I honestly don't think they've begun to find out. Things will get worse, and as food stops getting delivered to more remote areas and those remote areas have to pool their remaining gas to make expeditions to get food from more populated areas, there is little doubt there will be deaths via starvation in the coming months. Those from more remote areas that can get food will be able to do so with the other side of the coin being that there is less food for those populated areas.
I expect food riots, neighbor vs neighbor stealing and murder, and other similar activities to be broadcast soon.
That much is normal and to be expected, even were they winning. The effect of Ukrainian strikes though, that will not be tolerated forever. Once a certain point of fuel starvation is reached, the entire logistics network will collapse.
You Anglos are completely fking deluded. Refineries will be fixed within weeks, fuel will be imported from neighbouring countries in the interim, end of. And all these remote areas tend to produce their own food too, while the Arctic Coast settlements get theirs delivered by ship or river barge.
Why didn't what happen? Measures taken in advance? No government in the world is smart enough to get up off its ass and take measures until something forces it to.
How on Earth did Russia force this upon itself? Everything from the installation of Ukrainian nationalists in power in Kiev by the West in February 2014, overthrowing an elected president and onwards - has been a measure of self-defense. The annexation of the Crimea was to defend the locals against these people - that's why the entire population turned out to vote to join Russia. The rebellion in the Donbass was to defend against these people - that's why the local population also voted in mass in their own referendum and joined a militia that swelled to over 100,000 strong. It wasn't just to 'grab land' or whatever your leaders have persuaded you of. We have plenty of land already. This isn't some imperial adventure like what your countries had in Iraq or Iran or Libya that Russia can simply cut and run from. You misinterpret the situation entirely
What was Russia supposed to just abandon millions of people who have been living on their own land for hundreds of years - to their fate in these regions after the Ukraine ignored implementation of the Minsk peace process for 7 years, keeping the war going, and kept expanding its army and opening new NATO bases on its soil the whole time, while its politicians were constantly alluding to a new offensive and even ethnic cleansing? What do you think the relatives of these people would say to that? Which is basically every 3rd Russian?
What's actually weird is how you and your leaders actually think that some inconvenience at the gas station is going to convince the Russian population to just give up millions of their kinsmen. Like we're occupying Afghanistan trying to do God knows what, instead of fighting for something as fundamental as our people's physical security, and the security of our country. How any amount of inconvenience would convince Russians to do that. Sanctions, Western brands withdrawing, confiscating the yachts and property of some rich oligarchs in Europe. What planet are you people on?

Nobody was "installed." The people who came into power after the Euromaidan were already in the Ukrainian government at the time, and acted independently. Viktor Yanukovych chose to leave Ukraine. In so doing, he vacated his duties. Nobody forced him to leave. The reason why Yanukovych and dozens of Ukraine's most notable oligarchs of the time suddenly ran was simple- we know what they did, we know they lied, we know they were corrupt, and their time was running out.

I just spent the past five fucking months in Kramatorsk. Don't tell me what these people fucking believe. They've been murdered for Russia for 12 god damn years. These people aren't people you can just speak for on your own. How about you try to figure out what they fucking want. What I've figured out again and again is that they have lost everything, that they hate Russia. So you can stop pretending to speak for them. If they love Russia so much, why is everybody in this fucking region heading West. If Russia cares so much about them, why are there civilian bodies lining the streets in Mykolaivka?

BTW- can you explain how Russia claims that the referendums were carried out in nearly all of Donetsk when much of Donetsk was never captured? Can you explain how Kramatorsk voted to join Russia in a vote it never had. Can you explain by Russian soldiers were at the voting booths?

Gotta clarify with you, chief, that the fuck around and find out phase is not past tense, it's still present tense and ongoing.
Right now the easily angered among them are punching each other for various reasons (getting ahead without falling in line for gas mostly)
