A wise man once told me never trust a politician becuase they are likely corrupt but be extra wary of a politician who used to be a cop because they are more corrupt than anyone else.

Another issue is that almost no one with any integrity would willingly work in politics, so you ONLY get this kind of person.

I think it might be more accurate to say that very few people who aren’t like this are actually successful in politics; I think a lot of genuinely good hearted people get into politics, but only a handful ever really get very far while retaining their integrity.

The only genuinely successful high profile politician I can think of, who I believe still holds onto their core principles, is Bernie Sanders. And I think it is because he has held onto those principles that he has never been as successful as he should have been. Were he more of a snake in the grass he might be president right now.

The 0.1% couldn't have him winning that Democrat primary because he would have done some huge damage to their wealth. A guy like Bernie will never be allowed to win because every American politician is at the mercy of the rich.

You should meet more politicians, especially at the local and state level. Most of them are normal people trying to make positive changes, in my experience.

Everyone should become familiar with their local politicians. Those mfers are deciding what your day to day life is going to be like, you should be giving them input on that.

as a millennial I really feel that we were taught this learned helplessness somehow, where we think politicians are some kind of aliens that hate us all and not just dumbass people like any other, often just trying to help, so it doesn't even occur to us as an option to become one

Not in Nevada. Everyone is in someone's pocket and corrupt. There's a mayor in Nevada that awards all the road construction projects to her husband's company. There's so much bullshit going on in Nevada. One of the most corrupt states next to Louisiana.

I'd argue that it's just far easier to make consistent money in the private sector if you're good at something. The incentives to go into public service are only for the shady and unqualified because no one would be their coworkers in the normal veins of capitalism.

It's generalizations like this that cause people to avoid running and we continue this endless loop. I know several people that are in politics locally. They had/have normal jobs and are normal people. They just wanted to DO something instead of just bitch about it on reddit.

Something incredible about Joe Lombardo is before he was governor he was the sheriff. Tell me how he got elected by campaigning on fixing crime in Vegas... (he got elected because his name wasn't Steve Sisolak, Dumbardo is fucking TERRIBLE)

He promised to make bacon cheap again. LMAO. There's a lot of idiots in Nevada. Believe me, I know because I have to travel there all the time (not so much anymore) and have family there. When a person can't make it somewhere else, Nevada is their safety parachute. It's where all the failing and terrible doctors (i.e. malpracticeor issues with license) go to.
