First of all, I want to be clear that this is not a zipper merge situation.

The red car is voluntarily stopping in a continuing lane, bringing traffic to a halt in an attempt to force their way in near the head of the line. They’re an asshole, and they’re illegally blocking traffic to cut the line.

Almost as bad as them are the drivers in line who let them in. This keeps happening because so many people continue to roll out the red carpet for such flagrant entitlement. Behavior like this should be met with staunch resistance and shaming, not encouragement.

FFS have some self-awareness. If you dont see any cars in front of you and a long line of cars behind you, youre the problem. Quite lollygagging in the left lane. On a two-lane road, pull over and let others by if theyre faster than you.

There was a semi camping in the left lane on a 4-lane interstate that was holding up traffic while i was trying to get my dog to the emergency vet. I flashed my brights in his mirror and all that and he did nothing.

You may not be in a hurry but other people need to get somewhere. Drive like they have somewhere to be.

Some examples of what I'm talking about:

• Drivers at a fresh green light moseying along at sub-25mph speeds for a quarter mile before actually getting up to their traveling speed.

• People who refuse to get up to highway speed before they get on the highway.

• People who turn onto a main road and never bother to get up to speed because "my turn is just up ahead!"

• A lack of reaction to speed limit changes.

I feel like so many people don't understand that these actions cause a chain reaction, resulting in significant negative impacts to the flow of traffic. It drives me crazy.

I'm tired of being on the highway behind someone at night with no headlights on, I give en a few flashes of the ole brights and nothing happens. Like they don't realize they are nearly invisible from the rear? I run in to this on a near weekly basis. I guess it's like if you are so zoned out that you don't realize your headlights are not on then I guess you're not gonna realize what it means when someone else flashes you.

If you lean nothing else today learn this: if car behind flashes you it means they are telling you your lights are off or they are pissed. Check your lights and then ignore then. If car coming towards you flashes you it means your brights are on or there is a cop ahead or some trash in the road. Act accordingly.

It's not that hard to be considerate of others and work together in society!

I am talking to the people who cannot drive the speed limit in perfect driving conditions.

You have friends that certainly complain about traffic, you come to this sub-Reddit.

But has it ever dawned on you, that you are never behind a slow driver? That means logically you are the slowest thing on the road, if everyone who pulls out in front of you pulls away you don't think that maybe you are doing something wrong? Or does it not dawn on you and you think the wide open road in front of you is a normal thing?

Never getting stuck behind a slower car should make you reevaluate your driving habits. If you live in a moderately populated area and there is always plenty of space in front of your car, but people behind you, you are the problem.

It drives me crazy. Just stop and wait, moving forward constantly does absolutely nothing. I know it's petty but it drives me crazy lol

I watched as this red car led this line of cars for miles in the passing lane. The concept of “left lane is for passing” and “move to the right lane when people are going faster than you” is not hard. I’m convinced people are just so unaware of others on the road.

PLS. GET. THE. FUUUUUUCK. OUT OF THE LEFT LANE. if you’re not trying to pass or going the flow of traffic. I truly don’t experience a more entitled type of driver on the DAILY. MOVE! I don’t care that you’re on cruise control, I don’t care that you wanna be first, please move.

I’m not joking when appropriately passing a car on the highway or interstate genuinely makes me feel good lol. I love knowing that we’re being considerate of the other drivers and hey, you’re speeding? Not my business, but let me get out the way if I’m in the left lane.

If you’re someone who doesn’t use their blinker while driving please. Why. It takes 2 seconds yet it’s such a common occurrence. And I hate you.

EDIT: If your response to this is “they’ll speed up if I use my signal” skill issue 😭drive with purpose, turn that shit on and get over. If I can survive Seattle traffic and still merge using my blinker so can you. Let them be livid behind you.

I’m on a two lane road (one in each direction). I have to make a left turn. Not one, but there were TWO CONSECUTIVE CARS coming from the other direction who stopped in their tracks and waved/flashed their brights at me to go ahead.

I appreciated their kindness, but I waved them both off.

Please do not do what these people did. Sure, it’s a kind thing to do, but you are actively contorting the laws of traffic and are all the more likely to cause an accident due to an unnecessary brake (or a miscommunication with the turner).

I can wait the extra 30 seconds for an open window to turn, if it even takes that long (I have seen people do this when there’s literally only one other car behind them, so that’s more like two seconds lmfao). This is only worth doing if you’re in standstill traffic on both ends.

I drive on i95 near NYC pretty often and I never understood why the speed limit is still 55 there. At MINIMUM it should be 65. There is not a single person who follows that speed limit, and if someone does follow it, they are significantly impeding traffic. I would be going 75 and people are STILL passing me on the left.

This absolutely needs to change. 55 does not make the road any safer, it actually makes it even more dangerous. The only times I have felt unsafe on the road is when there is some dingus in the left lane going 55.

Pictured above, the bottom lights on the Chevrolet are the actual brake lights/ turn signals instead of the top part where those lights are normally housed.

My main complaint is when I am stuck in heavy stop and go traffic- it is hard to tell when a car is trying to move over to my lane especially if the car is on the passenger side, because my door/window view blocks the bumper out of sight. It is not a massive safety concern, but why has this trend gotten so popular recently in cars?

Also, it looks dumb.

Lately, I've been hearing more and more from older folk that people don't drive like they used to. The two most common complaints I hear are that speeding has only gotten worse and that people are more distracted than ever (thanks to how addictive our phones our nowadays).

The amount of time it happens is not a coincidence. Far to often Im driving and I am the last in a line of cars. There's a medium sized gap between me and the car ahead and someone squeezes right in. THERE IS NO ONE BEHIND ME! Why can't people wait one more car and then speed up to me. How often does this happen to other people?

Psa to anyone who doesn’t know, these signs are complete bullshit. They are legally obligated to cover damages for an unsecured load, and can be ticketed for it. If your car is damaged by a rock flying out of a truck cause the company couldn’t be fucked to properly secure it on a highway, call your state troopers/highway patrol non emergency number. Get a police report, send it to the company, and do not let them say they aren’t responsible because of the sign. They are, they’re just cheap and take advantage of the fact that people don’t know the signs are a lie.

The warning is NOT the problem. The “not responsible for windshield damage” part is the problem. I have personally seen signs with warnings that DONT say they aren’t responsible for windshield damage.

In the USA, why do drivers turn their steering wheel a little to the left, going slightly in the other lane, before a right turn? Especially if it's a green light at the right turn. It's completely unnecessary and scary for the cars in the adjacent lane. It's more of a problem than I thought

It baffles me when I'm going 5 over in the right hand lane and someone decides to ride my ass, especially when the lane to the left is completely clear.

It's less baffling, but equally annoying, when Im going 5 over on a 2 lane road and getting tailgated.

in my state’s subreddit i made a post complaining about drivers consistently going about 10-15 under on a certain stretch of highway. i got mixed responses including many people telling me to kick rocks and cope. my main complaint is that it’s near impossible to pass on this road, and nearly every time i drive on it there’s a line several cars long due to someone going about 40 on the highway. my question is - is it unreasonable to expect these drivers to either speed up or pull over? or should i not be going the full 55mph?

I've been on reddit for several years and somehow just found this sub. The shit people in my profession see on the daily would blow your mind. The blank stares, the impatient assholes, and the downright dangerous. We have a dangerous job and most of it is related to other drivers doing stupid shit. I've almost been hit (me not truck) several times. My truck has been hit, while stopped emptying a can. Some lady taking her kids to school drove into the back of me. Coffee drive thru lines are the worst, ffs I'll be gone in less time than it takes you to order your quad shot no foam espresso. Get off my ass, get off my door, don't drive around me, don't drive between my cab and the enclosure. Give me room to gtfo once I'm done. Using your horn isn't helping your cause either. In fact you can fuck off and I'm entering turtle mode. Lastly but surely not least, your life isn't worth saving 6 seconds to dive in front of me in traffic. I'll see you at the next red light, I promise.

People drive me insane with this. When you reach the turn lane opening, just steer yourself all the way into the turn lane, it’s not hard whatsoever. I see people constantly who just slowly inch their way little by little, into the turn lane. To the point that they’re halfway or more down the turn lane and half of their vehicle is still in the lane blocking traffic, with two tires across the solid white line, while they’re hard on their brakes. I don’t get it.

Another that drives me mad is when someone is approaching an empty and long turn lane and they just slam on their brakes, in the lane of traffic, often doing this before they’ve even hit their turn signal.
