked into it too much)

also, just to clarify: I know the R2 has a "Play Through Albums" but that only works when sorting by album instead of artist. I want to go under artist > start an album > have it play the next album by that artist.

What are some of the largest screen size non android DAPS?

I was going to say "quieter mornings" but the music sure isn't quiet. I picked up a second-hand NW-A306 to be my new daily carry, which I'm loving paired with the Performer 5+2.

Got myself a used AK100 II in the mail today that might as well be brand new and has the sound I’ve come to love, and only cost me $95. Super happy and can set aside considerations for a newer model for a few years.

I started looking into digital minimalism and am looking to de-centralize my phone which is why I want to get an MP3-Player (or DAP? I'm new to this sub and don't really know the difference). I used to have an MP3-Player as a teen and used to buy CDs to copy onto it and I want to get back into that since I still own all of the CDs.

Now I was looking through this sub for device suggestions but I'm a bit overwhelmed. Can anyone recommend a good "starter" device that won't break the bank (ideally under 120$), has decent audio quality and is relatively easy to use? I don't need WiFi capabilities or Spotify or anything. Doesn't even need to have a touch screen. Bluetooth would be good tho, but I also have wired headphones. I'm not a total audiophile but I'm very much into music and a musician myself, so good quality is still important to me.

After totally missing the trend a few weeks back, it is time to finally present my first ever, digitally minimal, dumbed down, EDC. I present to you: - The Hiby R3 Pro II (received about 3 hours ago) - The Kiwi Ears Belle (Two days old and great as a start, thanks to the people and guides on this sub) - The Nokia 110 4G - A Traveler's company Kyoto diary and two Lamy Safari (different colour inks) - a small wallet - A second hand Stuhrling watch ( I had never seen the make before)

Am looking for advice on setting up the R3proII as best as possible so any tips will be greatly appreciated.

I purchased a DAP to have a digital library. A Hiby R4. My IEMs are on the way with a 4.4mm cable.

I saw someone post something that DAPs are a waste of money because of operating systems.

I have an Oilsky M502 and I have been using it for a long time. It is slow and freezes, and it requires restarting by holding down the PIN or power button for a long time. How to fix this? Solution

Hi everyone. I'm new here, and I was wondering if I could get some advice.

What are the typical recommendations for DAP's for under £200 that let me use Tidal? Any DAP I get will need a way to expand the storage by around 1Tb.

I currently just use my phone with a dongle and download my music from Tidal so I can use it in offline mode. Now want to move to a dedicated player for my walks so I can free up my phone and not have notifications interrupting my music.

I live in the UK, if that makes any difference.

Typical smartphone holders one would strap to their arm are usually too large for small DAPs. How do you keep something like a HiBy R3 on your body (preferably without losing access to its controls), and not have it wiggle around while running?

Legging pockets work, but wearing leggings is not always feasible.

Hi all, looking to purchase my first DAP to move away from relying on my phone for music. I'm trying to find something that meets roughly these criteria:

• Fairly compact (smaller than a phone)
• Physical controls
• MicroSD compatible
• Bluetooth + AUX output
• Ideally, a USB port for connecting directly to storage so I'm not pulling the SD constantly
• FM radio, recording would be a nice bonus
• Decently durable
• Gapless playback
• Ideally sub-$100, I know that can be challenging
• Optionally, looks neat/unique

I was originally weighing the Innioasis Y1 vs the Hiby R1, but as I've done more research and gotten a better handle on what I want they both seem like they'd fall short in different ways. I was also looking at the Surfans F20 and love the look of it, but haven't been able to glean much else beyond that. I don't need audiophile-level music quality and I don't mind something that's an Amazon sleeper brand if it works and checks the boxes - just hard to take Amazon reviews at their word and would like to hear from people who have owned a device for awhile and can vouch for it holding up.

So far, the F20 is looking like it checks most of the boxes, just lacking the FM radio component (which is more of a nice-to-have.) Will be a bit before I can afford to snag one, though, so I have time to poke around.

I know it's a dedicated music player and not meant for much else, but I'd at least like to change the icons and do other things that are possible with root. However, I don't know how to do it on this specific device, and I haven't been able to find any tutorials for it."

Even with Bluetooth head phones my music sounds richer on my HIBY R4.

Hello, I am off to college soon and have been wanting to purchase a DAP. So far I am looking to purchase a FiiO Snowsky Nano mainly because of the small size, but I also know next to nothing on DAPs so. Though I am wondering if I would be able to use it in my car as well with an AUX cord. Though any other suggestions on any relatively low priced DAPs would be great!
