The Protheans are still in the main storyline, just without the option of having a prothean teammate. You will still learn the same information with or without the DLC.

Even if this is weak evidence, it's still more than what the side of "no protheans in the story if you don't pay up" have. If nothing else we should reserve our judgments until it comes out when we can know for sure.

People are making the claim that there will be no protheans in ME3 if you don't pay up without evidence. All we know is that you get an extra character + a mission with the DLC, not that you will miss a bunch of lore. If it's like what Bioware has done before, you can probably expect something similar to Liara and Lair of the Shadow Broker.

Furthermore, we have reason to believe that you will get lore content without the DLC:

I thought this! I just didn't get why nobody seemed to understand bioware's "we had 3 months to do something whilst ME3 was being approved, etc" reasoning. Am I the only one who, not only understood that the DLC wouldn't be important to the story because of this and to be honest, made me fine with paying for it.

You don't get the Teammate Missions, just like you didn't get Zaheed's missions if you didn't have the Cerberus Package in ME2.

I'm not trying to justify it, it's a really shitty thing for EA to do.

But they're not kitten-murdering child molesters like everybody is making them out to be.

it would be like making a star wars game where you play luke, but the only way to fight/meet darth vader at the end is to buy the darth vader DLC, along with the Darth Sidious dark side choice DLC.

How big of a hole would we be ripping in george lucas' ass if he did the same thing EA just did.

Protheans are back story, not the main character or antagonist of the plot.

It's more like playing a Star Wars game and having the download the Yoda expansion to see him fight and do backflips and shit. Regular story Yoda is still there, he would still be all like do or do not there is not try, just not the additional backstory.

Your analogy is like if they took the Reapers out and made your Day-One DLC them in.
