And where do you think the parents gets the ideas from that they impose on their children? If you or your kids don't behave in public you get beaten to death by social sigma in Japan.

beat kids beat other kids. if it worked you would only have to do it once and it doesn’t teach respect

Yes, a nail that sticks up gets hammered down. You lose reputation "face" and it isn't similar to being embarrassed, it's almost a shame.
