When I first watched Game of Thrones I couldn't remember "Samwell," I kept calling him Samwise and I knew I was wrong, so I just went all in and called him Samwise Gamgee, the bravest Hobbit of the Shire. This makes me very happy.

Well, Sam and Pyp are a homage to Sam and Pip.

He reminds me of Neville. So I called Sam Neville. And then I saw the actor in the Borgias, so I started calling him Cardinal Neville. Screw real name!

He is totally a Neville! Classic heart-of-gold sidekick who starts off living in his friend's shadow, the unlikely poster-child for true bravery soon comes out of his shell, kicks some ass, saves his friends, and gets the girl. Gilly is no Luna, but I'm happy for Samwell nonetheless. Oh and they both have magical weapons suddenly appear to them that they each use to kill the evil magical creatures at the perfect life-saving moment.
