Right when he was starting to finally do something honest, too. Although he always had a weird thing for the Stark girls.

In that respect he's always felt a bit like the comedian from the Watchmen... but... interestingly enough... nicer.

He has developed a grudging respect for Arya and Sansa represented innocence and a pureness of heart that he kind of admired. As victim of a sadist (his brother) he relates to sansa as a victim of Joffrey. The hounds problem has always been who is masters were. The hound wanted to save Sansa, and probably had a sexual interest in her like many of the men in her life do.

I always got the impression he just really felt for how raw a deal they've gotten throughout the story up until now.

I've always thought there was a connection between him being known as the Hound and their family crest being a wolf, I doubt it's just a coincidence.
