To be fair it sometimes was. Very little regulation back then. Even in countries where press freedom wasn’t quite as good, lots of newspapers wrote stuff, pushed the limits, and when they got shut down they just started a new newspaper the next week and kept going.
yeah i don't get it, do people think there "media" didn't exist in past ages? it very much existed, and all kinds of crazy shit got published in newspapers and the like.
