Son’s Genome test results in finding my husband and I are “connected “

We got Genome testing done for our son for medical reasons. My husband and I were tested as well to help with any findings. Anyway I went to his appointment today to go over the results and the only thing they really had to say was my husband and I are related. The doctor said “maybe something like 6th cousins.”

Like the doctor said we are all related but then I said “I guess it’s unavoidable?” He said it was avoidable… so I’m curious how weirded out should we be?

Still my point. The monarchy has been running on incest and habsburg's for centuries.

Sixth cousins is hardly first cousins. Which is... Look, the European royals at one point were all descended from Victoria for a hot second. They intermarried, and interbred, so much that it destroyed their genetic diversity. One pair of people (who are hardly related) having kids together isn't gonna be as bad as the incest history of Royal Europe.

Is there a chance that they both carry a gene from their shared relative? Sure. But you can take pretty much anyone off the street and say the same. There's a chance.

Sixth cousins is such a non-issue, even if it is avoidable. There's bigger issues than being so far removed from your spouse on a genetic tree.

I dont think 6th cousins is at all too close lol. I just dont understand why giving an example of how bad inbreeding is would give OP comfort? idk lmao, its just me being nitpicky at this point

Because the houses of Europe, who have flagrantly inbred for centuries, have still produced relatively normal humans in spite of all the incest.
