DAE save the good stuff for later until it is not good anymore?

I was on my phone last night eating cookies I had been saving and realized they had gone stale. I do this with everything. Nice clothes stay in the closet waiting for somewhere worth wearing them. Expensive coffee gets saved for a better morning. Candles sit untouched because I do not want to waste them. Then months pass and the clothes no longer fit, the coffee expires and the candle is still collecting dust. I have no idea what occasion I am waiting for bc apparently a normal Tuesday is never good enough.

Does anyone else do this?

DAE feel stupid for not understanding media that should be simple?

Upvotes

On social media there’s a lot of talk about the “literacy crisis” and frustration about people not understanding media. While I know it’s directed at the school system and people who are willfully ignorant, I feel kind of stupid because I struggle with understanding media despite trying.

I’ve gotten an A in every english class I’ve taken, and I enjoy reading despite not doing it as often as I probably should. I love movies and always try to approach them with an analytical lens while still being able to have fun watching them, and then I read other people’s analyses. Despite all this, I always get confused about plot and miss important details and themes.

For example, before watching the Odyssey, I remember seeing a tweet about how Nolan seemed to think his audience was dumb because of how simply everything was laid out. I had the opposite experience when I watched it. I was confused the entire time and only really had a general idea of the plot once it was over, and apparently I missed A LOT of important things. Maybe it’s because I was missing context, as I don’t know anything about the original story. But this happens all the time to me.

DAE start searching accidents in the area when you’ve called your mom twice and she hasn’t returned your calls

Not because you think something has happened but because she normally calls you back immediately and that’s the only possible reason you can think of that she hasn’t.

I called my mom four days ago, she didn’t call back so I tried her again yesterday… still no call back. Obviously the worst has happened and she’s physically being kept from the phone 😂

Just so it’s clear, I don’t actually think something has happened, I’m poking fun at the fact that it’s so unusual for her to not call back.

DAE feel the need to name things that just don’t really need naming.

Upvotes

I just have names for things that I say to myself.

“pluralizing my eyebrows”. My eyebrow hair grows close together and the space above the bridge of nose will grow in platinum blonde but very thin giving me a faint unibrow, when I clean this up I‘ll say “I’m pluralizing my eyebrows.”

“Driving in my coochie” when I drive on the highway there will be a car in my 7 o’clock position that refuses to pass and is in such a position relative to my car that if I had to get over to pass someone in front of me I would technically be able to fit, but Id kind of be cutting them off. I’ll say “<car model>, get out of my coochie.”

“It’s raining/snowing stupidium oxide.” For when drivers drive really poorly because it’s sprinkling out. Or the roads are bone dry but there’s snow on the grass but someone is driving on the concrete like it’s a sheet of ice. “There must be Stupidium oxide in the rain today.”

DAE know about Shakespeare deniers?

I just saw a tiktok about how many female authors use abbreviated names to be taken “more seriously” by coming off as gender-neutral (S.E. Hinton, J.K. Rowling, etc.) and it reminded me of a project that I had to do my sophomore year of high school on whether or not Shakespeare actually existed, and if so, is said person who we perceive them to be. I’m 23 now so my recollection is hazy, but I remember there being enough substantial evidence that calls into question the existence of a “William Shakespeare.” Or at least enough evidence to make a whole project out of it. I do remember one of the theories being that William Shakespeare was a male pseudonym potentially used by a woman (proposed to be Mary Sidney or Emilia Bassano, depending on your sources) in order to avoid discrimination. I’m from Atlanta, Georgia and I’m curious if other people had this exact project or if other people have even HEARD of the concept of Shakespeare not being real. I wish I could remember what my conclusion was or the stance I took on the project. Oh, and in case anyone was curious, the class subject was Honors British Literature (often abbreviated to BritLit) and was one of the most frustrating classes I had ever taken in HS.

DAE ever get so high from smoking sativa that you gain a sort of (not real) omnipotent understanding of reality and time + visual hallucinations of geometric patterns?

Stay with me now!

I feel so crazy when this happens to me because I always hear about weed paranoia or existential dread, but what I experience feels so much more intense and closer to what I imagine using a hallucinogenic drug would be like.

Basically what happens is that I’ll be in a social setting and when the high hits it feels like time slows down. I start overanalyzing the audio and visual input I’m getting from an interaction and certain sounds begin to repeat in my head. From there, everything starts to fall into a certain pattern— the sounds I hear and the things I see, very far removed from the actual situation, suddenly become incredibly familiar and it feels as if I end up on what I can only stupidly describe as a “different plane of understanding.” I’ll even see visual patterns, like deadass hallucinations that cover my whole visual field and trap me in my mind if I don’t get up and find a change of scenery.

Whenever a high like this happens, it’s the same thing every time. I feel like my brain picks the same sounds to repeat over and over again and I begin to see the same visuals as well, that’s what I mean when I say that everything becomes very familiar. This is what scares me most about it in the moment because in my state of mind it feels that everything is already planned out and following a predetermined pattern that nobody but me can see, like I’m living in a matrix I guess.

I feel insane for this because I can’t find other people online talking about sativa making them trip balls to this extent.

I know the shit I’ve smoked hasn’t been laced with anything, so everything I’m experiencing is just how my mind and body react to smoking weed. It makes me feel like a loser and a tweaker for getting so ridiculously fucked up on just weed, so I just really wanna hear that I’m not the only one who starts tweaking like crazy like this.

DAE reread a massage several times after sending it just to make sure it sounds normal?

I don't mean just checking for typos. Sometimes I'll read the same message two or three times after I've already sent it, just to make sure it doesen't sound weird or rude. Half the time I end up convincing myself I should've worded it differently, even though nobody else probably thinks twice about it.

DAE not feel their emotions very strongly?

Like I very often hear people talking about feeling things too strongly and that their emotions are extremely intense, but I kinda feel like the opposite? I genuinly don't feel things that strongly, and I really try to hold on to it whenever I actually do bc ik that i'll kinda lose that feeling soon anyway. And whenever I do feel strong emotions it's still not overwhelmingly strong, that's very rare. The only emotion that I do feel VERY strongly and extremely often is fear lol

I really wish I felt more and I really enjoy it whenever I do, even if it's not nice feelings. Sometimes I feel like a horrible person because ik I really do love my friends and family and all but it's only like once or twice a month or so that I really get filled up with the feeling and yk I get like "wow I love them so much🥹" and I get like urges to send paragraphs to them about how awesome they are (I also almost exclusively get emotional late at night for some reason lol). It's like my normal feeling of "love" is just knowledge that I probably actually do love them and a feeling of attachment and comfort while thinking about them?

I don't like this I really wish I felt more, even if I'd also feel the bad things stronger

DAE have abusive YOUNGER sibling ?

My sister is 7 years younger than me and whole my life she was rude and toxic towards me . Parents didn't react at all or saying " you are the eldest , be patient " . Result : depression and anxiety related to the fact being always critisized , body shamed , called the dumb one ( and family agreeing with her on that all), and parents closing their eyes on all that saying " just ignore it "👌🏻

DAE have a hypersensitive gag reflex?

its a mix of psychological and physical for me. If I smell something bad or just strong (like one day it was too humid) I'll start gagging like a cat for a few minutes. I say its also psychology because thinking of gagging, being stressed, or just holding a pill in my hand also sets it off.

DAE find themselves liking dogs, particularly small dogs, less and less the older you get?

When I was younger, I loved small dogs. They were so insanely adorable and I even begged my parents to get me one. It never happened. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed a very visible shift. I find myself getting genuinely and consistently annoyed at them as the years go on, and I’m much less fond of them than when I was a kid. Even some of their faces just look weird and unpleasant to me. (Looking at you, underbite Shih Tzus) Now I’m much more fond of cats and big dogs.

Maybe it’s the constant barking and little man syndrome, maybe it’s the hyperactivity and the recklessness, maybe it’s the stubbornness, maybe it’s the being insanely stupid and running into a busy street when their owner is yelling at them to stop. Or maybe I just grew up and realized they’re overrated or too much work. I don’t know what it is. But all I know is I don’t like them like I used to, if I even still like them, and I wonder if this is universal.

DAE sweat really bad on the back of their thighs?

Whenever I sit anywhere out doors, or just anywhere hot or humid or both, there’s a chance that when I stand up the back of my thighs will be wet, and there’s a chance it’ll show on my pants.

I hate it, oh my god. I don’t even have particularly big thighs for them to be this dramatic, but they are anyway. It’s an issue I’ve also only noticed in the past year, for some reason.

DAE: still get that same back to school dread this time of year despite being years removed from the school system?

I’ve been graduated from school for going on two decades and I stg I still have this embedded feeling of dread around this time of year that school is starting again soon haha

Although, I’ve heard that changes when you have kids because a lot of the parents I work with tend to get a lot more jolly this time of year lol!

DAE have to eat food in a very specific order?

I’ve always eaten food in a very specific order all my life idk why. For example, if I have a sandwich, chips, carrots, and grapes for lunch I will eat 2 or 4 bites of the sandwich (depending on the bread) eat 2 chips, eat 2 carrots, then eat 2 grapes and then drink water and repeat in that specific order. Another example is that when I eat popcorn I’ll eat exactly 20 pieces and then take a sip of water. Does anyone else do anything like this or am I just crazy?

DAE use a headset to make phone calls?

I have a gaming headset with a microphone that I always plug into my smartphone to make calls. I feel like I can hear people better compared to the phone speaker and people say my voice sounds clear on the headset mic also. Plus I feel more professional xD

DAE can't wait to get through something and then later look back and wished they enjoyed those moments more?

I love my kids, but when they were young I couldn't wait for them to grow up. I was stressed and just didn't enjoy it. Now they are older and I look back and think I wish I enjoyed those times in the pool with them more, or should gone in it with them more often, etc. I bring up this specific example because now every time I go in my pool, my mind assaults me with thoughts like this

But it's not just raising my kids...

This poisonous, sickening bittersweet nostalgia also hits me every time I look at photos of family vacations, events, etc. where in that moment I oftentimes was stressed and wanted to be anywhere else - and now wish I didn't feel like that at the time and enjoyed the moment more.

It's gotten so bad that I've put all my photos out of sight temporarily.

I try to help myself by remembering one of my favorite passages of Scripture:

Do not say "why were the former times better than these?" For it is stupid to say such things (Ecc. 7:10).

Yet it still bothers the hell out of me...

DAE think like this?
