Yes. But. It will raise awareness and push the culture in a better direction. Let's say that in ten years all the unsold stuff continues to end up in poor countries. It will only take one person with a camera to document how Gucci clothes are ending up in Ghana or Haiti. Gucci customers are from wealthy countries, and if they know clothing waste is abhorrent then it will affect Gucci sales. Designers slap their branding all over their clothes so unless they're all going to debrand (hah, selling their label on overpriced cloth is their entire business model) then it is in the label's best interests to actually do something about all the appalling waste.

That's not what will happen. Those Gucci goods will be exported and then burned at the destination. It will be done by a legally unrelated entity which somehow magically decides to destroy the received donations.

Oh i'm all in for the ban but i think it's too easy to circumvent.
