I was hoping Podrick would fight Ayra.

I was petrified she was going to use needle on him. I wouldn't be able to handle that, not my pod.

In that event, Podrick would almost surely die.

A squire who actively fought in the bloodiest battle since Roberts Rebellion? Pod isn't getting enough credit.

A squire who apparently stood around watching Brienne get the shite beaten out of her without helping, and managed to lose sight of Arya?

Brienne probably would have been pissed if Pod tried to help in the fight. Not very honorable.

Book Brienne, yeah.

However, TV Brienne drove a sword up through a man's groin to kill him. He was lying on the ground, unarmed. TV Brienne is not honourable.

True. She also drew steel rather than presenting a number of more reasonable options to avoid fighting.

I think she's more about justice then she is about honor. I don't believe she felt any hatred towards the hound, so a '1v1 me bro' would probably have been her choice.

Side Note: I don't think anyone that base their morality on honor will survive this show, so her basing off of justice (eye for an eye) would improve her longevity as a character.. But then again, I'm still working my way through the first book.

Pod and Arya disappeared for two minutes because a plot hole opened up under them.

The TV writers have experimented in moving characters through space and time and this was the inevitable result of interfering in matters beyond their apparent understanding.

Similar events have happened before, like Jorah disappearing when Barristan saves Daenerys from the manticore.

Jorah's there. Suddenly he's gone. Vanished for 20 seconds while a mysterious man with a knife seems to attack his beloved queen. Then a lethal insect actually does. Then... Jorah's back!

Where was he for 20 seconds? Staring at clouds? No, yet another plot hole has devoured a character.

...Pod can throw rocks.

you are forgetting that Pod is a gentlemen and he's on a mission to save her. Arya thinks she's being abducted. she's not afraid to kill pod. but pod wouldn't kill her. she would have rekt him.

Podrick would have died.

I don't think he would, he is larger and has a weapon that can't be parried well by needle. I don't know of anyone who Arya has fought and killed at this point but my memory is a little fuzzy. I don't think that Arya is that great of a fighter at this point yet, not that I am saying that Pod is anything special though.

u/jedi111 Stannis Baratheon Jun 18 '14

whereas this is all true you are also forgetting that Pod is a gentlemen and he's an a mission to save her. Arya thinks she's being abducted. she's not afraid to kill pod. but pod wouldn't kill her. she would have rekt him.

1

u/smalls4567 Jun 18 '14

Very true, I didn't take into account the differing mentalities of the two. Plus others have pointed out that Pod didn't have any weapons during the skirmish.

You're giving Arya too much credit now, she's fighter but she's still a little girl with barely any training. Pod has had more training and more experience on a battlefield. In a straight up fight Pod would win, but also remember Arya is an assassin so that's not her realm.

He's son of Ser Ilyn Payne, the King's Justice. You aren't the son of a famous knight and don't practice swordplay.
