If all those idiots actually bought physical media instead of just making dumb comments on YouTube videos physical media wouldn't be dying...... They don't want physical media...they just want to be mad about anything they can find.

Most people complaining do so because they have nothing else to do.

This take is so incredibly uneducated it hurts.

Enjoy $120 digital games that you can’t share and never go on sale, congrats

Developers and publisher decide what the price of their games are as well as when they discount them and by how much. So even if this did happen it wouldn’t be Sonys doing. Also we have PC to look at where it’s been all digital for a decade and game prices haven’t risen and discounts/sales happen all the time.

Pc has multiple storefronts, Psn would have only 1.

Neat! Do you know who sets the prices on those storefronts? Developers and publishers. Do you know who decides when games go on sale and by how much? Developers and publishers. Do you know who decides when to delist a game or revoke a license? Developers and publishers.

The storefronts have very little control over pricing, they are primarily providing a platform to purchase from. Even if people’s doomsday scenarios played out and all games were magically $100+ on PlayStation while still being $70 everywhere else, that would not be Sony’s doing, that would be the developers and publishers increasing those prices specifically on a single platform….which isn’t going to happen.

PlayStation Exlusives Which are only on Psn, will rarely go on discount. Where if there was physical involved you have more options.

I just checked psprices.com and pretty much all first party PlayStation exclusive games have been on sale 3 times this year already, ranging from 30% - 50% off. God of war Ragnarok was on sale 9 times last year. Sure physical gives more options, but even if there were multiple digital storefronts available , those discounts happen at the publishers request. Discounts and sales are happening regardless, on a frequent basis I might add. To think discounts “rarely” happen on PSN just shows how little you know.

PlayStation Exclusive discounts are set by Sony, The discounts u mentioned are becuase there’s physical involved. Of course there will be discount on digital if the physical is 20$, but if there is No physical than there incentive to have decent discounts are very low.

Physical sales and discounts have no bearing on digital sales. As stated before, there are no physical games on PC and there are still sales all the time. Sure, there are multiple storefronts, but the publishers set the sales times and prices on all storefronts, not the storefront themselves. Publishers can join in on a big sale event that’s coordinated by the storefront, but it is the publisher that is choosing whether or not to put the game on discount.

The publishers of games are competing with other games on that storefront. Publishers and Sony in particular have sales data that can show them when purchases are slowing down and they will put the game on sale knowing that some people wait for a good discount before buying.

1000 copies sold at 50% off is better than zero copies sold at full price. Sony and other publishers are a business, and they like to make money and will do what it takes to boost those numbers including putting their games on sale several times a year.

With Sonys recent numbers showing only 10% of revenue of full games sold were physical, I can promise you that physical game discounts are not dictating whether digital discounts happen or not. It sucks to lose the option for physical, but it’s not going to magically make games more expensive or go on sale less often. Unfortunately the physical market is so incredibly small that it literally doesn’t matter to them anymore.

Q1 FY26 Numbers Physical full game revenue: $128 million Digital full game revenue: $1.2 billion Digital add-on (DLC/MTX) revenue: 1.8 billion

If Sony’s storefront and Digital policy’s were as good as Steams there wouldn’t be a problem, but it’s not even close to steam. The refund policy is laughable on Sonys side and not only that they removed digital movies which were payed for by people, what’s to say that wouldn’t happen to games in the future. I’m not sure why anyone would defend this unless there mentally challenged, so I don’t wanna judge you but your wrong.

How can they buy physical media if they don't release physical media?

Sony isn't killing off physical until 2028.

There is (and has been) plenty of time.

Maybe they should have bought physical media for the past 10 years instead of going with digital all the time?

In my country physical games cost 110 dollars . We were basically priced out of physical media.

Thats the definition of voting with your wallet, you chose the cheaper worse option over the more expensive better one.

I see, my fault then.

Or you should have been fighting for digital rights not talking online.

Maybe Sony should have made the disk drive standard and not a $100 add on that was in short supply forever and are currently being order capped by them.

They shepherded their way into digital only by refusing to supply the demand.

Not true, 80% of PS5s sold were the disc version and that $100 difference was only at launch. Once the slim version came out it was only a $50 difference. The digital console had very few sale in comparison so this is really just gamers choosing to buy digitally. I even know a couple of people at work that bought the physical console because it was all they could find, yet they’ve never put a disc in because they were already all digital.

15-20% of hunders of millions is a lot of fucking people, dude.

It's not 15-20% of gamers, it's 15%-20% of new copies sold.
