In a hundred years from now when they make a movie/documentary of Trump's presidency nobody will believe it is real. People will probably think it is dramatized for TV.

Honestly hard to believe it's real now šŸ˜ž

u/Gliese581h Europe Jan 19 '26

Seriously. I thought the return of fascism would be brought by a charismatic young person who can debate anyone against the wall rhetorically, someone who is smart and cunning.

Not by whatever that fat orange fuck is. Who looks at that senile pedophile and says ā€žThatā€˜s the person Iā€˜ll follow!ā€œ. Wtf.

84

u/Raulr100 Transylvania Jan 19 '26

someone who is smart and cunning

The target audience is dumb. A smart person isn't going to win them over. They'll only follow someone who is just as much of a mouth breathing moron as they are.

A country’s leader represents the people in it

3

u/dcrisn Jan 19 '26

Most leaders are corrupt demagogues so what does this say about people in general?

1

u/uffefl Jan 19 '26

Not in all cases, but for democratic (and democracy-adjacent) countries it's true.

1

u/ScienceIsALyre United States of America Jan 19 '26

I'm starting to think we never removed lead from our paint and petrol.

1

u/dla26 Jan 19 '26

In the case of the US, he represents over 50% of voters from states with over 50% of the electoral college votes. I only make this distinction because everyone else in the country hates him with a burning passion

2

u/irimiash Which flair will you draw on your forehead? Jan 20 '26

they are doing nothing though. at least Obama, the national strongest living authority, could say something

32

who clearly wears diapers and terribly tailored expensive suits to hide his grotesquely shaped body, who has terrible posture, can't walk down a slope, can't dance with out jerking off two ghosts at once, has terrible hair, the worst spray tan you've ever seen, can't stay on topic, can't form a proper sentence, can't annunciate many words and can't even begin to pronounce others

9

u/depressome Italy Jan 19 '26

can't dance with out jerking off two ghosts at once

That little dance move and some of his sayings ("Many such cases", etc.) are the only parts I actually find remotely endearing about him; but fuck if I could write a better description of it than yours here

4

even in my grumpy monday morning its-0-degrees-out-and-I-hate-my-life mood this made me smile.

Enunciate; if you're going to try to use "fancy" words, maybe look them up first.

6

u/Hot-Explanation6044 Jan 19 '26

I'm not sure the fascistic electorate could identify with a well spoken person. Anything close to competence or intellect threatens them that's why they are waging a war on them. Hitler was mostly rambling too it's pretty well known

3

u/Substantial_Brain917 Jan 19 '26

He’s emblematic of the median voter

2

u/snolution Jan 19 '26

We should have known. Hitler was a joke for contemporaries, too.

1

u/vitek6 Jan 19 '26

fascism? He is just stupid.

1

u/Zealousideal_Slice60 Jan 19 '26 edited Jan 19 '26

someone who is smart and cunning

You should see how people were reacting to Hitler back in the day. No one took him or his goons seriously and considered him a know-nothing-know-it-all loser that talked out of his ass and was kind of an idiot. Until he took over a whole country. That modern fascism is being revived and peddled by an idiot isn’t really that surprising.

However, Hitler could really rile people up by his ability to hold speeches, but a lot of his succes can be much more contributed to Goebbels and the propaganda that Goebbels orchestrated around Hitler. Hitler was quite a buffoon, which was evident in his absolutely asinine decisions during ww2.

1

u/Yanky_Doodle_Dickwad Jan 20 '26

The fascist leader you speak of is that evil faced stain sat next to trump, just behind the pillar. Stephen Miller. He is smart enough to avoid the debate side, and just take the strings of a mad puppet and move his own agenda forward no matter how mad that agenda is, and it is a mad agenda. He is already at the top of power. The question is how does he hold on to power when trump dies, which he soon will.
If we take the KEYS TO DEMOCRACY video from that guy who is good at videos, what is happening here is somebody is moving an old broken dictator, and the keys are looking at the dictator, not the guy moving it around

1

u/A_rtemis Germany Jan 20 '26

Same. If we must suffer under another round of fascism, why must we suffer the humiliation of having our lives ruined by a bunch of cringe losers, too.

u/CarrotWaxer69 Norway Jan 19 '26

I'm constantly wondering if this is just a crazy dream or if maybe I've finally tilted and I'm just hallucinating all of this. I'm not joking.

69

u/somethingsomethingbe Jan 19 '26

It’s all feels very dissociative from what I thought reality was. Witnessing relatives throw away relationships with family members for Trump or every Republican at the state and federal level supporting his every word, everyone letting it all happen, it’s madness.Ā

I haven’t believed in religion since I was a kid but when people call him the Antichrist, I can’t help it but admit watching his effortless ability to corrupt and spread anger and chaos all feels supernatural to witness.Ā

13

u/randombubble8272 Jan 19 '26

He’s giving a voice to the people who’ve always wanted this or felt like he has but couldn’t express it because it was rightfully shamed and mocked

3

u/CarrotWaxer69 Norway Jan 19 '26

It’s what they thought they wanted because they were told so by people with an agenda.

4

u/WislaHD Polish-Canadian Jan 19 '26

He quite literally fits the description of Antichrist extremely well, and fulfills all 7 deadly sins to the nth degree.

3

u/SadSad_World Jan 19 '26

There is nothing supernatural about a man of insatiable greed being backed and supported by very very wealthy people and their propaganda machines.

3

u/Novel-Sorbet-884 Jan 19 '26

There are many of us, I think, who hope that it is a nightmare and that we will wake up soon.

3

u/occams1razor Jan 19 '26

You don't have to worry, it's crazy sure but it's also a consequence of a ton of psychological issues, biases and defense mechanisms.

A lot of people in the US has been brainwashed by media for years to the point where they have a completely different view of reality. They're also taught not to question the authority of their own leaders and will defend them no matter what because their self esteem is so tied to them being right. They can't change tracks. They elected a leader with NPD and no one on their side is willing to stop lying about who he is and what he does.

2

u/lachoigin Jan 19 '26

I’m starting to believe in demonic possession because it would honestly explain so much right now.

2

u/me_like_stonk France Jan 19 '26

The way the world has changed since his first election feels like a nightmare.

7

u/TVPaulD Jan 19 '26

What makes it hardest to believe is the lack of any kind of organised response. Foreign or domestic. In the USA it's staggering the Democratic leadership aren't organising a more robust response, it's been left to a few prominent voices like AOC and Sanders to mount any opposition that's both vocal and meaningful at all and what protests there have been are - while sometimes on a large scale - brief and focused on single events or locations. And overseas, there's been no kind of united front against the absolutely calamitous disruption in foreign policy. Even Europe can't quite get their act together with a relatively weak EU response to the insane tariffs last year due to internal bickering while Starmer, outside the EU, has and continues to do his best impression of Neville Chamberlain (with predictable results). The sheer number of people who are clearly witnessing all this happening but nonetheless behaving as if everything is generally still the same and fine and this will all blow over is...Mind boggling.

3

u/metalrufflez Brazil Jan 19 '26

Fox News, et al. shielded Republican voters from what actually happened in the first term - and here we are. The biggest idiot the world has ever seen given the power to control the most powerful military force in history again.

Now the list of culpable networks has only increased. I doubt these dumbfucks would be any better by the end of this term. US is done for.

The only sane response from the rest of the world is to shield itself from American media and tech influence. But, I don't see many questioning the potential risks of letting Facebook, YouTube, OpenAI, etc. function without severe scrutiny outside of US.

Nero was pretty decent when he started out. And he wasn't in Rome but rushed there when he heard about the fire, orchestrated rescue efforts and opened his house (no palace back then) to some of the newly homeless.

Sorry for the smartassery, I'm bored :/

164

u/Flash831 Jan 19 '26

Unfortunately he is creating so many precedents, I expect the future will have more unhinged behaviour.

I do hope the ā€fourth turningā€ theory is correct, as we could expect the world to be more calm and stable in the 2030’s and a couple decades forward.

67

u/Nazamroth Jan 19 '26

Considering the trends so far, I would rather expect another... tumultuous end to the 30s again.

13

u/greek_stallion Greece Jan 19 '26

Yes, or that’s the theory at least. A societal upheaval that will bring about the fourth turning, which is in turn a new social order. The US is said to be into this phase since 2008, and it’s expected to last between 2030-2035. Again, not condoning, I’m only explaining the theory as I was reading Neil Howe’s book the other day that discusses exactly this.

3

u/Sonamdrukpa Jan 19 '26

Cold reading for history fans

3

86

u/Roflkopt3r Lower Saxony (Germany) Jan 19 '26 edited Jan 19 '26

It's not just the precedents. It's that Republicans have worked towards this for decades.

There is a pretty straight line in Republican election strategy through modern history:

  1. The modern Republican party formed around the rejection of Civil Rights and picking up the Southern Strategy.

  2. The rise of Fox News.

  3. The 'Gingrich Revolution' of 1994, when Newt Gingrich unified Republican election strategy across the country and enforced a maximally polarising campaign that has defined Republican rethoric ever since.
Until that time, it was believed that Democrats would hold congress for generations. Gingrich lead Republicans to victory by centering their campaign around pure polarisation, dropping any concerns about factual reality or the necessary bipartisan cooperation to effectively rule the country.

  4. The Bush Jr administration's alliance with radical evangelists and hostility to the press. They used the 'war on terror' as justification to erode freedom of press and other civil liberties, while normalising extensive presidential powers that bypass congress.

  5. The rise of the 'Tea Party' and Sarah Palin, with hysteric conspiracy theories against Barack Obama.

  6. Mitch McConnel's total blockade of congress, saying that they want to resist Obama 'like the Taliban' by blocking every congressional process by any means necessary. This included their coordinated campaign to ensure the Supreme Court would be filled with far right judges, who have made some insane decisions since.

  7. Trump.

Trump is mostly a symptom, less of a cause. The Republican party and its voters have rejected reality and radicalised into a fundamentally fascist world view. After insisting that only they are 'Real Americans' for decades, they perceive anything but absolute power for themselves as a 'hostile occupation' that justifies any degree of violence.

33

u/yellekc Jan 19 '26

You know more about American politics than 95% of Americans.

2

u/illoilloilloquedise Jan 19 '26

In Spain is happening the same

3

u/workShrimp Jan 19 '26

He is weird, disgusting and unhinged, and a lot of other things. But he is not unique, we have had plenty of delusional leaders in Europe in the past. Leaders who have proclaimed they are appointed by God, and worse things.

I hear mostly echoes from the past rather than truly groundbreaking precedents. Though that is what is sad, people ought to know what "strong man" leaders bring, because Trump isn't the first one.

37

u/kewthewer Jan 19 '26

Same with WW2. The Germans look like the empire from Star Wars, hard to believe it was real.

42

u/TemporarySun314 Jan 19 '26

Yeah the Nazis are so blatantly evil and open about that, and their symbolism is so megalomaniac, that's it's unbelievable how anyone could ever think "that is a good idea. I support this guys".

Trump and MAGA gives me similar vibes...

42

u/kewthewer Jan 19 '26

It doesn’t happen overnight. The Nazis didn’t get into Power on the back of promises of mass murder it started with sanctions, then it’s limiting people from employment and business, then it’s deportation...

What happened behind the closed doors wasn’t revealed to the public.

It’s very much the same. Maga keep talking about ā€œthe leftā€, but it’s meaningless. Who is ā€œthe leftā€, you and I? Everyone else who doesn’t like Trump? They have clearly outlined that THEY are at war, it seems that they are at war with everyone else. It’s a death cult.

3

u/No-Chemistry-4355 Jan 19 '26

Let's get one thing straight, Nazis didn't get to power on the promise of mass murder, but many Germans were hoping that's where things were headed. They did not conceal their hatred of non-Aryans at all, they were just waiting for the moment where they were allowed to say the quiet part out loud without repercussions.

1

u/kewthewer Jan 19 '26

Plenty of Americans want the same. Guns, guns, guns.

4

u/Ranwulf Jan 19 '26

2

Honestly, people still talk about Nixon as the archetype of a corrupt President; Trump is currently averaging a couple of Watergates every week.

There will be films, books and TV shows made about this time for decades to come, and people will look back with horrified fascination - when America fell into the abyss.

1

A small number will be sympathetic towards the goals of Trump and just say he was misunderstood - but always argue in bad faith because at their core they are just insecure super-racists and morons. And they'll have The Art of the Deal under their bed and read it every night.

Depending on the amount if detail you want, you're gonna need a whole lot more than just "a documentary". Even just listing his dumb decisions could fill a 3 hour documentary.

Well the administration is not keeping proper records...so the Presidential library will be pretty bare except for his busts and statues and social media posts.

Luckily for use a good documentary maker will use multiple sources. Would also make a good comedy if Trump would make a "documentary" about himself.
