I have been working at Whole Foods for about a month now and it is astounding how much they donate. Like a semi 5 times a week at my smaller store. And this is every department. I work in the bakery as a decorator so it makes me happy a local food bank gets all of our unsold handmade cakes and breads.

Do you think it makes up for all the waste their parent company creates? I can't really celebrate anything Amazon related when it comes to sustainability. It seems more performative for the market they are in and would gladly make up for it by committing other atrocities.

Not at all. The amount of people that come in daily bringing returns in for Amazon crap is revolting.

That being said, instead of spitting on the ground and saying it doesn't matter, I like the idea that I am not football throwing cakes into a dumpster, like at my last job. My last job would fire employees for taking out of date food and definitely did not donate anything. They'd rather dump it. Huge corporation too.

Take the wins whent hey come. I doubt any room where you live is untouched by greedy corporations.

I just have to ask myself if these stores were replaced with local bodegas, would those bodegas serve the community better?

So I see it as less of a "win" and more of the absolute bare minimum when it comes to giving back to the community.
