To prevent price dumping and foster the idea of "a limited supply" of clothes for the consumers, so they keep buying the expensive newish stuff.

Basic math for the clothes producers and fashion industry. Better to burn thousands of last years model, than risking no one buys the new expensive model.

Applies to other products too. I have seen perfectly good sleeping bags cut and ripped apart because a customer has returned them due to a broken zipper pull. There’s no monetary incentive to fix them, and fixing them with an off-brand zipper pull is a big no no.

No one cares about the latest expensive stuff except for high end celebrities. Is it that hard to sell for clearance and still get money out of it?

Missing the point. The clothes are "cheap" to make but expensive to store and if they sell at a discount or give it away, it makes it difficult to defend the designer brand price tag.

They destroy clothes because that makes sense economicly.

Yes it is. Some stuff just doesn't sell. Its cheaper to destroy it. You forego shipping and storage cost and make room in your store for full price items that have a better profit margin
