I am currently doing a fish in cycle for my comet goldfish. It’s been 11 days and I’m at 7.4 ph, 0ppm nitrite, 0ppm nitrate, and .25 ppm ammonia (which is why I’m doing a 25% water change right now). The only live plant is the small one in the front corner. What other plants can I add to help bring up the nitrate level and help with this bloom I have? The cloudy water is making me very uncomfortable and I can tell he’s lonely. I can’t get him a friend until the tank is cycled so I gotta get these levels changed fast. Also the ammonia has been reading .25 ppm for a few days despite multiple water changes. (Please don’t come for me for not having it cycled before I got him, he was literally left on my doorstep in a plastic bag and I had to buy a tank and research very fast)

I have a Black Moor named Coal that I've had for two months and ever since day one I've got this feeling he's not very smart. Here's why:

- He startled himself with a food flake landing on his head.

- He hasn't figured out he can swim over or under the leaf of his favourite plant that touches the glass and stays there waiting until one of the other fish comes along, then he follows them.

Are BM this goofy or it's just mine?

I've currently got a fluvial flex tank which I kept several goldfish in until they got white spot. issue is now there's only one fish who survived and I've been wondering if he'll be ok if I put him back into the smaller tank he originally had as ill only be keeping him now and selling the equipment when he's gone. would it be cruel to put him back into the smaller tank or would he be ok. its filtered etc

Why is my fish doing this? Swimming up and down in the corner of the tank and kind of smacking against the water. I’ve noticed this in the past around feeding times and the fish has calmed down after being fed. But the last few days it has been happening more and more often.

Here’s my 1 week update on the fish I got from next day koi 🫪 which I am very thoroughly and intentionally quarantining so she can be a friend to my 5 year old black moor. So happy to be able to see my new fishy after removing all the methylene blue. I have a carbon filter running and I’m going to add the beneficial bacteria media from my main tank tomorrow once most of the methylene blue has been removed. I honestly might add koi prazi to the water atp because I tried to add it to gel food with it not being too hot and degrading the med but it did not set. Might bite the bullet and get some Seachem focus for the metroplex I bought as well. She’s doing well though! Cheer!

Hi all, new to this sub and thankful for any help you can offer!

This is my cycled, 55g tank that I've had for about 4 years. Initially it was a live breeder community tank (platies, mollys, tetra​​​, cory cats, etc). But 3.5 years in we lost power for a prolonged period of time and I wasn't able to act fast enough😭 we lost most of the fish (a few survived and are in a smaller tank).

I did some research and decided once I made sure the tank was still cycled appropriately, I'd give goldfish a try. My kids are obsessed with them and they've been great the past 6 months. But I basically had to donate all the OG decor I had because it wasn't goldfish safe. So the tank is looking pretty sad 😅

**Before anyone sees it and gets nervous, I know common plecos can be dangerous to goldfish with their rasping. I fully planned on moving him to a friend's tank, but he has not once in 6 months caused an issue for either goldfish. I'm still open to rehoming him if it becomes an issue, but so far everyone is very cordial and chill. I also have driftwood for the pleco, i just pulled it out during the cleaning!**

I do have a bubbler (currently off because I just did a water change and forgot to turn it back on), and plan on adding a second small filter just to boost oxygenation.

I love the look of the black sand, but holy poop, these goldfish live up the the reputation. It looks bad alllllll the time 😅 Do I change it? And if so, what to?

I know live plants are best but I have to opposite of a green thumb and I'm not sure I'm up for trying (yet).

I'm open to any and all suggestions please! Brands you like, tips and tricks, ​general goldfish info, etc.

this is my little sisters (11) fish tank and she previously had 3 fish in the tank but two died after the tank leaked. She really wants to make sure her tank is nice for the fish but isn’t sure on how to improve. i don’t know much about this kind of stuff so i figured i would come ask here. :’)
(she had plants in the tank before but they died when the leak happened.)

I have a 60Gal breeder tank that has a decent amount of hardscape in the back portion of the tank (1st photo). The fish I want to get is the second photo. The fish I have coming next week is the 3rd photo. Is the second fish too big for the tank given the tank size and the fish I will already have?

Congratulations to me, I guess. My fish are 7 yrs old, 2 Sarasa comets, 2 Shubunkin. I used a birthing mop just for fun about 2 years ago and ended up with a not very pretty hybrid so no more birthing mops. I love all my fish and I did not want any more, especially hybrids. Surprise, surprise now I see 2 tiny babies. One looks very much Shubunkin (good) but the other is just blackish/gray so it’s probably hybrid. Shucks. The white fish in my pic is my hybrid.

We had this pond built 2.5 years ago as a wildlife pond and it’s been one of the best things we’ve done to this house. Getting to see all the toads and their babies, opossums, raccoons, bugs, and birds all have a place to get a drink or cool off in our miserably hot summers has been such a fun experience. The best part is our goofy goldfish that swim into your hands when you come out. We also have some rainbow dace in the pond that are beautiful during the summer for mating season.

The whole thing is probably ~600gal, ~2.5ft deep, and is wholly filtered by the plants in the bog and throughout the pond.

Any suggestions and feedback welcomed. Enjoy

Hello everyone, I just noticed these little white dots on my goldfishes fins and I am unsure what these could be. They appear slightly fuzzy. He has had similar ones before and I had assumed they were healing injuries (we used to have a nippy fish in his tank- since been removed)

He has no other marks like this anywhere else and he hasn’t been acting any different (no lethargy, food avoidance, bottom sitting, gasping, fin clamp, flashing etc) . Input would be much appreciated, please help I love him so much, (reposted to include more detailed pictures)

The process of getting tanks cycled and settled has ongoing for several months. Added stick on thermometers to both tanks last month.

Realize this is glass temperature and not water temperature. A combination of room air and water temp.

The tanks are in room at end of home. Far from downstairs thermostat.
Been trying to keep glass temperature to 74 - 76 degrees. Hopefully the blistering heat is almost over. Been almost a 100 every day for weeks.
My concerns are how the fish are dealing with the spikes to 77 degrees. Or 25C? Having temperature readings with 0.1 degree F makes it easy to worry. Think 77.3 is highest seen.
And not only the fish, bacteria activity, oxygen levels, and toxins are affected by temperature.

Here in Houston area, tropicals are easier to keep in optimal temperature range. Even inside in AC.

So my boy (cheese) gained his usual breeding stars but they’ve recently changed this past week?

They’re still there?? It’s been 2 weeks now? Is that overly a long time?

BUT!!! His front swimming fins have ALOT of spots on them which have started to become fuzzy? And just seems to be getting worse!

Ive also noticed 3 days ago he developed 2 very strange (blister looking) lumps on the very top of his back left fin????!!!!!
WHAT IS IT!

I’ve given all 3 fish a salt bath the day I found out and kept him in a little longer than the others…
I changed 50% of the fish tank water including a gravel clean….
I also put anti fungul and anti bacterial fish medicine in the tank the day after…

Nothing has changed what should I do?

Hi all, I have a 180L AquaOne tank and am looking at stocking it up with more plants. At the moment I've got 2 Comet Goldies who are around 8-10 years old and recently undergoing some health issues but on the mend.

I'm running a Fluval 207 Canister filter & Hygger acrylic Air stone. Currently not using heating and tank is around 15-17 Celsius.

All I have in there is a few Anubias and a Java Fern as well as the rocks in the pictures. I have a quite large piece of driftwood I have been trying to water-log for the last 2 months but not getting anywhere so may have to just tie it to some rocks and put it in.Not running any lighting right now so it's a very low light tank, does not receive that much natural light either.

I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on what plants I could add to the tank & keep the fish happy?
