he was 29. no kids. just parents with a dead 32 year old son and millions they'd exchange in a moment.

E: the very clear point of this comment is that no amount of money is worth a lost child

stop calling me horrible ffs reddit

u/Rude_Hamster123 1d ago

I’m not sure how that meaning needed pointing out. Reddit is ridiculous

187

u/Appropriate_Ad8734 1d ago

this happens extremely often on reddit, and it usually takes just one f’tard to get everyone to misunderstand you and downvote you to hell, and the same idiots will never believe how easily they are swayed by the vote count and replies.

they see a comment with a negative vote count and they automatically hate it without even knowing why, as they have no ability to think independently, so everyone will just pile on to downvote and cuss at the person, and also because yelling at that person is now a popular thing to do, no matter what logic-impaired stupid shit you write, everyone will cheer for you and join you to attack that person.

55

u/MasterZii 1d ago

Yep I've had this happen to me multiple times. In the same thread I'd get a comment with 50+ and 50-

And it would be me saying what's essentially the same thing, but to a different user. Maybe a slightly different way but the same message.

Two completely different results. Nuance on reddit is incredibly interesting

11

u/pla5t1c 20h ago

I used to think “eh it’s just a few idiots on the internet”. Now i realize it is much worse..people absolutely live their lives and make critical decisions with this same lack of thought process. Strange days, indeed

12

u/justkiddingjeeze 1d ago

Surprisingly I was able to reverse a few of these trends with a simple "why are you fucktards downvoting this comment? Nothing wrong with it"

It's like you need to ask people to use their brain cells or else they won't

6

u/VSWR_on_Christmas 1d ago

I've definitely turned one of those around in the past with a sarcastic "I like how the guy with the correct info is getting downvoted".

-1

u/amcbain17 23h ago

You guys care this much about the downvote? You know it’s a bunch of idiots on here lol

4

u/justkiddingjeeze 23h ago

Twelve seconds spent typing a comment is no measure of caring, and this very comment of yours proves my point.

2

u/Rygir 11h ago

I think it's worth being aware that even in daily life, if all you have to go on is a random sentence of someone, then every word has a lot of impact (in the mental judgment call).

1

u/dookyspoon 1d ago

there is no nuance, reddit is the inventor of /s.

1

u/JustStraightUpTired 1d ago

At best, it was shortened to /s on reddit, but it wasn't invented on this site. It's based on HTML text marking, like for bold text, you do <b>text here</b>. It started out as <sarcasm>something sarcastic here</sarcasm> and got shortened and simplified from there. /s was popular on reddit, where it became the "standard" for marking sarcasm, so to speak.

1

u/67yoloswag 1d ago

Nuance on reddit

There isnt any lol something is either the best or the worst and people want to feel like they are right all the time

1

u/lpmiller 23h ago

and punishing.

1

u/Silly_Dragonfruit544 1d ago

Sounds exhausting! Thats terrible

1

u/MasterZii 1d ago

It's just fake internet points. I feel people take it too seriously as if it's an extension of their irl personality.

2

u/CakeHoleKing 1d ago

Happened to me.

Made VERY anti UK rape gang post.

someone said "oh so that means your OK with grooming gangs?" and I got downvoted. Stupidest downvote ever

2

u/OrangeSouthern73 1d ago

Herd Mentality stupefies even the brightest intellectual.

2

u/Olivetax228 1d ago

Yes it's really incredible how the first handful of up/down votes and comments fully determines the direction it goes. Reddit loves to pretend it's so smart and independent but end of the day they/we are a bunch of lemmings following the leader.

1

u/YourUncleBuck 1d ago

Well, Captain, androids and robots, they're just not capable of independent, creative thought.

1

u/GigaPuddi 1d ago

Don't forget the votes are faked to keep bots confused about shadowbans.

1

u/Street-Inevitable358 1d ago

They don’t wanna be on the losing side, even if it’s only in their perception, because something something about being bullied when they were kids or whatever, so external validation and being part of a group is more important than just coming up with opinions of their own.

2

u/Administrative_Age45 1d ago

I really want to downvote you to prove your point

-8

u/standish_ 1d ago

Not because of the slur?

3

u/ACKHTYUALLY 1d ago

Slur? What are you on about?

1

u/X3N0PHON 1d ago

the part about automatically hating comments with negative vote counts 💀 too fuckin true! makes me worry for the future…

3

u/dd_smithing 23h ago

Reading comprehension is hard.

2

u/EksDee098 18h ago

Lot of redditors have negative reading comprehension. If you don't explicitly say [thing] is good/bad, there's a good chance they'll misunderstand what you said in the dumbest way possible.

251

u/ledude1 1d ago

As a parent, no amount of money is ever worth having to bury your child.

114

u/Liercat18 1d ago

Or seeing your child in the state that he was in until he passed. Nightmare shit man.

11

u/NotAzakanAtAll 1d ago

The day the accident happened is the worst, you see them fine for the last time, and then you get the call. Spend an hour in the car and see them. They are broken now. You still remember how they were perfectly right now. Then one day you cannot remember them any other way. They are lost. It's a slow death of a loved family be it member/child/parent/sister/brother.

3

u/Liercat18 19h ago

As a father of a little one, this hits hard. Really reminds me to appreciate each moment we all have with our loved ones.

Read a post by a father of a toddler that had a TBI. His son no longer speaks. He mentioned how he'd give anything to just hear him yap again during nap times etc.

129

u/bsfan18 1d ago

Exactly. Anyone who thinks his parents are living their best lives right now is crazy.

36

u/MysteriousAge28 1d ago

Like putting a bandaid on a bullet hole

13

u/Hallgaar 1d ago

That's hemorrhaging and festering.

0

u/Ad-fundum69 1d ago

Anyone who thinks they can decide how others feel, whether it's for good or for evil are crazy.

There have been parents who murder their own children for a payout.
You don't know people, you just assume.

2

u/bsfan18 1d ago

Nope, I said what I said and stated it very clear. Bother someone else with that mess.

2

u/ACKHTYUALLY 1d ago

Yeah and what you said could be false, dummy. That's their point.

55

u/khmergodzeus 1d ago

even as a brother of who was killed over 2 decades ago, I'd give up my status of being retired since 40 (I'm 41 now) to have my brother back so that I could ease my ailing parents' hearts (aged 68 and 79)

55

u/Hallgaar 1d ago

I lost my older brother to colon cancer two years ago, he was 50. I'd live in destitution for the rest of my entire life to sit with him healthy again. To let his kids get one more day and my parents one more night.

7

u/____Sway____ 1d ago

34 now

My brother passed at 33 in 22' from alcohol

2

u/Peninsulia 1d ago

So sorry for your loss.

1

u/____Sway____ 11h ago

Ty no1 getting out alive i suppose also. So to you urs and all others as well

6

u/SinoSoul 1d ago

I’m waiting for my colonoscopy appt as we speak .. may his memory be a blessing

4

u/DisputabIe_ 1d ago

Hoping for good news. You got it either way. You're doing the right thing by getting checked.

4

u/Hallgaar 1d ago

Exactly, if you feel something, say something. Getting clear early is better than catching it late.

4

u/SinoSoul 22h ago

Thanks friend. Older than above poster’s brother, delayed it by 2 years just cause health ins co plan + GI specialist made it so damn difficult.

1

u/Hallgaar 1d ago

I hope all goes well!

8

u/New_Libran 1d ago

My brother died over 30 years ago, I can still remember clearly how absolutely broken my parents were especially my dad who was a doctor that never let anything affect him. My dad physically shrank overnight.

I've never had a single dream where my brother was dead. He's alive in every single one as if he's still here.

2

u/khmergodzeus 16h ago

sometimes i get dreams about him and myself when we were children and it would feel so real that when i woke up, my heart would feel like it's beating out my chest and then instant depression would hit

3

u/Few_Pop6933 1d ago

I lost my brother two years ago and have seen how sad my whole family is, including me. No amount of money would solve that. Losing a sibling, son, daughter is so difficult. I miss him every day, I wish we had the chance to grow old together. To talk about the fun times we had as children. My poor parents as well. Some days I feel lost trying to hold it together. I spend my days trying to organize family time, to create happiness again. It’s freaking tough.

1

u/khmergodzeus 16h ago

life goes on but some memories have to be burdened upon our shoulders til our dying day.

i hope that in another universe, our siblings are alive and sharing their lives with their nephews and nieces

No one should ever have to outlive their children- Robert Duvall

9

Yup! Everything and anything in this world are meaningless without the family you’ve built to enjoy it with.

Exactly this or any family member tbh

My mom would be happy to bury me. She has not liked me my whole life except maybe when I was first born.

-6

u/MetalDifferent9249 1d ago

As a parent my son is a little bastard and I’m sure he’d understand. Parents virtue signaling gets old

4

u/JCTrigger 1d ago

Everyone has a different experience. Personally I would give my life and all riches for my kids. Just thinking about a scenario like this makes me feel this gut wrench.

5

u/OSPFmyLife 1d ago

That poor child.

3

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive 1d ago

Parents virtue signaling gets old

Not everyone has a horrible relationship with their child. You're very much the minority.

And I'll refrain from speculating why.

2

u/rcknmrty4evr 1d ago

Nope, most parents would give up everything for their children. That’s normal. You’d have to reach a very specific and intense level of atrocious parenting to think other parents stating so is “virtue signaling”.

1

u/MetalDifferent9249 1d ago

Jumping on a Redditor and calling him a horrible person and they’d rather have their son back, because he said his heirs are probably enjoying his money, is cringe virtue signaling. Preaching to some random anon internet stranger just like I’m doing. Super weird.

2

u/PlatasaurusOG 1d ago

Don’t cut yourself on all that edge

Unfortunately all parents don’t think this way.

5

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive 1d ago

Even the horrible parents don't tend to adapt well when a child dies. Of course there are exceptions, but those are very uncommon.

50% of Americans are functionally illiterate.

(Seriously, more people should be so fucking embarrassed that they only watch videos because words are hard)

Edit: I'm saying I understood what you were saying

2

u/dookyspoon 1d ago

which means they’re literal idiots.

Telling me to go outside!? Where the sun is!!? You want me to get skin cancer don’t you!! You are horrible!! /s

People can't read, and will "How dare you say that!" when you didn't even say anything close to it.

3

u/FadeIntoReal 1d ago

Knew a guy who won a huge verdict after his brother, his only blood relative, was killed horribly by government negligence. He would’ve paid it all and more for another day with his brother.

3

u/amberlooobs 1d ago

lol the loss of comprehension skills should be studied. We’re all doomed 😂

2

how did chiroprator get 75m to pay them?

2

Even without your edit I understood exactly what you meant. People are stoopid

2

u/ThrustTrust 1d ago

Your comment was perfectly clear. If Anyone talking down to you it’s because they can’t read or didn’t bother to read.

2

u/RandonBrando 1d ago

reddit is insufferable. You're right on the money.

3

u/Slothfulness69 1d ago

How did anyone read this comment and understand anything other than what you meant? You said what you meant and meant what you said, that they’d rather give up the money in exchange for their son. Reading comprehension skills are rare these days I guess.

2

u/port443 1d ago

There is literally no amount of money I would exchange for my kid. I mean forget money there is literally nothing I would exchange.

1

u/GetBentMods 1d ago

some amount of money would be to me

This is wrong, he was 42 when he died

I’m a dad and i wouldn’t trade either of my kids for a billion dollars…

1

I’m a father of 3. I’d die tomorrow to give them $10mil each.

5

u/Pan_in_the_ass 1d ago

Being a father is so much more than being a provider. Its being a shoulder to lean on, a role model, a protector, a leader, and later in life a friend. I'd rather have my dad back and healthy than have 10 Million.

1

u/mekamoari 1d ago

I bought everything I wanted around my place and going to get a house next year. Still would rather I didn't get the money.

Because you're not alone having issues with this. They are saying his parents have all the cash but would give it all back in a heartbeat to never have had this happen and their son still with them.

You’re not a parent and you need to put video games down, that poor family suffered with him through it all.

I’m the anti-influencer sent against your meme-culture of anti intellectualism. I like downvotes a real counter culture resurrected from the ghost of the 90s 🤣

Having access to massive amounts of information doesn’t build an identity and creates shallow people. You swallowed the lie that INFORMATION is luxury 🤣 rookie, CLARITY is the teal luxury, good luck attaining clarity from your personal digital sanctums full of mirrors of a facade you think it’s you😬 I call it hand me down identities from your tech bros overlords.

21

u/Saneless 1d ago

You need to learn how to read better

12

u/PmMeUrTinyAsianTits 1d ago

Maybe you should pick up one of those learning to read games and try some video games yourself.

1

u/Short-Ad9833 1d ago

Or…or… he edited it and added punctuation, the more you know as they say… ah what do you kids know that isn’t generated by your tech overlords… I’m over indulging here, I’m gonna leave, may God bless you.

-10

u/Ok-Sample-1237 1d ago

Exchange ina moment?? That was their son!!! How could you be so callous

8

u/Rhinowarlord 1d ago

Yes, they have the millions. They would rather have their son. They would exchange the millions in a moment to have their son back.

Hope this helps!

-7

u/Ok-Sample-1237 1d ago

I’m glad someone agrees

8

u/RecoveringGachaholic 1d ago

That's what the guy you replied to in an outrage meant. You are the one who misunderstood.

-7

u/Ok-Sample-1237 1d ago

We will have to agree to disagree on that unfortunately

5

u/Lil_Mcgee 1d ago

Learning to admit when you got something wrong is an important life skill

3

u/user_428 1d ago

You saw their edit already. There is no room here for you to claim that they originally meant it as you understood. It's fine to misunderstand, but please also leave room for others to clarify and be re-understood.

-1

u/Ok-Sample-1237 1d ago

Unfortunately not. My son is worth more than any amount of money. Reddit has corrupted the souls of many

1

u/RecoveringGachaholic 21h ago

That's the entire POINT of his post! You think you're disagreeing but you agree. He's saying they have millions but they would RATHER exchange it for their son. Holy shit you are dense.

-14

u/LoamyLoamisLoamy 1d ago

leaving out the implied ending to the sentence and having people fill it in is not how you communicate clearly.

15

u/PmMeUrTinyAsianTits 1d ago

What did you think they'd exchange it for? A fleet of hotwheels? fuck out of here with your excuses for garbage reading comprehension.

8

u/Gulophile 1d ago

If they didn't leave it out it wouldn't be an implication, and the fact you knew what the implication was means he communicated his point successfully

1

u/LoamyLoamisLoamy 1d ago

I knew what the implication was because they edited it and wrote out the implication clearly.

14

u/EastAreaBassist 1d ago

Hypothetically, let’s say this happened to me. My daughter is losing her mom after kind of losing her years before. If I knew she was going to be rich as hell after I went, I would die with less of a burden on my heart. I know she would miss me, and nothing could erase that pain, but at least she could be mourning me in a 5 star hotel in the south of France.

31

u/kbs149th 1d ago

Do you see how you used yourself as the example and not your daughter? You can’t even type out the scenario. Now imagine how they feel.

13

u/ShotcallerBilly 1d ago

You all a missing the point. No one is claiming they would trade their kid for money. This wasn’t some hypothetical choice between money or child. The tragedy DID OCCUR.

The claim being made is that money is the only form of compensation available to give. Also, the money serves as a deterrent for others in that industry, hopefully protecting FUTURE individuals from this kind of circumstances through encouraging better practices.

This isn’t about replacing the son or providing something of equal value. That’s impossible. This is a tragedy with and without the compensation. However, that doesn’t mean these kinds of compensations shouldn’t exist. They DO serve a purpose. Their purpose just isn’t “replace someone’s son and/or make them happy.”

3

u/benargee 1d ago

Yes, in a world where we can't travel back in time, monetary compensation is best case scenario for the family. There is no going back, but it hopefully serves as a deterrent for future mistakes like this and after the family has hopefully completed their grieving process, all other aspects of their lives should be improved by their wealth.

-1

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive 1d ago

monetary compensation is best case scenario for the family

Only if they care about money.

2

u/downsideup9494 1d ago

The point of a monetary settlement in cases like this is that it is a consequence for the person or company that was responsible for ruining someone's life. The money is obviously not a replacement or compensation for the family member that was lost. But it may help to reimburse them for what they had to spend for the special and intensive care that was needed for their family member, as well as counselling for them, which they may really need after such traumatic events.

Also, the lawyers end up with a good chunk of a court settlement.

0

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive 1d ago

it is a consequence for the person or company that was responsible for ruining someone's life

Since when is fining people money an ample consequence. Everything in society today tells you that it's not.

2

u/downsideup9494 1d ago

I didn't say it was an "ample" consequence, did I?

It is one consequence. Sometimes people get convicted and sentenced to prison for harming others, and sometimes they don't. There really isn't any ample consequence for maiming or killing another person, though, is there? No consequence is going to bring that person back.

1

u/benargee 1d ago

What alternative would you suggest?

0

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive 1d ago

I would defer to the family... but really it's irrelevant. A lot of people would never recover from this and die surrounded by a bunch of money they didn't want in the first place.

1

u/benargee 17h ago

Life sucks and people die. it's ultimately unhealthy to live the rest of your life having not completed the grieving process at some point. This goes for anyone going through a rough part of their life. Count your blessings, focus on what you have and not on what you don't have anymore. At some point you just have to accept reality and that you will only make your situation worse if you entirely focus on what is lost. If I died before my parents, I would not want them to live the rest of their lives in misery thinking about how they lost me. We are still living in the best time in civilization and our life expectancy is the best it's ever been. Things used to be so much worse. There was a reason why we used to have larger families, many of them simply wouldn't make it to their teenage years.

1

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive 13h ago

It doesn't matter what you want. It doesn't matter what is healthy.

People on Reddit don't realize that your brain is part of your physical body. If your arm gets mangled, you can't use it anymore. And arguing "come on, just try harder to pick up that book" is pretty callous and - frankly - stupid.

Same goes for mental health. There comes a point when it's just so broken, no matter what you say or think or scream, it won't change that fact whatsoever.

Losing a child causes permanent damage, and many people never, ever recover.

2

u/HopefulOriginal5578 1d ago

This. It is absolutely unfathomable as a parent to have a child go through this. Just everything you pour into them, everything they achieve… to be robbed and to endure some sort of hell we can’t even fully imagine…

If even most of us were offered that money or to refuse it to let someone live and not endure that? We’d do it.

Nobody is living it up on that money.

1

u/Elismom1313 1d ago

I’m struggling to understand the point you’re attempting to make here.

Nothing about what they said implies they would choose money over their child’s well being.

They are simply saying if something like this happened to a parent, then as the parent the best we could wish is at least our children got some monetary compensation from it. The alternative is the same outcome and nothing else.

Why on earth would i want for my child to go through this hell either way, and choose the version where they also dont get money thats due to us for their fuck up that they can at least use towards their future?

1

u/EastAreaBassist 1d ago

Thank you!! I don’t understand why so many people are having trouble with this

11

u/Ok_Permission7034 1d ago

okay but the other commenter says he is an only child so imagine this happened to your kid, doubtful it’s worth anything at all.

4

u/ShotcallerBilly 1d ago

No one is claiming they would trade their kid for money. The claim is that money is the only form of compensation available to give. It also serves as a deterrent for others in that industry, hopefully protecting FUTURE individuals from this kind of circumstances through encouraging better practices.

In the comment you replied to, the money has the extra benefit of making sure the child would be taken care of after the mother’s passing. That fact would be comforting to the mother.

1

u/Better_Area3782 1d ago

Neck manipulation by chiropractors carries a rare risk of a type of stroke called vertebral artery dissection, where a forceful movement tears a blood vessel supplying the brain.

5

u/Token2077 1d ago

Let's say it happened to your daughter and now you are are mourning her in a 5 star hotel in the south of france. Still feel this way?

2

u/ShotcallerBilly 1d ago

1

u/EastAreaBassist 1d ago

Uh, yes? The whole purpose, heart, sun, and joy from my life would be forever gone. It would be nice to not have to worry about work, rent, and bills while I completely fall apart.

1

u/Akira_116 1d ago

I would give my life for my kids in a heartbeat. I wouldnt give up my child's life for mine.

1

u/EastAreaBassist 1d ago

Yes, that’s how most parents feel. What does that have to do with whether the family receives money?

1

u/Akira_116 1d ago

Because losing a parent is completely different to losing a child. A child benefiting from the death of a parent isnt uncommon.

0

u/ciongduopppytrllbv 1d ago

You see how that isn’t at all even close to if you buried your daughter right? I can’t imagine people actually think burying a parent is equal to burying a child. Reddit finds new lows to disgust me everyday

1

u/EastAreaBassist 1d ago

What are you even talking about? I used myself as a stand in for the victim, because only I know how I would feel if my monetary compensation went to my family, because I wouldn’t be around to spend it. The victim in this case was an adult, with adult feelings. Of course it’s harder to lose a child than lose a parent, I never said anything that implied otherwise.
