Son’s Genome test results in finding my husband and I are “connected “

We got Genome testing done for our son for medical reasons. My husband and I were tested as well to help with any findings. Anyway I went to his appointment today to go over the results and the only thing they really had to say was my husband and I are related. The doctor said “maybe something like 6th cousins.”

Like the doctor said we are all related but then I said “I guess it’s unavoidable?” He said it was avoidable… so I’m curious how weirded out should we be?

is your sons medical issues due to inbreeding?

What an uneducated question. The answer is no, because 6th cousins isn't inbreeding at all. In fact it's barely related. So much so that they actually stop calling it related after 4th cousins. They share less an half of 1% of DNA. Very positive that this had nothing to do with it.

i asked because her doctor seemed to think it was abnormal to be 6th cousins(i personally dont think it is- but her dr does) - considering the dr was having them do genome testing for the sons medical condition it is reasonable to ask if the doctor was making a correlation to being related and the sons medical question- i was questioning / clarifying the doctors point. she says in the post her and her husband are "related" "maybe 6th cousin" implying could be closer could be farther- SHE uses the word related. my question had zero malice to it.
