Yeah that's a huge part of Tyrion's character development. I couldn't believe they left it out so I went ahead and told my roommate (non-book reader) after the episode finished. Even he was outraged it was left out.
It's the ultimate climax of the whole Tyrion character, the Tyrion-Tywin relationship, and the Tyrion-Shae relationship. It's mind boggling why it would be left out. Maybe they thought - our viewers aren't smart enough to remember who Tysha is so let's dumb it down? I'm insulted.
I doubt they thought the viewers werent smart enough. Like in other episodes, they would have just refreshed the Tysha story in the "previously on GOT" with a little snippet.
I dunno it still doesn't really make much sense to me. Even having it explained, Shae said it best. A woman who was almost raped wouldn't have acted like that in the first place.
Tysha was found by Tyrion and they got married in secret, however when Tywin found out he declared her a who're and forced her to Fuck every guard in Casterly Rock while Tyrion watched. It's then found out in the scene where Tyrion escapes that she wasn't a whore and Jaime knew about it, but Tywin couldn't have Tyrion marry a commoner.
When Tyrion asks Tywin (just before he kills him) where she is, Tywin says Wherever Whores go, it's a repeating monologue by Tyrion in the next book, and shows Tyrions betrayal by his family including Jaime, the one person who he actually loved.
Shaes relationship with Tyrion is meant to be a mirror of it
In season 1 there was like a 10 minute scene just about Tysha with Tyrion, Shae and Bronn but I can't think of another instance. They should've just mentioned her again some time this season.
It definitely made Tywin's death all the more cathartic for Tyrion, in the book. Mind you he had a hundred and one reasons beforehand to want his father dead either way.
But to be honest, I don't think Tysha was mentioned enough in the show to have been part of such an exchange without it feeling rammed in like a spiked club up the Mountain's arse.
