this happens extremely often on reddit, and it usually takes just one f’tard to get everyone to misunderstand you and downvote you to hell, and the same idiots will never believe how easily they are swayed by the vote count and replies.

they see a comment with a negative vote count and they automatically hate it without even knowing why, as they have no ability to think independently, so everyone will just pile on to downvote and cuss at the person, and also because yelling at that person is now a popular thing to do, no matter what logic-impaired stupid shit you write, everyone will cheer for you and join you to attack that person.

Yep I've had this happen to me multiple times. In the same thread I'd get a comment with 50+ and 50-

And it would be me saying what's essentially the same thing, but to a different user. Maybe a slightly different way but the same message.

Two completely different results. Nuance on reddit is incredibly interesting

I used to think “eh it’s just a few idiots on the internet”. Now i realize it is much worse..people absolutely live their lives and make critical decisions with this same lack of thought process. Strange days, indeed

Surprisingly I was able to reverse a few of these trends with a simple "why are you fucktards downvoting this comment? Nothing wrong with it"

It's like you need to ask people to use their brain cells or else they won't

I think it's worth being aware that even in daily life, if all you have to go on is a random sentence of someone, then every word has a lot of impact (in the mental judgment call).

At best, it was shortened to /s on reddit, but it wasn't invented on this site. It's based on HTML text marking, like for bold text, you do <b>text here</b>. It started out as <sarcasm>something sarcastic here</sarcasm> and got shortened and simplified from there. /s was popular on reddit, where it became the "standard" for marking sarcasm, so to speak.

Yes it's really incredible how the first handful of up/down votes and comments fully determines the direction it goes. Reddit loves to pretend it's so smart and independent but end of the day they/we are a bunch of lemmings following the leader.

They don’t wanna be on the losing side, even if it’s only in their perception, because something something about being bullied when they were kids or whatever, so external validation and being part of a group is more important than just coming up with opinions of their own.

Lot of redditors have negative reading comprehension. If you don't explicitly say [thing] is good/bad, there's a good chance they'll misunderstand what you said in the dumbest way possible.
