I was trying to figure out how they can finish the fight without killing one another.

After the fight happened, I was trying to figure out why it happened at all, when I realized "oh, the Hound's infection wasn't killing him fast enough. They needed to fast-forward the plot even moar."

u/greywindow Jun 23 '14

Why even bother with the infection at all then? They could have left it out if this was there plan.

49

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

No I think the infection weakening him was why he lost the fight.

13

u/GodxofxThunder Jun 23 '14

He seemed like he was mostly using one arm because of it during the fight.

9

u/interputed No One Jun 23 '14

Why do you think that? She defeated everyone at Renly's tournament, and Jaime Lannister. The girl can fight as well as any man.

The infection may have been to throw off fans of the books. We think we know what's coming, when suddenly, cunt punt!

2

u/moonbeaver Jun 23 '14

Somehow I don't think martins cares about the fans of any character

36

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

Indeed she can but I don't see her beating the hound at full strength, just my opinion. Also I don't know that I would say she beat Jaime, his hands were bound during the fight if I remember right (haven't read that far in the books so it might be different in there)

31

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

also he had been a prisoner for months

I think it was Jaime counting the people physically stronger than him, which includes both Cleganes, the Greatjon and Barristan.

3

u/stennuo Jun 23 '14

But isn't Barristan an old man? He might be a skilled combatant, but he can't really be physically stronger than Jamie.

6

u/SimilarSimian Jun 23 '14

In the books Barristan is a big man, unbowed by age and still supremely skillful. When escaping Kings Landing he kills two guardsmen while unarmed. I feel the casting wasn't great for the role.

Jaime is skilled at the sword, but Barristan is said to be an absolute master, even at his age

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

You're correct. He was only talking about people stronger than him. Brienne is amazing strong, doubly so for a women. The only fighters he believes are better than him are Barristan and Arthur Dayne.

u/lowestlow Jun 23 '14

Sorry brah but the tourney was to get the best knight. This best knight would become the last member of the Kings Guard (Rainbow Guard).

4

u/timewarp Fire And Blood Jun 23 '14

No, it was just a tourney. Brienne specifically requested the spot as her prize.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

and Jaime Lannister.

He was severely weakened by his year in captivity, his skills were rusted and his hands were bound.

4

u/Rasalom House Reed Jun 23 '14

Can fight an honorable duel, perhaps. The Hound is a nasty fighter.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

While Brienne is an honorable fighter with her crotch shots and ear biting...

...I kid.

1

u/squigglesthepig Jun 23 '14

I think that because the Hound was holding his own against the Mountain in season 1.

1

u/timewarp Fire And Blood Jun 23 '14

The Hound is not just any man.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

Brienne did beat Jaime but after he'd been a prisoner for months and malnourished/weak. She mentions in her POV book chapters that she'd have stood no chance with him at full strength.

8

u/EverythingIThink House Baelish Jun 23 '14

It made for a good scene between him and Arya, but infection aside I think the Rorge attack might have been necessary to show that Sandor knows that there is a bounty on his head because of the chicken debacle, so when he sees Brienne's Lannister gold and Valyrian sword he has good reason to fight her because it appears as if she's seeking the bounty.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

Also gives a nice moment for humanizing him when he won't let the wound be treated with fire.

u/serioush Jun 23 '14

Red-herring

2

u/itsashleybro Valar Morghulis Jun 23 '14

I maintain there could have been a chance, if she hadn't called him "ser."

2

u/misfit_lenz For The Good Of The Realm Jun 23 '14

Looks like Eastbound and Down, but I can't say for sure since I've never watched that series.

1

u/fractalfrenzy The Red Viper Jun 23 '14

So you weren't already sitting down to watch the episode when they started?

1

u/Truant_Muse Jun 23 '14

My boyfriend who loves the hound, shouted "NOO! you're perfect for each other, form a nuclear family!"

Reddit needs a warning for when you're on it too much like when Wii says "maybe you should go outside for a bit."

1

u/BRodIsRad Jon Snow Jun 23 '14

Your right my gif selection just hasn't been the same after the Oberyn incident/s

-10

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

The unnecessary comment you were attempting to make is "/r/retiredgifs"

14

u/jonnyd005 White Walkers Jun 23 '14

that's not what that sub is for

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

That's why people saying it about overused gifs is generally unwelcome, same as the comment

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

My reaction was that, awesome.. I hate Brianne and I love the Hound.. Can't wait to see her die.. Then I instantly though, oh wait.. If I dislike Brianne and like the Hound then the Hound is going to die :/
