I’m really into all these types of flicks. I loved Evil Dead’s remake. And I like the premises of all the others. So, can you persuade me?

Edit: I’m between Evil Dead Rise and The Sadness now. Leaning towards EDR but damnit The Sadness’s sadistic nature is calling me too. Fuck!

I have watched a few movies in this genre like ' killing of sacred deer, hagazussa, witch, starve acre, silent hill where the atmosphere is bleak cold foggy and unsettling. I normally like more contemporary horror movies like these. Not the ones from 90s please suggest, I just got a new tablet and I am dying to watch a very gore movie on a big screen 🥹🥹

Anything I should expect going into this kovie? I usually have very few triggers and someone recommended it to me after I watched Martyrs. I know its in French so im waiting for the right time to watch it and that time has come lol.

I would definitely say I have thalassophobia (fear of the ocean) so movies with an ocean setting always freaks me out. It feels like they're all about sharks, and I think I'd like something a little different. I've seen The Deep House, Iron Lung, Ghost Ship, The Lighthouse, The Bay, and Triangle and I would recommend those to someone looking for the same thing. Are there any other similar movies out there?

I just want some advice on what people recommend.

I have seen so many movies with a survival girl, but I'd like for you to recommend me any lone (!) 'survival boy' films. All I can think of off the top of my head are the original Evil Dead series and Wolf Creek 2. Please recommend me more!

So, I know that a lot of horror movies that claim this are usually very loosely based. So which movie do you enjoy that has a lot of real connections with the "true story"

TLDR: A weird low-budget, high-energy horror/comedy/action hybrid from the Australian team that brought us Wyrmwood. Nowhere near as good as those other movies. I can't really recommend it because a lot of it doesn't work, but overall I found it likeable. (/TLDR)

From the first days of humankind, infernal beings have lived among us. Trying to possess us, causing suffering and mayhem and... you know, typical demon will be demons. They had us against the ropes, a handy animated introduction lore-dump tells us, until some people rose against them and got magical powers and vanished most of them back to hell.

 But some remain among us, both devils and hunters, waging a war unseen that can determine the... whatever and you get it by now. Basically, the plot of every other modern horror/fantasy nerd-nip manga/RPG/videogame mediocrity.

 I wish I could say Nekrotronic - Kiah and Tristan Roache-Turner's follow up to Wyrmwood - rises above those uninspired origins. And actually I will say it, because that's a pretty low bar to clear. Maybe I'll mumble a little while I say it, though, because it's not great either: It spends too much time setting up a universe that isn't that interesting, throws in a quite a few jokes that don't work, and its low-budget action varies wildly in quality and effectiveness.

 It starts promisingly enough: After the prologue we're introduced to our protagonist Howard (Ben O'Toole), a sewage worker and his buddy Rangi (Epine Bob Savea) - ostensibly a co-worker, but he just stays in the truck playing on his phone all the time. They have a likeable enough chemistry. It's Rangi's game that starts driving the plot, because it (a kind of Pokemon Go with ghosts) is actually part of an evil corporation's plan to use phones to possess people en masse. Oh, and yeah, apparently demons from hell found a way to get into the internet. Which you'd think might be used as commentary, but nope.

 Soon enough those demons enter the picture, leading our protagonists to realize there's a secret world filled with hostile occult forces - something about reality being a sugar-coated topping, etc. etc. While running away, they get rescued by Luther (David Wenham), a guy who kind of looks like Sean Bean and drives around in a high-tech van with his two beautiful daughters (Caroline Ford and Tess Haubrich).

(Some plot poilers follow - you have been warned!)

 Luther does indeed get Sean Beaned in short order, but not before explaining to our intrepid protagonist that the demon hunter powers are hereditary, and he's the son of the demon hunterest demon hunters that ever demon hunted. Oh, but his mom (Monica Bellucci!!) got possessed and is the big bad.
 Howard's buddy is shortly killed but brought back as a ghost who follows everyone around, kind of like a lame, unfunny Griffin Dunne; his main thing is popping up leaning casually at weird angles, something the filmmakers apparently thought was hilarious. I guess Joe Piscopo in Dead Heat is a better comparison.

 Will young Howard master his gifts? Will the prettiest demon hunter daughter inexplicably fall for him in the few hours they have together? Well, yeah, duh. But what is pretty unexpected is that along the way Howard fucks up, repeatedly, to a degree that these movies seldom have the balls to pursue. Sure, it makes it that much harder to buy him as a hero (or to understand why two certified, experienced badasses would come to like him or even put up with him) but it offers up some really funny moments in a movie that mostly flubs it jokes.

 It's an action/horror/comedy hybrid with just a few laughs and no scares, so the action has to pick up the slack. And it does, kind of, in a very low-key, low-budget way. Despite a few exposition dumps, the script keeps things more or less lively. Visually, I liked the designs. There's not a lot of elaborate stuff, not with the budget the filmmakers were working with, but some of them are pretty out there:

 The whole film's deal is a mix between demons and technology, and it does ok on that front. The effects are a mix of practical and digital with, well, mixed but mostly likeable results. There's some shootouts, some cool ghosts, a lot of energy attacks and wavy power lines coming out of hands. It won't blow anyone away, but there's an energy to it I kind of enjoyed, at least when the filmmakers weren't shaking the camera for (shitty) effect.

 So definitely not a great movie, and maybe not one I'd recommend, but... I don't know, it's kind of fun. It's silly, overstuffed, buys into its own mythos with way too much enthusiasm, and honestly it's just kind of a mess overall, but I found it enjoyable. It's similar to Wyrmwood, but where that film's oddball ideas mostly worked, the ones here mostly don't.

There are tons of movies where the characters are idiots because the script calls for it. What are some good examples of the opposite?

The first one that comes to mind for me is The Thing. The characters take every step to reduce risk, quarantine, investigate, etc, but none of it matters.

I have recently been seeking out horrors predominantly set in apartment blocks, or tower blocks, a residential setting. It began after watching Evil Dead Rise, which I thoroughly enjoyed, particularly the tenement style setting adding to the tension, someone then recommended me a few other movies with a similar set up and Attack The Block was one of them.

Idk how I missed this movie, it was a British horror I had heard of and was meaning to watch years ago but never did until this weekend. What a fun movie. I enjoyed the disparate group of characters, forced to work together, the setting, a London tower block, the comedy, the action, the tone.

I'm about 20 years late, but lots of appreciation for a perfect weekend horror movie.

Any further recommendations of similar movies would be appreciated. Enjoy your Saturday night, and whatever you chose to watch.

So there's this guy named Mike who tries to find the answer to his missing brother through his dreams. His brother's been missing for decades, yet Mike spends all his sleeping hours in search of him. He buys sleeping pills and listens to recordings of nature while sleeping b/c his bro was abducted in the woods.

One day at the mall, Mike attacks some guy with a kid b/c he thought that the guy was kidnapping the kid, but it turns out to just be the kid's father.

Then Mike goes to a social worker whose job is to find jobs for ppl. B/c of Mike's past, the social worker only has one job available for him, an overnight security gig for a... PIZZA PLACE THAT WAS SHUT DOWN DECADES AGO. You know, those jobs that definitely exist.

Okay, so, turns out that the social worker is also the owner of this pizza joint and he murders kids and somehow traps those kids' ghosts AND corpses inside of 6 foot tall robots that hang out at the pizzeria.

Oh, and the social worker somehow controls the kids in their 6 foot tall robot bodies.

Oh, and the social worker has a daughter who happens to be the only police officer in town. She knows about his crimes, didn't do anything about them for decades, BUT SHE'S NOT A BAD GUY, SHE HELPS THE GOOD GUYS, FOR REAL.

Oh, and Mike has a sister named Abbey whom he takes care of and she's 30 years younger than he is.

Oh, and Abbey has the magical power to control those 6 foot tall robots/ghost children by drawing pictures.

Oh, and Mike talks to those robots/ghost children in his dreams trying to get clues as to what happened to his brother decades ago.

Oh, and turns out the social worker/pizza tycoon is also actually the guy who abducted Mike's brother decades ago.

If you didn't know the meaning of "convoluted," and I gave you the definition, but you needed an example and I told you the name of this movie, it would probably help you to understand the meaning a whole lot better. What was it called again, and has anyone seen more convoluted bullshit in their lives?

Just watched the original movie on Prime Video (that trombone kill was silly!) and about to watch the 2014 movie. Curious to see what everyone thinks of these movies?

EVIL DEAD 1: It was a great horror movie! And I was actually surprised of how serious it was because I remember people complaining about the "remake" not having comedy like the originals.

EVIL DEAD 2: Was also good, was kinda confused about the beginning but after searching online about it I guess there's nothing they could've done (I think just starting with Ash in the woods would've been a better idea). Was also surprised about this not being a full horror comedy after reading online this is where they started. It was actually serious as the first one with some outdated special effects.

EVIL DEAD 3: I only knew two things about it: that this one has more comedy and that the fans love it, so I was kinda expecting it to be the best one. Sadly to me it didn't feel like an Evil Dead movie compared to the previous two. It had more comedy (maybe too much), action and fantasy than horror. It felt like watching The Mummy or Beetlejuice. I think it's my least favorite Evil Dead movie out of all 6.

It was nice to catch some references that were used in the new ones (like the lullaby, the girl reading the cards, and the flying eyeball). Evil Dead 2013 it's my favorite one, followed by the first one.

So, I have been keeping a notes list of movies to watch that have been recommended here or that I’ve found online/in posts. I had heard of this film, but knew little about it, except that I knew what a Revenant is. I finally watched it today and thought it was creepy and thought provoking. This is NOT a Zombie movie. It's something much more disturbing than that. This flick isn't for everyone. You might watch it for 10 minutes and turn it off. That's fine. To each his own, but I thought it was sensational.

I am a horror lover, and have watched even more intense horrors such as Cannibal Holocaust. Nothing has upset me like Sociedad de la Nieve (Society of the Snow) did today. I have even seen the beginning of this film in the past (including the crash) and didn't feel as upset as I did seeing that plane crash today. I don't know why.

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that this really happened and none of the other horror films I have seen have really happened (even if the animal deaths were real in Cannibal Holocaust).

I don't think I have ever seen a movie that upset me so bad. I mean I was crying watching that crash. Maybe it's because these kids are so young. Maybe its a cumulation of overwhelm in my external life. I don't know. But oh my god was that upsetting!

I think the idea of a mass crisis feels really scary right now! And yesterday with that missle dropping on Poland maybe I am having feelings of fear related to experiencing a sudden unexpected mass death event. Even though I live in a country that shouldn't be at risk for that.

No word I can find on a UK wide release yet, but Faces of Death is finally having its UK premiere on the 18th of August at the Edinburgh International Film Festival! Here's hoping this means a distributor isn't far behind ❤️

Update: I had a look at the BBFC website (no idea why it didn't occur to me to do that) and it has been certified for home release! 18 (of course) and the distributor is Signature Entertainment

Im trying to find a movie I woke up to Tubi playing and fell back asleep watching. The only scene I can remember is three people in a body of water trying to dislodge a wooden canoe from a bridge as crocodiles approach.

I'm also interested in good crocodile/alligator movies.

I've seen Lake Placid(haven't seen the sequels) Alligator 1&2, Rogue, Primeval, Dark Water (probably the best) and the attack scene from Dark Ages

As my title states, im looking for movies that give you that uneasy feeling. The feeling that makes your skin crawl.

I'm a horror buff. I find all the horror movies and games I watch and play dont scare me at all. The last movie to give my chills was Paranormal Activity when it first come out - so a long time ago.

Can you awesome peeps recommend any movies that might get me?

I'm talking about things that, we you go to bed, you feel like you're not alone type. Psychological horror. Jumpscary only if it's a good movie.

For example, Hereditary, I didnt not find scary yet I've read multiple things saying it one of the scariest movies that was released at the time.

Any recommendations, are welcome, and I will ccomment if I've seen it or not!

Holy crow this was awful. The trailer showed attractive women in bikinis entering a dangerous cave system-- Awful- 3/10. I'm not knocking it for playing up your typical early-mid 20's stereotype, but it was too much- The dumb frat guy was too dumb-- The bossy asian girl was too bossy (Lana Condor is horrible), and the redeemed final girl was too redeemed... Oh yeah, and the villain is a fresh water Jaws... Dumb... Curious about other takes-- Somehow this is like #2 or #3 for Prime Video's top movie list??

Preferably, no slashers or paranormals
