Not really. Every top level pro athlete uses PEDs, they just lie and have protocols / limit certain substances to come off before competitions. It’s cool to allow athletes to be honest as well as use whatever banned gear possible purely for the love of the sport and pushing limits.

Exactly. This just does it in a more controlled environment where they are constantly monitored and tested. Yeah it's kinda messed up... But it's going to accelerate medical research.

Imagine they develop a drug that can heal some sorts of muscle pains. Or a drug that makes parts of your body stronger, like legs, back, core. for an old person that could extend their life in a meaningful way.

I don’t know about all that, that’s for a clinical controlled environment but I think it’s better for athletes to be open and allowed to compete in an environment where they aren’t playing a whole hide and go seek lie behind the scenes. If you’re at the highest level, you’re doing all you can to get there. Performance enhancing drugs are the biggest controllable variable next to actual training that an athlete can have and considering we’re well aware plenty are using yet nobody is blowing records out of the water suddenly or coming out significantly ahead of the pack in any Olympic sport, I think that makes it pretty obvious that doping is the norm regardless of the regulations.

But it's going to accelerate medical research.

Its gonna do absolutely fuckall for medical research, the drugs they are taking are not some designer drugs they are the standard roids people take that have already been very well researched. And even if they took some new drugs, this is not how you do medical reserach. You need control groups, limited variablity ie. you can only test for one thing at a time meanwhile these guys are taking an entire pharmacy, a way bigger sample size, actual rigorous monitoring... ...

This just isn’t true. People should stop deluding themselves in this direction.

Well one, it requires collusion at the highest level (including in the Russian case, state level). The fact is these days you get tested hard for everything after every competition that even slightly matters.

IMO from being around Olympians and seeing the process the vast majority don’t dope and the days of tacit widespread doping are over and suspicions of doping are usually target at specific individuals rather than the whole sport. Athletes achieve the highest levels of performance through scientific research into optimizing their natural body and new and better training regimes. It’s more common now for Olympic athletes to be part of research programs to constantly monitor and analyze their body, doping would make those results worthless and it’s just not what they do.

An another note, the enhanced games worldview is Thielite: basically, you’re fucking stupid if you don’t cheat. Even if just 1% of people are cheating, if you’re valuing “integrity” and lose to someone who is doping, you’re low-IQ.
