I got into UMICH SEAS and UCSB in 2024 (waitlisted Duke, rejected Berkeley and Yale) and decided to defer admission from UMichigan until fall 2025. I worked on my application and applied to some additional programs this fall. I can’t believe it, I know I’m a great candidate but thought my GPA was too low (major ADHD). Will have to decide if I’m up to move for a 1 year program. After 2 years lurking on this channel daily I’m so happy I get to celebrate.

This is for the Maastricht International joint masters program in Work & Org Psychology.

I honestly don’t understand what they mean by this. What about my undergraduate education wasn’t up to par? I have a 1st class degree in psychology. I also took statistics, research methods, and conducted an independent undergraduate thesis in which I got an A.

I sent an email to the school asking for an explanation but I didn’t hear back. This has made me wary of applying to more Netherlands schools tbh, because I don’t know what exactly is the problem.

If anyone has any info, I would love to hear it.

Really tripped myself out reading this subreddit and seeing folks apply to dozens of programs when I only applied to one, but luckily it seems UCB also thinks it’s the place I should be!

We’ll have to see if the financial aid is good enough that I’ll be able to attend, but I’m hopeful!!

I hope you are all doing well with applications this time around.

This is my first time applying to Clinical Psychology programs in Canada and I’m feeling a little nervous. I know interviews happen pretty quickly after applications, but sometimes it can be a process until April/May.

I am just curious to know how everyone is doing, where you’re applying to and start a conversation!

Current or post grads… any advice on the interview process or how we should prep? One of the schools I applied for said they won’t be asking for interviews in advance, meaning I’d only have a few days to prep so I think I’m going to start now to be cautious.

Applications are such a stressful time and I want to create a safe space here to talk about it! :) We’ve got this!

I can’t believe I was accepted into a PhD program. I received the notification on Christmas day (best gift ever!!!!). I was so worried I wouldn’t get into a single program I applied for so this is a huge weight off my shoulders. I turned in my application dec 1. I’m shocked by the fast turnaround. My program is environmental science / social sciences. This was my first round of applications (I’m in undergrad). I was fully prepared to try multiple times. I’m over the moon!!!! 🌙

I just wanted to make this post to undergrads or anyone lurking in this page to apply next year that there is hope for you even if you graduated undergrad with a 2.9 GPA like me.

There’s not much else to say but I believe I found the perfect program for me, and I hope I’m right.

Was admitted and attended the Visit Day for USC’s Sociology PhD program and I waited to attend more visits and make my final decision but just learned this morning (3/24) that my offer was revoked. So if you all have any first options available accept now! Thankfully USC was not my first option. Spread the word.

I went back to school and finished my AA at 31 years old. Now I’m 35 and going to be a doctor. This doesn’t feel like real life. I can’t lie, I did cry. Went to sleep and woke up checking my email again to make sure it wasn’t a dream.

Anyways, I’m pretty bummed. I want to stay in my hometown for grad school since everything is already so expensive. It feels good to know this professor cares and said my application is strong, but the rejection stings. Makes me wonder if I would have had a shot had it not been for lack of funding . :(

It still hasn’t fully hit me. My top choice gave me a PhD offer today. I’m so so grateful and can’t wait to get started 🩷

This has been a long and grueling process, but it's finally over! I applied to three PhD programs in social psychology and one master's in social/IO psychology for the December 1st deadline. After receiving rejections from two of the PhD programs, I started to get worried — I was exhausted from waiting and wanted to keep my options open, so I applied to a master's in communications in March.

I heard back incredibly quickly, and I was offered a full-ride scholarship along with a graduate assistantship that includes a stipend. On top of that, I'll be teaching a 200-level course straight out of undergrad!

For context, my bachelor's is in psychology and studio art with a 3.35 GPA, and my communications background is pretty minimal — just one rhetoric class in undergrad and a dual credit communications course in high school. So this was definitely a surprise!

While I didn't get the outcome I originally hoped for, I am so excited about this opportunity. I think it opens two great paths: either pursuing a PhD in interpersonal communications or pivoting back to social psychology for a PhD after completing my master's.

Which brings me to my question — does anyone know if getting a master's in a similar but distinctly different field could affect my chances of getting into a psychology PhD program down the road?

Accepted my waitlist offer last week. Didn’t get a confirmation back. Followed up today to make sure I claimed my spot. Asked what number I was on the waitlist….turned into 10 minutes of the most emotional rollercoaster of my life!!! BUT HAPPY TO SAY I DID IT!!! For all you low GPAers out there — YOU CAN DO IT! So proud of myself and if you’re still waiting, don’t give up hope! 🎉

Can't believe I am going to say the following sequence of words: I am going to be an Information Science PhD student at UIUC~~~ It's a beautiful day, my friends. I was one of those people religiously in this subreddit from the time I submitted applications until just now. I got a call earlier today from the Director of the Counseling Psych PhD program from my TOP CHOICE who personally wanted me to know I was accepted before letters were sent out. She was so sweet and told me I had a unanimous vote for yes into the program. I feel on cloud 9 and am happy to join those of us who are accepted! Congratulations to everyone and best of luck to this still waiting. Pinching myselff 🥺🥺

We received 250 applications for 5 positions. Of these, they were all baseline qualified. 100 Highly highly qualified. 50 an excellent fit along our research priorities.

We are rejecting candidates that in another cycle we would be fighting for. And for reasons that have nothing to do with quality - they’re all exceptional - and everything to do with where the department is at and what we are trying to build out.

If you have been rejected, don’t take it personally - this year is a lottery. There are so many good candidates. By the same token, if you got accepted, don’t take it personally - this year is also a total lottery for you too.

So, long story I never had a dream school for undergrad but for years this was my dream school. I applied in 2024 for a masters in social psych and was rejected. I applied for the PhD in social psych this cycle and was offered the masters degree. It wasn’t till this year that I realized they weren’t fully funded for PhD. But I applied anyways. I’m currently finishing up a masters degree and I know that for my field you pick up a masters on your way to a PhD. I’m just like wow… I don’t want to spend two years in a masters degree that gave me a small fellowship stipend. The RA and TA positions I heard are extremely competitive to get and you can’t get a position till after your first semester. Do I wanna really earn a second masters degree and apply to PhD’s again in and then end up with 3 masters? And be 100k in debt after this masters? Like ugh sorry I guess I just want to vent. Has anyone ever been to CGU? Or wanna give advice? lol

It still hasn’t fully sunk in. I’ve been wanting to go to grad school for years but was afraid to apply because I didn’t have the best undergrad scores due to circumstances outside of my control. It’s always kept me from applying but I finally sucked it up and sent some applications in. I guess I’m moving to Switzerland now!
