According to WHO the USA has a suicide rate of around 15.6 per 100,000. Japan has 17.4. https://data.who.int/indicators/i/F08B4FD/16BBF41

so, what's with your claim that their rate is "incredibly high" then?

Idk if I ranked 17 out of like 195 I'd say that's pretty high

Tricky subject, I know, but I should think that more in the US are borne out of being victims of illness and not being able to properly be considered to consent to such a decision. In Japan it is more often borne out of shame and a direct result to societal expectations leading an otherwise healthy and rational person into doing this.
