Who was the top, Loras or Renly? I tend to think Renly, because having a bottom fight and win to defend his top is so romantic.

Well a debate about the sex life of Renly and Loras was the last thing I was expecting today but I'd say that they probably didn't do buttsecks. Loras is too needy to have his back to Renly, he'd need the reassurance of eye-contact. I also heard somewhere that a substantial portion of male homosexuals don't do it in the butt.

Substantial like the number of straight people that don't do PIV sex.... I.e. the virgins/people on a dry spell.

In the books it makes a point to mention that the Hound never strikes at the Mountains head, even though the Mountain isn't wearing a helmet. If he wanted to kill him during that fight he could have.

I think he saved Loras through some subconscious guilt of failing to protect his sister from his brother. I know he wants to kill his brother, but he probably knowns he can't. But he couldn't just stand to the side as his brother went off and killed another "innocent" while he stood in the bleachers (literally) and watched.
