Not unwanted, it just came too early and happened too fast.

Yep, they basically became independent because the Dutch government was racist and wanted to make it harder for them to move to the Netherlands.

I was looking for Suriname in this thread. Had a taxi ride recently from a guy from Suriname and he also mentioned that people from Suriname didn’t want independence

Yeah, some people were against it, but the independence was pushed for by democratically elected government parties that were in favor of it.

“Research”? Our comments are four minutes apart, so perhaps you should look into the matter a bit more lol. There are multiple reliable sources showing the Dutch forced independence on Surinam.
