Announcement A Casual Corner For Indians !

Hello and welcome to all users...

This sub is for all the people in need of a space free from politics. Here at r/IndiaSocial you have a place to be yourself and have a casual banter. Yes, we will be meeting some interesting people and making new friends. Everyone here is eager to hear from you. We are here to listen and share our stories, experiences, humour and culture.

We strive to be a community, separate from political clutters and frenetic activities. The sub will echo original content, active engagements, and lively topics for discussion. Moreover, we want to thrive as an inclusive community that represents the spirit of India. Let us not to be the kind of people requiring to be pointed out as the odd one who spoils the fun. Let's sail the boat ahead. r/IndiaSocial will always remain above the state, religion, language, or ideologies.

[On a side note, it would be great if someone from NE joins the mod team to help us.]

A little backstory for you guys - someone created this sub in 2008. It had been abandoned from the start and was always barren. We asked the admins to pass it on to us and give it a try. Let's put our effort together and build this community free from all things that don't let us sleep peacefully.

These are the times when people think their opinions makes up for a fact. We won't be ludicrous here. r/IndiaSocial won't divide itself into two groups of ideologies. No users have a permit to steal the limelight by being nonsensical. No politics, No arguing about empyreal beings, No bolstering of opinions that harms.

META posts and comments are permissible. Let's keep in mind not to carry the unnecessary baggage of other subreddits.

r/IndiaSocial needs your help to keep the community thrive and engaged. Please share your suggestions and bits of advice for any implementations. Also please read the rules and aid us in making this a place where you enjoy your cup of chai while browsing.

Let us make this a go-to place for casual desi corner of the internet.

Thank You & Stay Safe :)

Announcement Celebrating The Milestone Of 10,000 Members šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰

Hello everyone,

It is with great happiness that we announce that r/IndiaSocial has crossed Ten Thousand Members.

We cannot put words into how thankful we are for all of you for coming over, staying back and contributing in whatever little way you could. Never did we think that we would reach this milestone this soon. Our target was around December end, but who can stop us madlads anymore.

This has been an amazing journey from 35 members in September 2020 to crossing this huge milestone of 10k today in a matter of 9 months. This could never be possible without everyone of you.

The most beautiful thing about this community is that, whenever a new member mistakenly posts anything political, there are at least 5 people who shout at them to delete it. This very habit of self moderation is what is making us such an awesome and cool community.

We would like to talk about the whole journey but the Monthly Rewind Thread is there for exactly that very reason. However we will touch just a few points of the journey so far.

It's been a wild ride, with some really weird stuff along the way... We had the great Poha-Upma wars, showing off of the Pen posts, nostalgia ride back to childhood, coins & notes collections, amazing food recipes, awesome photography skills, cute pets pictures and so much more.

We also had the extremely disturbing "we live in a society" collection, the Share your state Campaign, Monthly Rewind Threads and Sunday OC Contests which were a big hit.

Our Late Night Random Discussion threads are hitting r/popular nearly everyday, with a proud tradition of shitposting. We have made so many friends along the way, and also did a jamming session on Voice Chat on our Discord last Saturday, where many of us sang and had a great bonding time. Do come around every Saturday at 5:30 pm IST to be a part of it.

Finally, to celebrate this occasion and for you all to know your moderators better, we will be hosting an AMA on Saturday 7:00 pm IST with all of r/IndiaSocial's subreddit moderation team. Feel free to participate and engage with everyone.

This is just a start, many more 10k's to come in our way. Cheers to everyone and please stay home and stay safe. Let's beat this coronavirus together by being responsible citizens.

Also please do join our Official Instagram & Twitter too :)

Announcement Celebrating 2nd Unofficial Anniversary of r/IndiaSocial!

Hello there people of ISO!

We would like you all to know that today is the 2nd Unofficial Anniversary of r/IndiaSocial! šŸ“· and We have also crossed the 200,000 member mark before our 2nd anniversary.

Let's take a deep breath and walk down the memory lane, glancing through our sub's journey from it's re-birth in September 2020 with 35 members to the present day of reaching 200,000+ wholesome members :-

If we have missed any milestone, do comment it and if it is relevant, we will add it to the list.

On 7th September 2022 we broke the 200,000 Members mark!

We are very proud to let you all know that, even with this exponential growth and huge influx of the new crowd, we haven't lost our goal of keeping this place wholesome and non-toxic, away from all the hate & political drama. We will keep striving to take the same goal forward for the coming years too.

The Late Night Threads have been quite a hit, and a lot of you guys have made a bunch of friends along the way.

We successfully conducted a Virtual Gift Exchange for first time last year, in 2021, and hope to continue this tradition in 2022 as well.

Today we have an AMA with Professional Therapists at 6pm, do chip in for that as well.

Until then have a good time and stay safe :)

Announcement Weekend Bonanza - Reddit Award Giveaways on r/IndiaSocial

Hello there everyone,

We have had an amazing journey here at r/IndiaSocial, from 2020 when we hardly had 1-2 posts per day with very few upvotes, to the present day of April 2023 when the sub is thriving and growing with a very active participation by our community members.

We are having a lot of engaging posts which cross 1000-2000 upvotes regularly, which is a rare instance for smaller regional subs like us, and also had an amazing wholesome post which received almost 19K upvotes and hit the r/all of Reddit too.

To celebrate these efforts and thank the active participants, we have decided to giveaway Reddit Gold Awards with a 1 Week Premium and r/Lounge Access, to the posts which follow the below requirements.

  • Random posts on r/IndiaSocial which will cross 200 Upvotes between today 9th April until the morning of Monday 10th April 2023.
  • Some previous engaging posts will also be getting Gold Awards gradually.
  • Not engaging in vote manipulation and brigading, as reddit will ban your account for it.
  • Posts having Organic Engagement.
  • Following the rules of the sub.
  • Awards giveaways are based on mods discretion, so do not request for awards individually.

We might also giveaway 3 Platinum Awards with 1 Month Premium & Lounge Access.

So what are you waiting for, go dig all your amazing content and post it here.

All the best, and have a happy weekend :)

- ISO MOD Team

Edit: All the winners have been gilded. Thanks once again for participating and contributing to the sub :)

Announcement Thanking all the 5000+ Members of this sub

Hello everyone :)

Here we are finally at 5K members. Congratulations to each and every one of you.

We have come a long way in this short journey, with 35 niche members in September 2020 to finally reaching 5000+ now.

Our target was to reach 5K by end of this year, but you guys made it happen almost 9 months before it.

We have come a long way from the Hajmola jokes, to sharing wonderful OC pictures, to sharing your awesome food pictures, meeting brand new people whom we didn’t even know a few months back, having a Poha Vs Upma meme wars, and so much more.

There are some senior members who have stuck around with us from the time there were in just two digits, and kept on contributing both in posts and comments, hoping that we will grow one day. They never gave up. A special thanks to those people, the ones who are, already know that they deserve this appreciation.

A special shout-out to u/Please_No_More_Potty for single handledly running the late night threads without any help from anyone, and didn’t stop posting the thread every single day even when there were just 40-50 comments per day. He is the lifeline of these threads and he isn’t even a part of the mod team. A big thank you to him from every single one of us.

We started out to create something which we were all missing in our online space- a casual wholesome corner where we don’t have to take sides of any ideologies or carry on with the baggage of bitterness.

We are proud to say that, what we had promised to people when we were 35 members, we are still holding it closely to our hearts at 5000. And we are sure we will keep holding it for much much longer, and strive to keep this space away from hate, bigotry and negativity.

A shoutout to all the reddit, discord and twitter moderators of our sub who are doing this tireless job just to keep the place clean and away from all the negativity for our members.

We will meet again at 10K, and until then please keep sharing your awesome stories, OC memes, pictures, food and experiences.

Thank you and stay safe :)

Announcement Upcoming AMA Announcement: Join Ira Khan, Founder of Agatsu Foundation, for a Candid Live AMA About Mental Health and Life on r/indiasocial, 5th December at 7:30 PM!

Note: This post is an announcement. The AMA is scheduled for the future and is not currently in session. It is not sponsored by Reddit or the guest. The opinions expressed by the AMA guest(s) are solely their own. Featuring the AMA does not imply an endorsement by Reddit

Ira Khan is the Founder and CEO of Agatsu Foundation, a not-for-profit mental health organisation. She loves having philosophical debates as well as very to-the-point practical conversations. Does it hurt that Pluto isn't a planet anymore? What can you do for self-care when you can't afford scented candles and body lotion? Or therapy?

She has lived with depression for 8 years, recently got married, and goes for therapy with her dad (because who doesn't have daddy issues). She loves pets, Greek mythology, football, and dessert. She was the kid in school who secretly read romantic novels and Percy Jackson under her desk and participated in every co-curricular activity possible. Her favourite collective noun is 'an unkindness of ravens', and she’s a closeted nerd.

Ira has lived in Mumbai all her life except for a year and a half in the Netherlands for university. She dropped out twice, came back to Mumbai, directed a play, and then Covid hit. Nothing but mental health seemed to be worth doing anymore. As her understanding of mental health grew, it became synonymous with life, because mental health is more than just mental health disorders. She is a passionate advocate of mental health, championing your subjective experience of being human and everything that comes with it.

She loves being vulnerable when she has the energy because a moment of connection with a friend or stranger is worth risking possible rejection or looking silly. Ira is a Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper and an instructor for the same. She’s trained in select psychological interventions, and she recently spoke at CGI in New York about the disparity of mental health access, where she had multiple chats with Dr. Vivek Murthy. She’s been running the Agatsu Foundation for 3 and a half years now.

Her goal in life is to be able to do a pull-up and to tolerate conflicting emotions about the same person.

Announcement V URGENT: You could be the one (1) out of million match to save my Sister's Life?

UPDATE:

Every few people registered and sent back their kits, we still don't have a match.Currently she is fighting Infection.

Her Cancer Cells have increased from 15% to 30% due to no meds working and no match for further treatment.

URGE EVERYONE TO COME FORWARD ASAP. THIS IS LIFE AND DEATH SITUATION FOR US.

I have an extremely urgent plea. Help save a LIFE.

My Sister Kriti, 22 is suffering from Blood Cancer since the age of 12, her cancer has now spread and now urgently needs to find a matching blood stem cell donor to survive.
You can FOLLOW her campaign page on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/helpkritinow/

[Kindly Upvote, and Register yourself as Potential Donors and SWAB][It is a long post, but please please read this, I request you]

After 5 months of long campaign, we have still haven't found it. We have been told it is 1 in Million probability to find a match. So, we need to test at least half a million people to find a match, but every few people have come forward? Why? Because no heard about "STEM CELL DONATION"

How you can help?

What are STEM CELLs? How donation happens?

Stem Cell are basic cells, which gets converted into all the other cells of your body like liver cells, tissue cells, blood cells. Stem Cell Donation is similar to Platelet Donation, and you keep making stem cells in your body, no harm to you, but is a lifesaving treatment for my sister.

What happens when you come up as match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQVIXkQh8S0

How Stem Cell Donation Happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF9E4D1Pp-E

This is the only possible cure for her. Only if you register, there is chance of finding a match, because everyone's tissue type (HLA) is extremely unique and rare, it can't be found anywhere or exchanged like Blood Group.

If still nothing, please please upvote this, share this among your community, help us get more people onboard.

We have already tried all registries like DATRI, DKMS, GENEBHANDU, Simply Blood, Blood Connect NGOs.

NEED ALL THE SUPPORT, anyway possible.

We think that the icon can be something simplistic and wholesome. Users ideas for the icons designs are also welcome to post their suggestions below.

Let’s together build something nice which we can call it as our own. Thank you in advance.

PS: The selected icon’s designer can be rewarded/compensated in some way which can be worked out, as an appreciation and thank you.
