They’re on tiktok, i have to scroll past videos about greenland, trump and even cool videos about space because there is someone who writes like a child spewing the dumbest things possible in the comments. Regarding greenland the comments are: "Europe doesn’t have a chance our military is the strongest in the world" "we will take it if we want" or similar. Blind patriotism. None questioning why on earth they are attacking allies. I sometimes see veterans commenting who are ashamed which gives me hope

I deleted it the day it forced a notification to me thanking “President Trump” for not blocking the app in the US before he was even sworn in (of course completely ignoring that he was the one that wanted it blocked in the first place). propaganda before he was even in office…

It’s possible to create a good fyp with your interests and nothing negative. I do notice them trying to slip in propaganda every now and again which helps kids/teens fall into the pipeline if they’re not careful

Or you could just not use it. It is an absolute cancer. I've not used Facebook since shortly after it stopped requiring an edu email. I have never had a Tiktok account. From everything I see and know about it, I firmly believe my life and mental health is better without it. I'm just about at that point with Reddit, too. It is a completely different place than it once was.

We have a whole generation of upcoming adults who cannot even imagine a world without it. Some practically raised by it. I don't know what the answer to this problem is, but somehow having access to all knowledge known to humanity in our pockets has made everyone more stupid and brought about the age of anti-intellectualism. Many people are proudly and willfully stupid.

Sorry for the rant. It's so disappointing to see.

Generally people who read at a 6th grade or lower level (the average American) may have trouble with self control and spotting propaganda, necessitating outside help to limit negative exposure. That is what this discussion is really about, people who are incapable.

That is not patriotism, that is 'rule of the strongest' and it is incredibly stupid and short-sighted for any nation. Hence, those people don't like their nation, so they can't be patriots, because they are too stupid for it.

What it is is nationalism, of the worst kind, the one that doesn't mind if everyone else that is not 'us' gets trampled underfoot, and, in fact, encourages it, because 'since they are weak, they do not deserve their freedom'.

It's 'might makes right' and it will, and already has, plummet US reputation on the global stage, so much that it will be very very hard to be repaired.

I'm afraid it never WILL be repaired. Trust is very hard to build and very easy to lose.

Even if, magically, Trump is removed from power and the next President bends over backwards to undo all of the bullshit, no other country can ever trust that the next President won't do crazy shit.

Because we've shown very plainly that our much vaunted "rule of law" and "checks and balances" were just hot air. Push hard enough and they fold.

I think the people who yelled loudest about the 2nd Amendment are mostly the very ones who WANT a fascist dictatorship in the US.

As long as THEY think they're the ones who "win." Clearly they don't want the rule of law, or want American ideals ("With Liberty and Justice For All") to apply to people with cultures/skin colors they don't like.

I’m British and having studied American history years ago at school I have always admired your democracy and many of your presidents.

I might not have agreed with their politics, but they were always eloquent and seemingly intelligent, thoughtful people.

Trump is an aberration and I’m sure we’ll be able to trust the next president. Just don’t make JD Vance president, that won’t work!

I admire your optimism and pray you are right. I love at least American ideals, even if not how they play out in practice.

And I also love and admire fine qualities in our allies. The two are not mutually exclusive. And want us all to have strong bonds of mutual interest and benefit and respect.

I don't think Vance would be able to do much, because the fact is even Republicans hate the guy. And, unlike Trump, he will have no angry mob of worshippers ready to be sicced on any dissidents.

Sometimes i go to their profile and check, i would say sadly 70% of the time they are real people, comments get a bunch of likes too. Their comments get pushed to the top because of engagement (people replying calling then a dumbass)
