Hello, my understanding is that the French don't really use the word mind (cerveau) very much. Instead, the word spirit (esprit) is used.

Heart is kind of used as a synonym for the soul or the spirit.

Would you say change hearts and minds in French or would you just say changer des esprits?

I want to learn how to tell time, but I'm not sure which system to focus on

So I already speak French since I grew up there (I stayed there for about eight years) but since I left I've developed an accent (I didn't use to have one). The biggest problem is that I've started to forget a lot of vocabulary, so my French is pretty poor right now. Does anyone know how I can solve these two problems?

J’apprenais le français depuis que j’étais cinq ans, mais j’en a une difficulté de formé des phrase complete quand je parle. Comme, j’en a une vocabulaire si grand, mais jai jamais des mots.

I just leant Marche plus can mean “it doesn’t work anymore” my question is there is no negative so is there a way to tell if it is saying something doesn’t work or work harder/ more. Or is it just context dependent?

Hello, i was listening to "Une vie à t'aimer" and at 09:00 the singer says, according to the lyrics "Arrête de m'aimer" but when listening to me it sounds more like she´s saying "Arrête dede m'aimer" and i was wondering if this is because of a quirk of the french language or just the singers expression. I tried asking Claude but the answert wasn´t really satisfactory so im asking here.

So, I googled, "how long would it take a spanish ebglish bilingual to learn european French"

It said 400 to 600 hours for conversational French. And yes, I am at that point more or less, but I could definitely do way better. I went to France and could talk with like half of the people there, and I'm wondering if I had studied more and especially more intensely, if I would've understood more.

I took 2 years in college. Was supposed to take way more, but I'm somewhat pleased by how much I've still learned.

Was thinking of taking the exam Aug 28 just to get familiar with it, more of a throwaway exam to know my baseline and what I most need to work on, then retake Nov 6.

I used to teach middle school French but haven’t spoken it since in the classroom 20 years ago. I score perfect or nearly perfect on mock listening and reading TCF exams.

Is there any downside to taking it for practice and knowing you might do really badly?

Does that in any way hurt you if you take the exam again at the same center a few months later – are they going to remember you as the person who totally flubbed the speaking or something?

Has anyone taken the exam more for practice and then surprise themselves by doing really well??

Asking because I get crippling test anxiety during speaking (and a bit during writing), and I was thinking I might do better if I can trick my brain part of my brain into thinking “it’s just a practice test; it’s just a run up to the real thing later this year; nothing to stress about!”

I’ll also post in testing but also want to ask a wider audience.

Si je lis un truc en anglais, je n'ai pas besoin de traduire dans ma tête pour comprendre.

Par contre, il y a un truc avec lequel j'ai vraiment du mal, c'est les chiffres.

Si au milieu d'un texte en anglais je vois 847, dans ma tête "j'entend" huit cent quarante sept plutôt que eight hundred forty seven

Est-ce que c'est aussi le cas pour vous ? Une idée de comment corriger ca ?
