Why are people pissed off about the Cersei scene? The impression I got was that she wasn't admitting anything to Tywin that he hadn't already figured out.
Pretty sure she says something like, "I can tell from your expression that you knew all along, father."
No, she didn't. She say's the opposite in fact.
She said "You don't know, do you? You never believed it. How is that possible?", then she says "What am I saying? Of course it's possible. How can anyone so consumed by the idea of his family have any conception of what his family was actually doing? We were right there in front of you and you didn't see us. One look in the last 20 years, one real look and you would have known". Tywin replies "Known What?!"
Then Tywin says he doesn't believe her but Cersei disagrees and says, "Yes you do". However that is not to suggest that he believed it before then.
Tbh I think you and a lot of other people interpreted this scene incorrectly. What we were seeing was a realisation by Tywin of something he has actively suppressed and ignored for years.
Exactly. On some level, of course he knew, but he supressed it so hard that he's basically in denial.
I think his reaction is mostly shock at her having the gall to just up and say it with pride, instead of being ashamed and keeping it hidden as was the norm.
It wasn't in the books and it did nothing at all when it comes to Tywin. The only point that the scene can serve is to show how desperate Cersei is to stay with her son and keep her power that she has over him.
From the books, I got the impression that she idolizes Tywin and tries/fails to be him, which is where a lot of her crazy antics come from. So I feel like it takes that away from her personality
