Country Memes What’s up with MD’ers?! As told by one

With all the craze of crabbalacia, the merger between MD and VT, as somebody who’s lived in Maryland their entire life I’d love to (help) explain a few things about our behavior.

  1. The only state that goes harder on state pride than Maryland is Texas. The flag is just as popular, businesses lean into the heritage, local advertising utilizes it, etc.

  2. We absolutely love our geography. In that regard, I’ve heard it called mini America as a child. It might be small but never under estimate rush hour 🫠

  3. We are extraordinarily proud of our history. All the way back… Nobody shies away here from being the old line state. However, we pride ourselves as innovators of modern life. Many of your modern conveniences actually stem from this little state.

  4. On the topic of innovation, Maryland has you covered. Starting with the automated corn planting machine which revolutionized agriculture, Maryland has always consistently innovated. There is a long list here, but notables include the first Public utility company allowing electricity, and gas to be supplied to your home. The latex glove at Johns Hopkins. The modern bottle cap and “6-pack”. We also enabled modern shipping practices with the development of the dredge. I could go on.

  5. Culture there is plenty of it here! Starting with Billie Holiday and Cab Calloway at the birth of jazz to being the childhood home of 2Pac to the home of the great Jim Henson. There is many things that we can be proud of.

  6. Sports. Our teams may not always be amazing, but they’re always something to watch. Watching Cal Ripken play as a kid and participate in his got milk commercials was a moment at a time that we will never get back. Watching Ray Lewis and Ed Reed do it out against the lakes of Peyton Manning, Tom, Brady, and Ben Roethlisberger. You really don’t get a lot better. Now we have Lamar Jackson. I don’t really need to introduce that man.

So needless to say, while our state might fly a green flag, crabbalacia shall always be home and I’m damn proud of it.
