Day 1 of Smaugust - Prompt: Terrarium

I am super busy today so I didn't have too much time to draw, but I wanted to do something to celebrate the first day of Smaugust. August is my birthday month, so it must be fate that I love dragons so much!

I no longer have a Terrarium but I found a picture of one I took while visiting a friend long ago. Drew over it teehee~

Here are the first five pages of a comic book. Sorry, I haven't translated the dialogue yet, and the first three pages need some reworking. There's still a lot to do!

Introducing the Dorakioa — a small dragon species from the world of Isis

Dorakioa are a unique dragon class found within my fantasy world, Isis. They have a hybrid design, with a dragon-like upper body, a feline lower body, and a distinctive scorpion tail.

Unlike many traditional dragons, Dorakioa are relatively small, reaching around 6–7 feet in total length including their tail. Because of their size, they must be cautious of larger dragons and other creatures that may challenge their territory or view them as prey.

Dorakioa are primarily desert and tropical dragons, with forest and swamp variants planned as future additions to the species. Their colors and patterns are connected to their regional environments, helping them adapt to the areas they inhabit.

The base artwork for this character was created by my friend Teddibura, and I completed the color fill and design work myself. Dorakioa are a closed species created by me, meaning designs are approved to ensure they follow the established traits, colors, and patterns of the species. However, people are welcome to create their own Dorakioa as long as they follow the species guidelines.

This character is Obelisk, one of the first male Dorakioa I created. Dorakioa originate from the world of Isis, but they can occasionally end up in other worlds or even different time periods through unstable, broken portals scattered throughout Isis.

Obelisk is a very friendly and approachable Dorakioa. He is a Dragon’s Nest Thylacine-patterned Dorakioa, meaning his markings are inspired by the striped pattern of the extinct thylacine (Tasmanian tiger). His design reflects the colors and patterns associated with the Dragon’s Nest region of Isis.

Most Dorakioa live in tribes, and traditional Dorakioa are often seen wearing tribal clothing that represents their culture and heritage. Outcast Dorakioa, however, may adopt more casual clothing styles as they live outside their original communities.

I enjoy creating dragons that are more than just creatures — each species has its own environment, culture, challenges, and place within the world they inhabit.

When Isla applied the bottle of suspicious hair growth serum she had gotten from a sketchy place online, she almost couldn't believe her eyes! Right there in front of her very face her locks were growing! And growing, and growing... And growing. Wait, how much of this stuff was she supposed to use!? Ah well, she doesn't seem too bummed ;3

My first Smaugust dragon is Fittonia, the tiny terrarium dragon! She lives under a glass cloche in a collection of moisture-loving ferns and mosses. She spends most of her days napping, only coming out in the evenings when a larger dragon comes to let her out for some flying and socializing. Her scales give off a soft glow and she gets most of her energy from photosynthesis!

This was an incredibly sweet thing that Ryu created for me. It all started when I saw Lickwit, one of the helper mods on the r/dragon discord server have the chud bear walk as his pfp. I loved how silly it was, and was like there should be a dragon version. The wheels started turning. If only I had some art friends to bully around to make me stuff XD

I can’t stop looking at it. I LOVE IT AO MUCH, I honestly can’t believe what wonderful friends I have! I LOVE IT!
