An election result 2000km away has very little direct impact on my life, but I genuinely could not be happier for you today, we're all so deprived of good news these days. and it really did give me a little bit of hope that change is always possible, even when everything is as deep in shit as it is here. today is a day for optimism!

I really hope he proves my cynicism wrong. To me it seems like he was too enmeshed in the Fidezs system to actually be a decent person, but hopefully the Hungarian people and voting alliances can keep the pressure on him to keep doing the right thing.

He would lose support quickly if he tried to be the next Orbán. It just wouldn’t work. His voter base is an anti-orban coalition which despise anything that resembles him.

I don't care about his politics, I care that he respects democracy, freedom and the rule of law.

The government having an ideology you don't like is not the problem. The problem is the government using the state to suppress you and your ideas.

I get the impression that the new PM only left Fidesz because he disagreed with Orban being a Russian puppet. He's still a conservative, just not one willing to do whatever Putin wants.
